“Good as part of a package deal”
Efficiently close to the film festival event I was attending (walking distance), I got this as part of an airfare-and-hotel Expedia fare. A very nice two floor motel, walking-distance close to a 24-hour grocery store, local McD's and Wendys and quaint shopping district, as well as good local public transportation (bus to downtown, rail to downtown and from/to Portland Airport). My room had a microwave and small 'fridge for provisions, and a TV with "limited" cable (HBO); if it had pay-per-view I couldn't get it to work. The motel facilities include a pool, though being October it was a bit too cold to try; there are also snack and soda-bottle vending machine. The front desk is open and manned 24-hours, so my Thursday 11pm check-in was no problem, nor was my Monday morning 4am checkout (the nearby rail getting me to the airport well in time for my early morning flight home). Those manning the desk when one need to ask directions (or just clarifying questions) were always helpful and informative. If the annual film festival I attended is held at the same location next year, I will most likely obtain the same package fare and choose again to stay at the Banfield Motel.
“Good Basic Accommodation”
For the price, this is a clean, comfortable basic motel, located in the interesting Hollywood neighborhood of Portland - five to ten minutes by I-84 freeway from downtown, depending on traffic; fifteen to twenty minutes from the airport going the other way. It is right astride the freeway entrance and a few blocks' walk from the MAX light rail station. Walking distance from a variety of inexpensive to moderately priced restaurants.
“very clean”
No coffee pot in room but the cleanest I have seen in a long time. 2 miles from everything.
“Not too bad at all”
We weren't hanging around our hotel much so we just wanted a cheap place to lay our heads and this was great. Reasonably clean with friendly service.
“Good hotel”
Good place to stay. Very clean.
“Good place for overnight stays”
A good place to stay for sleeping and being out during the day. Restaurants and shopping very close. Transportation - buses and train - very close and easy to use. Recreation facilities near by as well.
“Can't beat the price”
My boyfriend and I stayed here while vacationing. Since we were trying to keep the hotels as cheap as possible, we settled on the Banfield after reading other customer reviews. The Banfield was remodeling the exterior during our stay, and the interiors of the rooms had been recently remodeled. New TV, fridge, microwave, and the king size bed was comfy. Bathroom and vanity wasn't that huge but was clean enough and manageable. There were 2 downsides of the Banfield. First was the fact that the pool seemed to be in a state of neglect. Granted it was shortly after Labor Day but it seemed the pool hadn't been attended to or cleaned in a month. It was not very appealing to look at and if the pool was no longer going to be in use for the rest of that season, drain it, instead of leaving it festering. Also I believe we had a problem w/ one of the other guests while there. Granted w/ the cheapness of price, it's going to affect the types of people staying in the hotel as well. One of the guests tried chasing us down to talk, of whom we did not know nor could we attest to his mental soundness and then later than night or the following, it seemed maybe a drunk patron was trying to check into our room. They never got in but we were confused about their persistent knocking and banging around. I suppose you could say it just made the trip more adventursome or memorable:-)
“Not bad”
If you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Portland that has atleast a roof, a clean bed, and a clean bathroom then Banfield is a good choice. There's plenty of restuarants within walking distance, and believe me it's easier to walk around the city then the drive. The manager was friendly and the cleaning staff did a good job with the room. I didn't really see the condition of the pool because it was covered up, it's always raining in Portland anyways, who actually goes swimming there?
“pleasantly surprised”
Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean, spacious, and pleasant. We enjoyed the firm matresses, the microwave and refrigerator. We discovered into the stay free coffee in the lobby although a Starbucks is very near, and daily newspapers are complimentary. A bus leaves every 15 minutes to downtown. We were very pleased.
“Not as noisy as other reviews have suggested”
For a place to sleep for a night, this was a good hotel for the price. Other reviews have said it was noisy, but we didn't have any issues with it. It looks as though they've replaced the windows and air conditioning units relatively recently. We'd stay there again if we were planning something in that part of town.
