“Terrible Experience”
Terrible room, no where to put clothes. Dangerous neighborhood
“Hotel Merryl”
Solid, no frills hotel in a multicultural Paris neighborhood where my brother and his family live.
“Scary neighborhood”
I was there for 5 nights. The phone in my room was broken. They kept promissing to fix it. It never got fixed, finally on my last night there the new preson at the front desk came up with a briliant idea to move me to another room. None the less I was not able to communicate with my family. Hotel is conveniently situated to the metro, but it's a "scary" neighborhood. At night you could not have the window open cause kids were throwing rocks into the room from the balcony in the building accross. When I notified the front desk nothing was done about it. The breakfast is very basic, after 5 days it gets pretty mundane. I'm sure that there are better places in Paris to stay at given the fact that they have 1500 hotels in the city.
“Not so Bueno”
The hotel was located close to the Gare du Nord Train station, which is not in a great neighborhood. Also there was no air conditioning and the doorways and halls were extremely tiny. Wouldn't stay here again because it was too far away from what you go to Paris to see.
“Terrible neigbourhood and service.”
I have always travelled on a budget and know what to expect from cheap hotels. This hotel, however is not worth the money you are asked to pay. the rooms themselves are pretty good but the location and service are horrible. When i chose this hotel i though the area should be ok since it is not too far from sacre coeur, but it seemed to me one of the worst districts in all of Paris. Walking to our hotel at night i did not feel safe. To anyone thinking of this hotel, pay a bit more to stay near the centre. Now the service. Breakfast was pretty bad but that was to be expected (basically bread butter and jam). The staff were really rude. THe receptionist said they didn't have maps when 5 minutes later we found a map on the reception desk (bad english? i don't know). At breakfast if you didn't come early there were no tables and nobdy would clean them. you pretty much had to clean it up yourself and bring them the dirty stuff and garbage. If you came early in the morning the serving lady would wash the dishes as loudly as she possibly can non-stop. I realize these are minor complaints but a general impression of this hotel is very unpleasant and location is just plane unsafe. i would not remcomend this hotel to anyone.
“Just Fine”
Clean & quiet hotel. Small rooms, but who hangs out in their hotel room when you're in Paris?! Only problem I had was trying to make phone calls from my room. Great location by metro stop.
“Thunbs Up”
The condition of the Hotel itself was to be expected for the location and star rating. My room was clean with my washroom. Breakfast each morning was provided by how can I say, spirited french women who set the rules a bit different each day! Non non, only one croissant, while another said eat / enjoy as much as you like! ...cafe, croissant, baguette with butter... what more could you ask for while in France but to eat as the French do! The Hotel had an elevator which was a great feature. The only bad thing about this hotel was the noise in the hallway... I could hear doors opening and closing and people walking up the stairs. Other than the noise... Paris is for walking and exploring and by the time you get back to the Hotel you will be too tired to notice anyway!
“cheap place to stay, but wouldn't reccomend it to anyone”
Bad area in town, not very clean, small, and loud.
“cost effective bed for the night”
This hotel is no frills however has everything you need. The rooms were indeed clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful (getting taxis, etc.) and the breakfast was decent. I don't mean anything bad by decent. Coffee, pastries. Got the job done. :-) The beds in my room were 3 twins. I was traveling solo, just for fun and didn't need much so no worries. Worked fine for me, on this trip any way. The hotel is located north Paris for sure.
“under reno”
The hotel was adequate. It was the same price as a hostel, but with a private bathroom. The hotel was under renovation (May 15th 2009) so it will soon be in better shape. The hotel staff is multilingual and incredibly helpful... They were willing to give us advice regarding hotspots and places to avoid in the neighborhood.
