“Hotel De Turin was the only mistake in our Europian Itinerary”
We canceled our 4 day stay at this hotel after the first night stay. We are seasoned travelers. The room key is a traditional key not a digital card. So you worry about security at the start. The key fails to open the door and after many attempts you call the front desk. The same guy comes up, opens the door and gives you a disdainful look and does not accept the thanks. There is a trick to opening the door. You enter and it is dark, you turn the lights on. Old pieces of furniture is very scant. The bed looks uninviting and you do not see the bathrooms at first. Then you find the tiny bathrooms. One person at a time please. You lie in bed worrying about bed bugs. There is no carpeting and the wooden floor is color of termite chemical treated wood. Darker greenish. Bed is set low and is uncomfortable. No extra pillows. You open the windows, there is no screen and you have to use the curtain to maintain any privacy. The lift is from an earlier era and very tight. One person and two suitcases maximum. But it is so quiet that you dont know if you have reached your destination. You have to open the door to find out where you are. Internet and the room safe available at extra charge. Do not expect any drinking water to welcome you.
“Place Pigalle in a pinch”
The price suited me and the room, while a bit austere, was adequate. The location, convenient to a Metro station and three bus lines, is also surrounded by the most sex-riddled neighborhood I've ever lived in. More sex shops in a 4 block area than you could imagine. Plus unwelcome, personal "approaches" by the prostitution trade. I could see only one real restaurant in the near vicinity. Everything else was fast-food or real junk. That's Place Pigalle area for you. Post WW2, our GIs called it Pig Alley.
“Good hotel if you are on a budget”
Good hotel if you are on a budget. Everything is small and not overly new, however you can't expect much more in a city like Paris for this price. Common area is very nice, rooms are kind of small, but I only needed it pretty much for sleeping so it was ok. Room and hotel were clean.
“would not recommend for families”
the thing I liked was the tarrif and internet availability at very cheaper price, otherwise hotel was not impressive at all. very small bathroom and not well maintained, flush was not working and on constant complains it was not fixed. room was ok but LCD TV was good. area is basically cheap and untidy with lots of strip clubs and bars. the person at reception was very cooperative and could speak english. although my visit was with my friends but I would not recommend this hotel and area for families
“Ripped Off...”
My friend and I had booked two seperate rooms. When we got to the hotel, we were told that for the first night we would have to share a room as they were over booked. For our inconvenience, we were given free breakfast for the following morning. Never a mention of refunding one night's room rate. We paid much more for the room per night than the cost of two continental breakfasts! Then they had the gall to try and charge us for it when we checked out!
“very impressed qwouldgo there aGAIN”
The Grand hotel De Turin was everything we expected, clean and accommodating, Very close to public transportation less than (3) blocks to bus, metro, and (2) of the main train stations were less than one mile. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful in giving directions and maps to use the citys public transportation. We would rank it very high.
“Much better than expected”
I read some negative reviews here, but this hotel was much better than expected. Yes, the elevator is small, but the whole time i was there, i didn't have to share it. The room was bigger than expected, as was the bed. Front desk staff were very helpful. My flight left late at night, and they let me leave my luggage at the front desk after checking out. Very convenient location. A lot of sex shops and stripclubs, but never felt unsafe, even at night. Don't buy the breakfast in the hotel...there are plenty of cheap alternatives close by. Overall, a great way to experience Paris. I was on the 6th floor, with a small balcony...great view, and great way to unwind after a packed day sightseeing.
“Paris Part Deux”
I found the staff to be very helpful. The room was very small for four peolpe, would recomend for two tops. Close to all, and convient metro stop
“Great price and will return!”
The people at desk were friendly, spoke English, and were courteous. Everything was very convenient and for the price, the room wasn't bad. Our bathroom door wouldn't shut, which was my only complaint. Oh, and the fact that the Americans upstairs were having a party and we could hear that throughout the entire night. Other than that, I can't complain at all. Don't pay for the continental breakfast -- just go out and buy a Pain du Chocolat or Croque du Monsieur or something. The hotel breakfast is not worth your money.
“Would definitely go back.”
My room was on the top floor (6th). The web reviews don't lie. The tiny phone booth sized elevator only goes to the 5th floor so you have to walk the flight to the top. I thought this was hillarious. Obviously some reviewers have a more negative outlook. The room was clean, and not too large. Actually bigger than I expected having assumed it would be like Manhattan. My single bed was more like a double. Cleaning staff came daily. Although they may have only changed the sheets once in the week I was there, they replaced towels daily. The balcony was wonderful. Small, but big enough for my chair so I could have a glass of wine and watch the sun set. Staff were really friendly. They learned my name right away and said bonjour every time I returned. The location was excellent for me. It is very close to Montmarte which turned out to be my favourite part of the city. It's quiet and seems to have more locals than tourists. This was a nice escape after being in a mob of tourists while visiting the famous sites. I was travelling alone, which may have some impact on my opinion. The small elevator may not have been so hillarious if Ihad to choose between my family and my luggage. The walls were a little thin. I wore earplugs and slept fine. If I were the one making noise I might feel different. Overall, I knew I was going for a lower end hotel in order to save money. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was far better than expected.
