“I can't say enough good things”
Grand Hotel de Champagne is wonderful. It's located on a quiet street, one block from Rue Rivoli, one block from the Seine, and conveniently close to the Louvre. The staff were all warm and friendly, and the source of gracious referrals to great local restaurants. The entire property was very clean. Our room size was typical of European hotels, but it had lovely decor and an amazingly high ceiling. The bathroom was modern and comfortable. All in all, a charming hotel that provided a wonderful stay.
“Wonderful Hotel with Great People”
If you can't stay free with friends, then this is the next best place. It is in a great location, a few steps to a metro entrance so no need for a taxi. Chapelle is the name of the metro stop. The Hotel is a couple of blocks walking distance to Sainte Chapelle, Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Pompedou. The hotel has umbrella's to borrow, a computer to check on things at home, and they give you a great map for getting around. Oh, and they were able to help us find fairly good places to eat too. Of course, as with all European hotels, the rooms were small, but really, it's Paris so you shouldn't be spending that much time there. The rooms were very clean (and I'm fussy) and the bed linens seemed rather new. We would stay here again if going to Paris.
“Great location, clean and comfortable”
The staff was courteous, and efficient. The rooms were romantically decorated, quiet, and not too cramped for comfort. The bathroom seemed recently updated. The room was cleaned well daily. Easy access to Chatelet Metro station leading to all points (including Airport, and Versailles with right transfer). Walking distance to Louvre, and Notre Dame.
“It's perfect in so many ways”
The Grand Hotel Dechampaigne is a well run boutique hotel. The location is superb - about 2 blocks from the Seine, 1/2 block from Metro Chatelet, maybe 5-6 blocks from Louvre. The room was clean - decor red and gold (!!) - bathroom was big enough (good water pressure). The staff was so friendly and helpful. They arranged a shuttle for us from CDG, however, I had trouble contacting the company for pick up. I called the hotel and they handled everything. The breakfast was great - croissants (reg. and choc.), bread, fruit, apple tart, cereal, juice, cheese, sliced meats, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt were offered. I always had cafe au lait and my husband had hot tea. The breakfast room was beautifully decorated and staff was attentive. There was also a sitting room with sofas, chairs, and tables next to the breakfast room. I can't wait to go back!
“Great location, great staff!”
This was our first trip to Paris. The staff made us feel totally comfortable even though we were very limited with our French. The hotel room was confortable and the location was outstanding.
“Nice Hotel, Great Location, a find”
A nice, quaint, and quiet hotel located just a few steps from the centrally-located Chatelet metro station. It is down a quiet street just off the Rue de Rivoli. Great because you don't hear all the noise from the street when trying to get some rest. Within walking distance or a short metro ride of many major things to see. The room was kind of small from an American standard, but large for Paris'. It was large enough for a comfortable king size bed and my wife's two large suitcases. The front desk staff spoke good English and were friendly and more than helpful. The free internet in the lobby was great. The breakfast in the morning was a reasonable value, good coffee. This was our 4th time to Paris and have experienced a lot. We would not hesitate to stay at the Grand Hotel de Champagne again. With the location, reasonable price and amenities, we would consider this hotel a find.
“Great Hotel”
I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and spoke English, which is a plus. The hotel's location is ideal; off a small side street very near to a metro station and several bistros. There is also a small grocery store around the corner. The rooms are small, but no different than any other European hotel I have stayed in with respect to size. Very nice decor, as well. We did not eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on food; although you can order breakfast delivery to your room. The staff provided us with a Paris map which prominently denoted the location of the hotel, which helped us a great deal in getting around. Very clean, nice bathrooms. You can't beat the location -- a short walk to the Louvre and also very close to Notre Dame. I will stay here again when I go back to Paris.
“Small but sweet”
I was very pleased with this hotel, but be aware that the rooms are incredibly small even by Parisian standards. However, you can't beat the location and the room rate was quite reasonable. The staff was exceptionally helpful reconfirming reservations we'd made prior to the trip and arranging for transportation to the airport for our departure. The amenities in the room were minimal but the hairdryer worked and the bathroom and linens were clean. Definitely a good bargain.
“Omnes Gallia”
Overall, this hotel was very pleasant and with the exception that some of the staff were not well-informed regarding such things as museum opening times, shopping locations and other standard tourist questions, we have little to criticise. The price was reasonable for the accommodations. We were pleased with the hotel's very central location (within a ten minute walk from the Louvre and Notre Dame, etc.)However, a few words about the name of the hotel are in order. The name "GRAND Hotel de Champagne" is a bit misleading. The word grand connotes a size and majesty that this hotel does not have. It is a small hotel in a narrow side street with somewhat rundown surroundings. The rooms are tiny, the breakfast buffet is adequate - not grand, the elevator (lift) is minuscule (cramped for three people WITHOUT bags) and the bathrooms are so small that I had to back partly out of it in order to open the shower door (I am overweight, but not huge). Despite this, we would stay in this hotel again. It was clean, if a bit worn around the edges - The air conditioning worked well in the hottest of Parsian summer days - There was always plenty of hot water - The staff was friendly and accomodating. We enjoyed our stay and feel that we received good value for our money.
