“Great stay at The Royal.”
Booked this Hotel on-line.Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for us. Being a smoker friendly hotel, might put some people off but there is no smoking in the public areas. This was our first time back in Penang after 17 years and this hotel helped to make our week long stay, a wonderful one. Also the price was unbelievable for the quality and service. You want a great Hotel in the centre of Penang? Then the Royal is for you.
“Very impressed”
Excellent
“Hotel Royal”
Location is very good, staff is friendly, breakfast was great in the morning. House keeping was punctually clean the room everyday.
“met expectations”
Generally speaking a good hotel. We were in an executive suite and enjoyed the extra room it provided. Had a few issues with cleaning but staff were quick to respond to and rectify the situation,.
“Good hotel, 2 km walk to Georgetown heritage areas”
Former splendour as Sheraton now a little shabby, but still very good value for money. Clean, roomy and comfortable rooms, with good breakfast and helpful staff. Only gripe we had was that it was a couple of kms walk to the heritage areas of Georgetown, through pedestrian-unfriendly streets. Still, that is part of the charm of SE Asia, and it was always an interesting, though hot, walk. Pool clean and quiet.
“Comfortable, clean and great service. Thumbs up”
Staying at the Royal Penang was a very pleasant experience for us. The staff we found was very gracious and eager to help - they took guest requests quiet seriously and tried their best to cater to it. The rooms were spacious and clean and with fabulous sea views. The free shuttle that the hotel provided to Gurney plaza is great but I think it would be better if they could provide shuttle service to Komtar since most of the Raid buses originate there. The hotel is about 20 mins walk away from Komtar, which can be inconvenient at times - a shuttle every 1-2 hours would be a good idea. The breakfast spread was quite satisfactory. We reached the hotel atleast 1.5 hrs before the check in time, but the reception checked us in early without a single hassle - there were no questions or raised eyebrows and I really appreciated that. All in all our stay at Royal was memorable and pleasant. I will definitely recommend it.
“Wish I had stayed longer.”
I only stayed one night and wanted to see something of the area before I moved on in what was a train trip around the world. The front desk clerk was extremely helpful in arranging a night tour around the area and a 3-hour tour in the morning. Without him I would only have seen the bit from the ferry to the hotel and back. As soon as I arrived I ate a late lunch in the restaurant and the next day ate breakfast and the buffet lunch. All meals were very good with a wide selection on the menu. My room had an excellent view of the waterfront. Internet connections were good. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant stay in Penang.
“Tres en dessous des standards occidentaux de Sheraton, mais c'est propre et relativement net”
Sans charme particulier, un peu defrechi, mais cela semble etre une bonne adresse pour Penang en terme de rapport prestation/prix
“bad sheraton standard”
the hotel needs maintenance in the rooms, as the rugs in the floors look old and raggy, the bathrooms as well, so if you want more quality, search elsewhere.
“Hotel Ok but has some Issues”
Hotel Royal Penang is rated as a Four Star. We stayed there for 7 nights at the end of September 2011. Reality is Hotel Royal Penang is more like a 3 star. The Hotel requires a major refurbishment. It has become somewhat outdated. The Room we stayed in was clean, but carpets and the bathroom need to be replaced/renovated. Small things like the in room Tv for example still were the old tube Tv instead of LCD. TV Reception is really bad. The Bar fridge is not stocked and remains empty and requires you to ring room service if you want anything from their bar fridge menu. Internet was hardly broadband- more like dialup it was that slow. Breakfast is good for the first day or so but lacks variety and soon becomes the dreaded "oh no same food as yesterday" feeling. A country that prides itself on tropical fruits had only two fruits (Watermelon and Honey dew melon) for choice. There is hardly a concierge. No-one to advice us what do in Penang nor a Tours advisor/counter. These issues can be rectified easily to provide the customer a much better experience. The overall upper Management (Hotel Royal Group) of the Hotel is at fault here not so much the staff. Staff need to be trained in certain aspects and a refurbishment needs to be done on the overall hotel. At a 4 star level one should expect to at least get someone to open the car door once the car rocks up to the hotel. Value for money wise it- was pretty good. Its a good hotel in need of Refurbishment.
