“Helped Enjoy Paris”
The hotel located within sight of the Gare de Lyon train station and in a location that provides for almost everything the traveler/visitor needs to create a memorable experience in Paris. The metro (yellow line 1) is co-located inside the station and provides easy and safe connections to the entire metro system fanned out under the city. With a 3 minute schedule between metro trains the Motre Dame Church, the Orsay Museum, the Louvre Museum, and the Eiffel Tower are just minutes away. If Euro Disney is one of your destinations the RER A (A4 - red line) is also connected to the station. Just steps away surrounding the hotel are reasonably priced restaurants to relax in after a day of walking and sight-seeing; sandwich shops that provide a great selection of simple lunches that can be picked up fresh in the AM and used for lunch while walking around; a reasonably priced market for the basics either forgotten or exhausted; as well as several bakeries offering more sinfully tasty treats than one should readably consider (even while on holiday). The hotel staff is friendly and professional providing information and assistance to those staying there. Rooms are clean and relatively large. The only downside to the location of the hotel is the sex shop next door. Other than the advertisement via the neon signs in the covered windows the establishment is discreet. However, to some it may be offensive.
“A terrific center of operations for our visit”
We had two days in between other obligations in France. The location of this hotel was unusually convenient, due to its proximity to the Gare de Lyon, with its shops and nearby restaurants. We found the hotel within covenient walking distance (not close but in Paris, walking for 20 minutes seems to be nothing) of the places we wanted to see, such as the Ile de la Cite (Notre Dame, Sainte Chappelle) which were accessible, while the neighborhood was quiet enough to let us get over our jet lag.
“1st trip to Paris!”
I have never been to Europe before so I was a little nervous about the condition of the hotel we would stay in because I had heard such horror stories. I did a lot of research and read all the reviews for Holiday Inn Bastille and I was most pleased with everything at the hotel during our stay in March 2010. When we arrived, we asked for a room with a balcony which was great idea. The staff was very accomodating, we got a great room with a balcony that opened up to an amazing view of the neighborhood. Keep in mind, most of the rooms with balcony's are smoking rooms which you only notice for the 1st few mins when you walk in. My boyfriend and I are not regular smokers and this did not bother us - the balcony was worth it! The neighborhood was wonderful, lots of little restuarants to go to and the Bastille stop was within a 5min walk. Their is a market/grocery store across the street and we felt very safe at all times. Litterally the only thing that bothered me with the hotel was that 1 day I needed an extra towel and had trouble getting an extra from the housekeeper since my French is terrible. I would stay here again in a heart beat.
“Never fly UNITED again”
Without any prior knowledge of Paris or assistance from Expedia, I chose this hotel which turned out to be a great location to train station, area restaurants, etc. The front desk staff is very helpful and knowlwedgeable. The rooms are very small and I see why no more than 3 to a room is allowed which I beleive is European design (i.e. all hotels have small rooms based on discussion with others). The only problem encountered at this hotel was the last night when room service was requested, and after being told for 45 minutes to call back in 10 minutes, I was told it was closed despite requesting well before closing time. That said, I would stay there again as the location and neighborhood was great.
“Surprise”
Old exterior..... very modern ,well appointed comfortable rooms that well exceeded my expectations at the price for Paris. Great location across from major subway connection.
“Father/Daughter Trip”
My daughter and I read reviews before we left for our trip. The negative ones were written by people I believe would never be happy. The hotel is in Bastille and located near a main subway hub which was perfect for our excusions. The staff was very helpful, checked in early which was a real plus after flying all night. The balcony afforded a great view of all. It was clean, quiet and offered everything we needed. Still has some renovations going on, but not a problem. The sex shop everyone wrote about next door you wouldn't even know was there other then the sign outside. Overall I would highly recomend this hotel for it's value, location and very helpful staff.
“Decent hotel for the price and location”
When I arrived well before check-in on Monday morning, I was checked in right away and did not have to wait. There was a problem with the electricity on the first day. It was off and on for most of the day. The elevators, of course, did not work when the electricity was down. Having a room on the 6th floor meant I had to use the stairs. I was told the hotel was in the final stages of a renovation. The renovation of the interior of my room had been complete. It was simple and tasteful. The room and bed were comfortable. There was minimal noise and I slept well all four nights. The hotel front desk staff was inconsistent. Some were very helpful and knowledgeable, while others seemed aloof and uncaring. The restaurant in the hotel did serve a full buffet breakfast; however, I chose to eat elsewhere as the food did not look very tasty and I had difficulty getting service upon walking in. Also, it seemed expensive relative to cafes around the corner. I was also a little disappointed in the price of the internet service. It seemed a bit pricey for me. The location is good - just down the street from the Gare Lyon train/subway station.
“Great Hotel:”
As of mid-Sept 2009 the lobby/dining area renovations were coming to a close. Very helpful staff, no language barrier, willing to go out of their way for the guests. Good location with Gare de Lyon station right next door. If you like the night life in the Latin/Germaine quarters then the Bastille District is not going to meet your expectations. Lots of restaurants and bars near the Opera House but nothing like the Latin. The rooms were recently upgraded, large and modern; not your typical French hotel room. Nice, clean place, I will stay there again on my next buiness trip.
“Reliable hotel in terrific location”
We really liked the Holiday Inn Bastille! The location was great - very close to Gare de Lyon metro/train station, but still in an attractive, safe neighborhood. Hotel is still working on some renovation, but appears to be almost done. Our room (6th floor) was great - nicely-furnished, comfortable, good view. Benefit of consistent quality of a chain, but without having to stay somewhere far from the city. Just what we wanted for our visit, and much nicer (and less expensive) than where we've stayed before in Paris! We're planning to go back!
“Better than expected”
Friendly staff, nice rooms for price. Hotel was undergoing construction so had to wait sometimes for 1 available lift. Good location to Metro and train station
