“soso”
recepitionist are very nice. renovated room is O.K. but duty room...dust,fur, I think cleaner is so bad.
“Not impressed”
Maybe because when I arrived the elevator was broken, and because I didn't want a room with a window right into the street level I had to walk up to the 4th floor, and there was no hotel person to help. Also the wi-fi didn't work upstairs... The people at the reception desk were corteous and the location is good.
“Large and clean room and bathroom”
Room was freshly painted and extremely clean. Good size bathroom. The pillows could use replacing but other than that a very pleasant stay. Short walk to the metro. A little far out from the city centre.
“Dirty room, bugs, a LOT of noise from other rooms...”
It is near the Oberkampf metro station - so what? Take a look at Paris' metro map and you will see it's not really difficult to be near a metro station. I do like that neighborhood. It has many restaurants and places to have some beer, plus a nice Bistrô just a few steps away. But let’s talk about the accommodations. I stayed in room 303. It has one window with no view to the street, just to a vault between this and the other building. The room smelled REALY bad. Every time I went back from the street I regretted staying there – and that’s because I was alone and I really don’t care about luxury at all. The bathroom was very small (shower had about 1 square meter in space) and I saw bugs on it’s floor more than once. The towels were a tragedy – some of them had roles on it and it looks like they are from the 1980s. No safe in room. I did not rely on the locker for keeping my clothes because it smelled bad and I did not want any bugs on my pockets. There is no sound isolation whatsoever - you can hear anything happening on the other rooms. When my neighbor went to his shower I could no longer sleep. It sounded like I had a waterfall 5 feet away from me. I don’t think this can even be called a budget hotel – I’ve stayed in Paris for less than that before in much better conditions. The staff is adorable, but that’s it. I did not try the breakfast there. Taxi from CDG to the hotel was 45 euros at 1:00am.
“Dirty”
Extremely dirty bathroom, up to mushrooms on the bathtube and mirrow. Towels smelled a bit. Broken elevator for the whole staying (5 days). Bad quality of the Internet. Neighborhood looked spooky, however lots of cafes and restaurants at the same time. The only thing i could mention positive was the receptionist who helped translating some papers from French to English and back. If those things would get corrected it would quite cute hotel in general
“Great budget hotel in great location”
Budget hotels in Paris are a hit-or-miss, and I'm happy to say this was a great hit for us. The room faced a side street with almost no noise; the A/C was silent (a recurring problem in budget hotels), and overall the room was in pretty good shape. We did not take breakfast there, as 2 of the 4 days we stood there there were farmer's markets in front (Tuesday) or a couple of blocks south towards Bastille (Sunday) with fantastic and incredibly cheap food. One piece of advice: if you arrive by metro the closest station is Oberkampf; this is a small station with no lift or electric stairs and no ticket office. If you have heavy luggage I suggest going down at Republique and walking on Richard Lenoir.
“We will stay here on our next visit”
My husband and I loved Hotel Saint Louis Bastille! The rooms are nicely decorated and very functional with all the amenities. We stayed for a week and the room was cleaned every day. There are a number of Metro stations within a five minute walk with only a ten minute ride to Le Louvre. There are a large number of cafes and boulangeries within a one block radius and even a food market set up twice while we were there. The food was always wonderful! It is a downtown atmosphere with night sounds included, the sounds of Paris.
“Look Elsewhere!!”
I would not stay here again, period. Pros - The hotel is only a block or so from the metro. -The room was cute and relatively clean. -The older man at the front desk at the night was friendly and helpful. Cons: - Check-in is at 12 but our room was not ready until 2 p.m. No apologies from the front desk. Not nice considering we had spent nearly 24 hours in travel. -The neighborhood can get very sketchy. There were a lot of drunk homeless people wandering around. -We had hot water for only 1 day out of the 8 days during our stay. -The elevator was broken for most of the trip. What hassel as it was nearly 85F during our stay, there is no air-conditioning in the common areas, and our room was on the 4th floor (steep winding stairs, mind you). -The hotel airport shuttle costs 60 Euro each way. -The free wifi is only available on floors 1-3. -One woman at the front desk in the mornings was a bit snarky. She booked a shuttle for me (went privte for departure) but she booked it improperly. This would have left me only 1 1/2 hours to get to the airport (1 hour away) for an international flight. So I had to rebook at the last minute. - The walls are paper thin. You can hear every movement from other guests. -The windows don't provide any real barrier to outside noise. -The beds were uncomfortable and creak with every toss and turn. -Every t.v. channel is in French. -The walls are half-way painted and covered in spackle. The carpets are old and dingy. -No phone, iron,or safe in rooms.
“Great Experience!”
I had an entirely different experience than the other reviewer. I found the hotel to be charming, the front desk to be helpful and informative, and the cleaning staff did a great job with my rooms. It was situated very close to a metro station and there were a lot of great bakeries close to the hotel. The shower head broke in one of my rooms and they replaced it the same day, in the other room the toilet broke and they replaced it within the hour. The staff gave great recommendations for dinner and when we told one of the places that the hotel sent us over they gave us free drinks! The hotel even booked our tickets for the Eiffel tower saving us over 2 hours waiting in line! I would definitely stay at this Hotel again if I am traveling in Paris.
“We will never stay at this hotel again and do not recommend it to others.”
Despite the 3 star rating, this is not a 3 star hotel. My husband, I and or 11 year old stayed here for 11 days. During our stay, the hot water heater broke down 3 days. On the 4th day, we actualy arged with the front desk clerk because she wold not believe that we did not have hot water in our room. The maid service was terrible and I continually found myself cleaning the room myself.
