“Lovely hotel with lots to do”
A perfect hotel to choose in Scotland as there's lots to do if it rains - spa, swimming pool, snooker etc and when it's dry it's a great area for beautiful scenery. There's also pitch and putt and a putting green not to mention the beautiful gardens. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food's good.
“Great Pitlochry Value in Classical Style”
For those looking for a classical Pitlochry Scottish Spa Hotel - this is it. Great value and superb service at this very grand almost castle like hotel.
“Pleasantly suprised at how good it was”
Having read on another website some of the tales of woe, we didn't know what to expect. But from entering the hotel at reception to booking out, we were very pleased by the friendliness and helpfullness of all staff we met. Reception changed our room from one that required stairs (need a stick to walk) to one on the first floor. Bar staff were polite and attentive. Bar meals were excellent, served quickly and arrived hot. Breakfast had good choice of traditional cooked items and were kept freshley topped up, so the queue was kept to a minimum. Prior to booking out, the Museum was opened early so we could look around it before leaving. A walk around the beautiful gardens helped breakfast go down a treat. Didnt use the spa facilities, so can't comment, but wished we had had more time to do so!
“Clean room and friendly staff”
This was a return visit to the Atholl Palace. Staff were friendly and attentive. Room was clean and tidy with a beautiful view down the valley. Pool area and changing rooms were clean and tidy. Food was OK but slightly overpriced for what it was. Only complaint was the bag pipe player in the room next door at 0830 but thats not the Hotels fault!
“A pleasant stay”
I have 2 issues. A friend called the hotel and requested a bottle of wine be at at our table for dinner but it didn't arrive. the charge was refunded to her card and a voucher has been promised but it was disappointing for her that we didn't receive the gift. Secondly at breakfast the table cloth had jam stains on it from the previous occupant and the waiter swept the crumbs onto the chair. However the room was good, the staff were good and it was a good stay. If the incidents above hadn't happened it could have been great.
“Great for Taking the Waters but little else!”
This hotel was somewhat overpriced for what it offered. The twin rooms were grim and offered little in the way of comfort or amenities for the price. That said, the hotel does offer a spa with mineral pools, steam and sauna all in great condition and very nice. Trying to have a massage in what is their 'high season' was impossible, as they only have one, yes ONE massage therapist in the entire very large hotel. So, while most of the treatment rooms were empty, there was no possibility of having a massage in the 2 days I was there. So much for a 'Spa Experience'.
“Lovely setting - let down by very poor food”
Food was appalling, having arrived late from england, me and 3 others decided to eat in the hotel for dinner. We all decided on the 4 course dinner in various forms. The starters were not warm, the soup had skin on it. The mushroom main which came with cold egg fried rice had no taste and again it was obvious that it had been sitting under a hot plate. Desserts again very poor with budget ingredients, not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was terrible as well, if it wasn't for the lovely setting and views I would have checked out early. The fact that all the food at every sitting was poor shows that this wasn't a one off - Won't be staying there again because of this.
“Not impressed. Does not live up to first appearance”
Double room was adequate but television reception very poor. Light above mirror in bathroom not working and was not fixed despite hotel being advised. First bedroom to which we were allocated was rejected as being small and dingy and smelling of tobacco smoke despite hotel being non smoking. Our local pub has a wider more varied menu than available for dinner in the hotel. Staff did not appear happy
