"Close to PNC Park & Heinz Field."
Hotel has no parking lot. Valet was full. Had to use a parking garage that cost 25$ for events that was NOT comp'ed by the hotel. No free breakfast (you could buy the buffet for $18 a person)

"Excellent location in Pittsburg"
Right next to Consol Center and 5 min walk to Duquesne University. Very comfortable and helpful staff. Food was good too. One thing though, the internet doesn't work well with tablet's to connect, i.e. Kindle Fire or iPad, this is from the front desk. Phones connected, just not tablets.

"Beautiful elegance from a bygone era!"
Our second stay... love it! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Love having the full service Starbucks right off of the lobby. Great bagel restaurant accessible through the back door. The work out room is the best I have ever seen at a hotel... equipment, free weights, mirrors, even a ballet bar!

"Interesting place to stay"
Make sure you print out your confirmation. When we arrived, the desk clerk spoke very broken English and wanted to charge me more than what the confirmation said. When I showed him the confirmation, he gave me the agreed upon price. My only other true problem with the room was the mini fridge which was musty and gave me a sinus issue. Note to self, bring a cooler or eat out at the plentiful local restaurants.

"Nice location but poor housekeeoing"
Excellent location room was nice and clean. However 3 times in the first 24 hours we were at the hotel, housekeeping entered our room without knocking. I stay at hotels a lot and I have never had this happen even once before. We had 4 people in our room, but only had towels for 3, I asked for a fourth set which was sent up immediately. However, when the room was cleaned, only 3 sets of towels were left in the room. Also the room was not cleaned until after 4:30 PM. Additionally, the air conditioner, no matter what it was set to was either off, or freezing. I slept in PJs, a sweater and socks in July. I wish I had a better expierience becasue the location was perfect for our needs.

"Good if you need more room, bathroom not so great"
Shadyside Inn is a nice place to stay if you need something more like an apartment than a hotel room. This is good for extended stays or if, like me, you need a place only for a short while but want to have somewhere with a living room, separate bedroom, and little kitchenette. Nice hardwood floors, comfortable furniture and bed, free wifi and local phone calls, and it's a nice quiet place in a residential district. That said, there are some downsides. Basically, these are old apartment buildings converted into hotel suites; and there's a certain "old apartment building" feel to it (at least in the property I stayed in -- they have several, so YMMV). The worst part of this was the bathroom: think, tiny cramped shower-over-bath with old pink ceramic tile on the wall and a plastic shower curtain; not a very luxurious experience. Similarly, the metal closet doors painted white were less than appealing, and the little kitchenette, while functional, left something to be desired. One other note -- the front desk was in a wholly separate location from the building where my suite was located, which is fine, but it would have been good to know this BEFORE I lugged my suitcase up the steps and into the building for no purpose whatsoever. Still, a good place to say if you need more than a standard hotel room and want to feel more like you're kind of at home, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'd recommend it, so long as you can tolerate a lousy bathroom.
