The place is fine for staying just one night, at least that's what I thought. The hotel is ok, it's close to a metro station, has shampoo, soap and towels, it's got the basics. However, there was a tiny cockroach in the bed the morning after. The place can have whatever it might, but this puts it on the very bottom of the scale

The hotel is located next a casino and in a bad part of town. The rooms are old and dirty. The sheets are filthy and no hot water. Had to change rooms 3 times because of problems. The plaster walls are crumbling and the bathroom has cockroaches coming out of the shower drain. I will never recommend or stay in this place ever again . So disgusting.

I wanted a cheap dorm-style set-up and that's what I got! The price was right! I paid for an extra bed, which increased overall cost, but on the other hand that minimized the crowding, as I only had to deal with two, rather than three roommates. The two roommates I got did turn out to be nice people! Shower and bath facilities were clean. Sheets changed every day. No problems! If dorm-style living arrangements at a low cost meet your needs, then go for the Hotel Repúlica!

Hotels.com sucks ass!
We accidenlt booked this room and we were trying to go to fla. Not pa. Hotels.com was terrible. They would not give us our money back or honestly help in anyway. Trust me go with booking.com. we used them and it is going amazing!

The place is clean but roaches in the room is a big issue and staff are terrible the house keeping do their job well buy managements are careless,same breakfast every morning cereal and milk 2 slices of bread with egg every single morning its take it or leave it. The place itself is clean but no trash can nowhere you have to go downstairs across the street to throw your trash. one dude at the reception tried to steal my girl while going to the vehicle she was missing for a few minutes i was like where is she when i went back to the door this dude was sweet talking and flirting with the girl I was like when this dude get grab the girl from me and how this happened since we got off the elevator together that was very disrespectful I did not notice how he got her attention I was like oh wow.I dont know his name he works at the front desk

Hotel Republica is showing its age, but it is a pretty good and affordable option if you want to stay in the heart of the city. (US$30-$40 a night breakfast included) Plaza 5 de Mayo is located at the top of Av. Central, a buzzing pedestrian street (with hundreds of inexpensive stores) leading to to the old city. (It is a 20-25 minute walk to the old city). Note that while the old city has been renovated and is where most tourists attractions and high-end hotels are located, the area around Plaza 5 de Mayo is where local people shop and go out at night. If you want to be in the middle of the action with the local folks and don't mind the noise in the evening, that's the ideal hotel. My room was pleasant with a small fridge, window A/C (not too noisy), and a large shower. Overall a pretty good experience ... and the staff is really friendly, particularly Daniel at the reception and Rosa.

Under renovation. Breakfast is pretty lame. Eggs with chopped up hot dogs and cereal. Lovely rooms that are well worth the price. The downside is the neighborhood is a little sketchy.

This hotel is located in a very rough/tough area of Panama City. If you have a car - too bad. The garage they use is a block and a half away and is not secure. TV did not work, walls in room were in need of paint. No hot water (but I was told that was normal by staff). The building itself is safe enough, but you won't be walking around the area. I tried to check up for over 4 hours and was told that I would have to wait for the manager (who never showed up). If your up for a cheap stay and not planning of staying in the area to walk and tour, this place will work.

Good Hotel in a busy but exciting location
It was affordable. the building was secure, but the area was a bit noisy. after a while you don't even think about it. it is close to the bus station and lots of shops near by. It is Central Avenido after all. Few blocks from the historic Casco Viejo (Casco Antigua). Many taxi/uber drivers know it as Plaza Cinqo De Mayo. Easy to get around.

Good place to stay in between Casco Viejo and Banking District. Hotel with lots of potential that still needs a little attention to details. Fair price/value for the not too spoiled tourist :-)

The worst experience that i ever had. I stayed only the first night and moved out even though i had paid for 4 nights. There were insects and cockroaches walking on the floor. The room and the hotel and the staff was the most horrible experience of my life. I have been a very long and loyal customer of Orbitz and now i have my reservations whether to use Orbitz in the future or not. It was such a bad experience that i moved to another hotel and paid the hotel charges of another hotel in addition to have already paid for the horrible Hotel Republica for 4 nights.

Good hotel for proximity to Casco Viejo
Was a good location for Casco Viejo (Old Town) being a 10min walk in the day or $2 uber at night. Uber drivers got confused with the roads as it seemed to be a new 1 way system google maps didn’t know about. Rooms were clean and staff friendly but showers were cold.

This hotel has a great location in the historical district. It is easy to find and there’s lots to see within walking distance. They were doing construction and had removed the elevator, so we had to climb the stairs with our luggage up to the sixth floor, that part was annoying. But an overall enjoyable experience with a great view.

Elevator didn’t work the 7 days I stayed there. Got stuck on the freight elevator the next day. Had to use the stairs. Stayed on the 5th floor. No hot water. Staff was friendly. If the Elevator and hot water was working I Definitely Would Stay There Again...

One Night Stay
The taxi driver told us that we were being left in a dangerous part of downtown Panama City and that he would not suggest that we linger outside the hotel. The toilet did not flush and they had no face wash towels; only large bath sheets. The elevator did not work. The free breakfast was good; beds very comfortable and the staff very accommodating. It was good for an overnight rest from an 18 hour flight layover.

Smelly, dirty, bad area not worth the bargain
We are from latin america, travel a lot, and always stay in budget friendly hotels and this was the only and worst experience ever. The first room we got was so smelly. Because we are flexible we opened the windows and tried it for a lil but it was just horrible. Then we noticed it was dirty and even the lights didnt work. We switched rooms. Better smell but still questionable. We stayed anyways. The bathroom curtain had mold everywhere. The best were not confortable and we decided to just sleep on top of it because we didnt trust the sheets were clean. I dont mind the old look since we stay at hostels and other places buy this sumply looked and felt old and dirty. The neighborhood was about 3ish blocks from the nice casco viejo. Again, because we look like locals we feel confirtable walking around more dangerous neighborhoods, if course not carrying valuables. As we walked were stopped and aggressively searched by a Gang unit that werent in police uniforms so for a second we thought we were getting robbed/kidnapped. They didnt even identify themselves, aggresively searched us and asked questions and then just tool off... so its definetely not safe, which is ok to us, but this was a lil extreme. We took taxis only after that. This was only a 1 night stay and we didnt spend time at the hotel but it was simply bad and i would never go back. Also there was only one plug in the room where the lamp was so we had to pull the nighstand and unplug the light to charge one phone...
