Property Amenities
Major renovation work has been undertaken throughout the Inn and all our bedrooms are now en-suite, with secure wireless Internet access, remote control colour television and direct dial telephone as well as tea and coffee making facilities. All the rooms have their own individual character but keep with the general theme of the hotel, leading to the rooms are winding staircases, split level floors and various heights to the ceilings, all in all adding to the 'old-world' features.

“Excellent Value for the Price. Centrally Located.”
I rarely review hotels, so please trust this one. Some reviews of the Old Black Horse Inn have been harshly critical of small rooms and uncomfortable beds. Pay them no heed. They must all be from spoiled US tourists who don't understand the challenge of finding affordable accommodations close to the heart of Oxford. The Black Horse is right in the heart of things. Of course the rooms are small. It was built in the 1600s! But I couldn't have been happier with my small room, given the price and the location. Think of it as "quaint." Moreover, the staff were wonderful. My flight was delayed, leading to an arrival in Oxford at 1:30 am! The staff happily give me the security code for the back door and instructions on where to find my room key. Upon arrival I even found a handwritten note with the wifi code and breakfast times. I would strongly recommend the Old Black Horse to any Oxford visitor wanting a close-in location at a fair price.
“Old fashioned hospitality at The Old Black Horse”
We had to book an inexpensive hotel for mayday in a hurry, and were expecting the usual, clinical everything looks the same place to just sleep. I wasn't even going to bother with breakfast. Instead we had a smashing pub, full of character, really quirky and comfy bedroom, an opportunity to watch the Manchester Derby inside (or outside if you wanted to smoke, very thoughtful and inclusive) the pub0 the .Added to this, very friendly and hardworking staff and a delicious breakfast. I have already recommended The Old Black Horse to a colleague!!Peace restored from mayhem at The
“convenient but basic”
Disappointing breakfast, no yoghurt or fruit, and a very basic provision of trad English and toast. Difficult if you have any dietary needs.
“It's got character”
An Inn and Pub from the 1600's. Check in at the bar. The stairways are very narrow, so if you have lots of bulky luggage, forget it. The rooms are small. I am 5 feet 6 inches tall and had to duck to get in the door. My husband is 6 feet 6 inches and looked like Gandalf in a hobbit hole. The room was clean and relatively comfortable. Located right near city center, it was a convenient location and breakfast in the morning was good.
“Convenient”
This is very convenient to downtown Oxford via High Street. However, it's little more than a pub with a bunch of rooms connected to it. Our room was directly over the pub, so it was extremely noisy- be warned if you're a light sleeper. The room was clean, the breakfast, when served, ok (they did not seem to have it the second morning of our stay). Definitely a no-frills place. Free parking- a big plus if you're driving. Room spacious-but the noise issue was a real pain. Really wouldn't recommend to anyone other than the free car park and the convenience to downtown Oxford.
