“Peaceful and good facilities”
Organised a medical school reunion here and it was a great success. well organised hotel with cheerful and helpful staff.
“Great surprise”
After reading some mixed reviews we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised - we asked to be placed away from any noisy functions and didn't hear any noise all night :) The grounds were beautiful and green, inside was clean and our room was quite modern and large -- there was no fridge however. Reception were fantastic, going out of their way to give us directions/help etc and even gave us free parking in an associated property closer to town.
“Very satisfactory short break”
Enjoyed a two day break at this hotel. On arrival we were greeted straight away in a friendly manner and given directions to our room. This was what appeared to be an old stable block converted to a bedroom, with an additional door opening out on to the extensive grounds. The room had adequate space, and the bathroom was adjoining, but through an extra door so that one was not disturbed by the light if the other had to use the facilities. Welcome tray provided, very hot water, and comfortable bed. Downside was the lighting, and although there were six separate lights, these were totally inadequate to read by, or to put on makeup. This seems to be a trend at hotels to put in low lighting; may be just two good lamps would have given off far more light and be more cost-effective. Also the bathroom appeared to be in need of refurbishment. Meals in the restaurant were very satisfying. The dinner menu is fairly short, and could do with one or two daily 'specials' as it does not change. Breakfast was excellent, and the service there also very good. It is the first hotel we have stayed in for some time that there has been this level of service and well-trained and friendly attentive staff. As an example, fried eggs were replaced as soon as they started to look tired and hard. We enjoyed a walk around the extensive and well-kept grounds, which reach down to the Thames. Overall, a very satisfactory stay, and we would recommend this hotel.
“Great location for a relaxing Oxford break”
The hotel is lovely. We did have a few minor issues but the hotel manager delt with them all in the most professional manner. We would love to return next year and would highly recommend the location.
“Very restfull weekend”
We stayed for three nights and overall the stay was very good. Beautiful grounds, efficient and friendly staff. A delightfull 1st floor room complementary drinks each day,a balcony and views over the garden and down to the river. The pool and leisure facilities were clean. The pool could have been warmer but the jacuzzi was very good. We dined each evening in the restaurant. On the second night service was not as good, probably due to a wedding party also being catered for in a separate part of the hotel. We were served quite quickly but the table next to us waited a very long time. We also heard complaints voiced by another group. As the change to digital television is now so near we were amazed to find an old analogue T V in the bedroom with very limited channel coverage. That apart we had a very enjoyable stay, and would return to see more of the country side.
“Lovely surrounds”
The front of the hotel is very nice, although the building is a bit sprawling - it took ages and various firedoors and corridors before we reached our room. The rooms themselves are a little surprising - felt like being in a rather anonymous motorway hotel - which is in counterpoint to the grounds of the hotel, which are absolutely lovely. A river runs through the grounds of the hotel (close to our window) and there's a flock of different birds to look at. So a nice place to stay, as long as you don't spend too long in the room.
“Lovely setting, lovely building not so lovely room”
Lovely grounds. Lovely building. Room was in need of a refurb, bathroom very average indeed, no AC. We had a ground floor room with a glass sliding door, lock was very weak and did not feel secure at all. Hotel advertised it is 3miles to Oxford, true if you walk but much further driving. Ended up spending a lot on taxis.
“Not all its crack up to be”
Staying at the hotel leaves you wishing you had might just as well booked in a Premier inn. The River boat service to Oxford only runs once a day leaving you only one hour in the city. The restaurant cannot make tea, so that sums that up. The dining area is hot (no air con at this hotel) and its not big enough . If you run out off items in your room that's it not replaced. All in all this hotel leave you thinking how did it get a four star rating.
