“Fantastic experience”
We stayedbat Le Citizen after reading an article about it in the NY Times. It is a small hotel with only about 12 rooms. It's on a lovely canal and off the beaten path near the Marais neighborhood. The rooms are very small but that is to be expected in most of Paris. The rooms are very clean and modern however with a very nice bathroom/shower. The best part of this hotel though is the very warm and friendly staff, especially Pierre who is the ever -present manager. He made us feel so welcome and we were immediately smitten by has endearing personality, charm, and sharp wit. If we needed directions somewhere, he pulled them up on the Internet for us and hand wrote his own specific instructions. Every morning he was there to serve breakfast in the small breakfast room and we would discuss our plans for the day with him. He made his own yogurt that was delicious, and there were nice homemade jams and pastrries. The coffee was great, and he would make eggs upon request. This was the ideal hotel for us since my husband and I, and the couple we traveled with had all been to Paris before. This is probably not the place for you if you want to be in the center of all the usual tourist sites. However, there is a Metro stop a couple of blocks away that can take you wherever you want to go. When we left the hotel, we were a bit sad saying goodbye to Pierre. We felt like we had made a new friend. Stay at Le Citizen if you want personalized, top-notch service at very reasonable rates.
“Small cool hotel in vibrant area.”
The area is well served by metro and loads of restaurants as it is an actual residential area, not touristy. The small room at the hotel is tiny even by paris standards.
“Great location, wonderful staff”
This is a wonderful, clean and very centrally-located small hotel in Paris. My husband and I stayed 3 nights and we have no complaints. The service was simply outstanding and there was so much to do nearby. In addition, getting to the sights in central Paris was easy. We even had a view of the Eiffel tower from our room!
“Lovely, gracious hotel.”
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Any request was granted with pleasure and their knowledge of Paris and the area was extensive. They gave wonderful recommendations for dining. The breakfast, included, was a lovely, full breakfast with homemade baked goods and fresh-squeezed orange juice as well as eggs made on the spot.
“Great small modern hotel in a lively neighbourhood”
A visitor to this hotel will experience a real working Paris neighbourhood. Expect a lively neighbourhood full of a variety of local cafes and restaurants. The staff were always courteous and helpful, even when I attempted to murder their language with my limited and clumsy French. The rooms were small, which is normal for Paris, but they were new, modern and well appointed and everything worked. Guests were supplied with an ipad to access all the hotel and local area information and anything from the Internet, this proved very helpful. Also to our surprise the tariff included mini bar and all local and international landline telephone calls. The hotel is close, within 5 minutes walk, to 2 metro stations so it was quick and cheap, to get to almost everywhere in the city. Overall really enjoyable and intimate. Highly recommended.
“Clean, comfortable and friendly”
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were warmly welcomed and given an ipad to use during our stay which had loads of readily accessible and useful info about stuff near the hotel such as restaurants and bars. The room was small but clean and comfortable and over looked the canal. The receptionist recommended quite a few restaurants including the nearby Hotel du Nord which he said wasn't gastronomique but was very good and generally well liked by previous guests. We loved it - great food, good service and a lively atmosphere with lots of locals. The hotel was well paced for the Gare De L'Est - about 10 minutes walk (and the same again to Gare du Nord). The area round the hotel is on the grubbier side of Paris but, mainly because of the canal, it has a trendy, lively feel with loads of young people just hanging out. The breakfast room was small but light and airy with big wall to wall windows looking directly onto the bustling road and canal outside. The breakfast itself was a fairly straightforward continetal style with fresh croissants and orange juice. We'd definitely stay here again.
“Not the usual touristy experience - in a good way!”
The staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Room was comfortable although there was a bit of street noise - we were on the second floor. The breakfast was great, so nice to have freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice, differently made up yogurts and eggs cooked to order. Lots of nice breads too. It was a nice touch to have little treats awaiting you in your room after a hard days sightseeing. Our only complaint there was only 1english channel ( CNN ) on tv. The iPad we were given had a few older films but not all complete. They should have a movie channel on the tv at least. Nice neighbourhood beside the canal, we really felt we were staying amid real Parisians - lots of little bars, bistros and local shops. Would stay here again and recommend it to friends.
“Perfect for one night when arriving by Eurostar”
Hotels around train stations tend to be hideous. Not this one. This hotel is about 15 mins walk from Gare Du Nord, but in a lovely suburban feeling location. Overlooking the canal, conveniently located by a few bars and restaurants (which the hotel will book for you). If you're just in Paris for night and arriving by Eurostar, then I would highly recommend this hotel. It's only fault is that the rooms are small, but then we didn't spend much time in our room
“Tiny Room with No Space”
This hotel only suits for a backpacker with limited luggage. 15m2 room was so small that you can't even fully open a suitcase. Due to limited space for two of us and the fact that it is located in quite noisy area, we have changed hotel.
