“Great location/DIRTY room”

The Madison Hotel has a perfect location. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful with the exception of one gentleman on the front desk. The room was small as are most European rooms.Bedding was lovely.... crisp and white .However the carpet was very dirty with footprints evident. Dirt happens ,but clearly the housekeeping staff were not paying attention to details if a guest was allowed to check in with the room in such bad shape. Also the room had a rather foul smell. When I brought it to the attention of the front desk on duty he was rather condescending and could have cared less. Such a shame really because the rest of the staff were so sweet and accommodating.

“Great room but on the small side...”

As I sit in a different 4 star hotel, I think back that Le Madison was a pretty great hotel. I'd call it "the little hotel that could..." Super clean, very modern, comfy bed (woke up with no backaches), and quite for its busy St Germain location, but the room was very small (like other Euro hotels you might visit). I was traveling on business, so this room was perfect for me. Had it been me and my husband, it would've been a little tight (trust me, I've been in smaller hotel rooms though). High end perks (tv, phones, bose stereo system, sonia rykiel pillows), very comfortable bed, I would assume this hotel had been recently remodeled. Free wifi is always a plus, the breakfast looked decent enough. Definitely VERY clean. Negatives -- no alarm clock (its always like that these days), and no proper shower curtain or door (the Brits do this too, drives me nuts). Everything else was great. I plan to stay here again (you can't beat this location for shopping) and I'd recommend it to colleagues.

“Nice hotel, great location,”

The hotel is located in a great location. Close to restaurants, bars, etc. Metro station is just yards away. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was small but very clean. The complimentary WI FI was reliable and fast. I definitely recommend this hotel.

“Great Hotel, Perfect Location”

You can't beat the location of Le Madison. It's perfect the way it's slightly tucked away from the main street because of the cul-de-sac. The metro is a stones throw away and it's a quick walk across Pont du Arts to the Louvre. The hotel and rooms are super clean, beds are comfy and the staff is friendly. The only thing I'd let anyone know is that the room is a little small (normal Europe), so if you have large luggage/extra luggage that doesn't fit in the closet (which is good sized), you might have to choose a side of the bed you don't want to walk on. St Germain is my favorite area in Paris, Close to the best shopping, great cafes and restaurants as well as many of the sites of Paris but without being in an overwhelmingly touristy area.

“Excellent small hotle”

This was a beautiful small hotel in a Cartier very animated. If you want to be in a chic lodging, surrounded by restaurants and caves, this is the hotel for you. The staff are wonderful. My only negative was that my beautiful room was small. However, it was fine for one person. It would have been a squeeze for two persons.

Area recommendations
If you're coming to Paris to eat and feel the wonderful ambiance of the city, this is the hotel for you. However, having lived in Paris, in the past, for almost thirty years, I was familiar with all of that. I missed the convenience of a metro and busses that would take me to where I wanted to go on the right side of the river. Those were a few blocks away on the Bld Saint Germaine at the rue du Bac.

“Tight bathroom”

If you are assigned to a non-renovated room you can expect a very uncomfortable bathroom experience!!! For the rest the hotel is well located and the staff is eager to assist and help.

“That's the one I would stay next trip to Paris, and so as the next, next-next, next-next-next trips!”

the location is excellent! City bike rental station right in front of the front door, which you can rent a bike and drop it off any other stations in town. Also the metro subway station is right in front of the hotel. 10 minutes walk to Notre-Dame, or the Louvre. 3-5 more minutes walk from Notre-Dame get you to Pompidou. there is a market behind the hotel, also many shops in very short walking distance. The hotel is in very good shape. I didnt hear any street noise despite it is fronting a main street. Got to take advantage of the breakfast buffet downstairs. I started there almost every other day of my stay (8 days!). I love my bed!! Wifi is free of charge anywhere inside the hotel!! Friends warned me about water pressure and temperature in Paris hotels because of their ages, but I didn't have any of these problems with this hotel.

Area recommendations
Saint Germine is a very good and safe neighborhood. very easy to walk to shops and restaurants, or to the Seine River for evening walk. Metro subway station connects you to almost anywhere. if you travel light, you can take the RER train to and from CDG airport for about 10 euro! (which I did.) There are also highend brand name shops in short walking distance.
When to go
this hotel told me that from Nov to Feb (except the two weeks of Fashion show), and Mid-July to late August, are low-season, and you can get discount off the published rate. Paris is so beautiful that I can simply be happy to go there any day of the year.
Getting there
take advantage of the train, RER, and subway (Metro) system.
What to pack
pack light...you can buy anything there, some might be cheaper than in the US.
Must see
the Pompidou-Metz Centre which just opened in May 2010 is a must see. Most likely is not on your travel guide because its very new. Take the TGV fast train (which goes 300km/hour max) to Metz, and the museum is 2 minutes walk from the Metz train station. You wont regret.
Dining
If you like the Moule (Mussels), then you will need to go between September to April (the months that has 'r'). Seafood is excellent as well. the restaurant we went didnt cheat like those in US. Every single piece on the seafood tower was great.

“Very Helpful Staff”

The staff was very helpful -- particuarly since we had delayed luggage. They were always willing to talk to the airline in French which made the discussion much easier. The hotel has recently been renovated. Everything was lovely and very clean.

“A Great Stay”

The Madison is an excellent choice for a Paris hotel. The location is exceptional and the rooms are nicely appointed. Within a few steps there are 2 metro lines, multiple ATMs and pharmacies, pastery and wine shops, and affordable bistros. The Notre Dame is a short walk away and St. Germaine des Pres (claimed as the oldest church in Paris) is directly across the street. There are also a variety of shopping opportunities from boutique and designer shops, discounts bargain hunting in the side streets to the renouned Bon Marche department and food stores. If you are interested in classical dining, Les Deux Maggot, Brasserie Lipp and Cafe de Flore are about one block away. This historic area also boasts of having the oldest restaurant in Paris (Le Procope) again, just a couple of streets away from the Madison. The Monoprix, a less expensive supermarket (groceries, toiletries, limited prepared foods and clothing) is also within a block. I always recommend this hotel for those who ask me about hotels in Paris. The staff at the front desk can be a bit frosty at times, but this is a few times that I go with the flow. I ignore the chill and enjoy the city.

Area recommendations
The 6 and 5 arrondisements. These are historic districts with a lot a variety. There are fewer tourist traps in these areas. These areas are also replete with a variety of shopping, affordable dining, art galleries and major sites. One can walk or take a short metro ride to the Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, St. Germaine des Pres church, Le Louvre, St Chapelle, Blvd St Michel, the Catacombs, the Sorbonne, the Panthenon, or the Musee d'Orsay. The Le Marai, although on the right bank, is an easy metro ride, or if you like walking, the promenade is not bad. There are plenty of patisseries and cafes. And, if you like Starbucks, they are sufficiently represented in these arrondisements.
Getting around
Get a map and walk. There are lots of side streets that may take you to your destination more efficiently. It is also a great way to learn more about the city. For example, take a shortcut to Notre Dame from Blvd St Germaine by way of Rue du Buci / Rue St Andre des Arts. If you are observant, you come notice the oldest restaurant in Paris, Le Procope along the way. And at the end of Rue St Andre des- voila, the Fountain of St Michele and Notre Dame situated on Ile de la Cite. You can also take the number 4 metro line to the largest flea markets in Paris. Just go in the direction of Porte de Clignancourt. Some great finds are antique clocks. Try the Dauphine market for vintage clothes.

“Way-overpriced in a great location”

The hotel room was so small we were sorry we did not refuse it and ask for another. The solitary window opened onto a large, filthy airshaft other travelers were using for smoking. The internet access was never available and the service indifferent. The Rue St.Germain de Pres is a magnificent place to explore Paris from but this hotel is not worth staying at.

Traveller's tip
Peres et Filles cafe & restaurant, 81 Rue de Seine, off St.Germain de Pres, truly great food.
