“The Top Hotel in Georgetown, Penang, Mlaysia”
Stayed for 3 nights in early February 2012. Great Colonial Hotel, perfect location in the Heritage area of Georgetown and very good food. The staff and chefs are great.
“A step back to Colonial Days”
The E&O, (as it is known widely), is a step back to the British Colonial Days of Malaysia and offers wonderful standards of food and comfort. The staff are attentive and friendly without being overbearing. It's located on the sea front and a short walk to Old Penang Street in Georgetown where there are a lot of bars and restaurants. The town center is near and everything is within walking distance. The rooms are suites, with a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom with his and her sinks. They have managed to retain the feel of the hotel while providing modern comforts such a great shower, huge bath and WiFi. Usually when traveling, I do not spend much time at the hotel, but this time, it was hard to drag me away from the pool. The E&O is probably not a hotel for young children, as there is not a lot for them to do at the hotel. For older guests, this is an advantage, plus the price possibly stops a lot of families with young children staying there. The result is that it is wonderfully quiet, with no noisy kids in the pool or in the public areas. We did not eat there except for breakfast, which was very good. Sitting outside by the sea for breakfast was a real treat. A friend who recommended the hotel told me the Afternoon Tea was terrific although we did not get a chance to try it, but will next time. We tried the pool side, outdoor massage - quite excellent. The E&O may not be for everyone, but if you feel like pampering yourself, you can't go wrong.
“Calm collected atmosphere with grand rooms and an ageless sense reflective of Raffles before upgrade”
All well with calm efficient service and wonderful ambience
“I will definitely go back :)”
My wife and I went to the Eastern and Oriental Hotel for our honeymoon. It was great! The staff were excellent; always kind, friendly and did their job well. The suite was really nice...high ceilings and great views. The food in the hotel was good, and the coffee was great :) We plan to return for an anniversary in a couple of years.
“Great hotel”
Excellent hotel, great location for Georgetown, rooms were stunning, clean, large with 3 seperate areas bathroom, bedroom and lounge with superb ocean views.Good breakfast, staff friendly could not have been more helpful.
“A historic experience - and a classy hotel”
You enter the hotel, and a breeze of Glenn Miller floats through the elegant hall, putting you right into the time when this must have been the most elegant place in Malaysia. The whole hotel has been painstakingly renovated and presents itself in its original splendour. The rooms are actually suites, large and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom. The service is excellent and personal, the staff very helpful. Sumptuous breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the sea, all little photo opportunities in itself. Overall, a great experience, not to be missed.
“Wonderful hotel!”
A great little hotel that does not blow the budget. Warm and friendly staff and wonderful service. Would not hesitate in returning!
“Extreme Relaxation”
The Olde Worlde charm of this hotel starts with the pith-helmeted doorman, followed by a strawberry mocktail while waiting for the check-in documentation to be completed. Linen was changed daily, while towels were refreshed during the day if they had been utilised. Fresh fruit and a complimentary local newspaper (English) were also provided on a daily basis. A 24 hour butler service is just a bell switch away. The pool is not elaborate, but it was comfortable, with iced water readily provided by the pool attendants, and complimentary fruit juice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Each and every hotel employee I encountered was polite and accommodating, without giving the appearance of sub-servient. The breakfast was elaborate with a mix of local and western style fare (with the exception of course of bacon) available. Activities offerred included complimentary yoga, a cooking class (cost involved, but worthwhile), fantastic massages by the pool (cost involved). The cooking class and the massages were good value for money. The only negative aspects from my perspective were that the beds were quite hard, even with a topper, and the bar prices were a little steeper than I would have thought, even for a hotel of this calibre. I stayed in suite 235, and would try not to stay in that particular room again, due to the proximity of the hotel air conditioning unit, which was a little noisy over night. All in all a great hotel that I would thoroughly recommend.
“Very nice stay”
Hotel was very impressive. The bed was as hard as a rock but did not take away from the charm. No real business center to speak of so leave the business as home. Lunch around the pool was cool!
“As expected”
Great hotel. Had a room facing the sea. View was nothing to shout about. Great service. Nice location to visit Georgetown.
