“Lovely location in a University town.”
We visited Oxford at Christmas-time just after a snow fall. The hotel was ideally situated near many of Oxford University's colleges and was convenient to lots of shops, restaurants AND a Starbuck's. Although our room was on the small side, the bathroom was a good size. The hotel's hallways are narrow, so maneuveing luggage is a bit inconvenient. But, that won't stop us from staying here again.
“Great Hotel, Great Location”
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful and everything was SO clean. It was difficult to find this hotel from the street -- it isn't well marked, but if you find it, it is certainly worth it!
“Great Option”
The hotel was well located - about a 5-10 minute walk from the main shopping centre. There is a city tour bus stop very close by. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was enormous, I wish I'd brought my bubble bath!
“A Night at the Eastgate”
We arrived late afternoon to the hotel. Our check-in was quick even thought there was only one person at the very small desk. The building itself is very old (built 1300s or so), but all else was modern and charming. The bath facilities looked as though they were circa 1920s with an interesting arrangement for the shower/bath. Once I got it adjusted and showered, I shouted to my husband that if he wanted to take a shower, he had better do it Right Now, because I wasn't going to explain that contraption to him. The panel that se3rved as a showul, but water was splashed all over the entire bathroom. It was all amusing but what a mess for some housemaid to clean up. Breakfast was very good, but the price was not. At check-in we were told the breakfast was 10 pounds per person but in paying for the meal we learned that the clerk omitted to say "with the voucher" and had failed to give us the necessary vouchers. The restaurant staff didn't seem to be concerned that the hotel staff person had omitted the vouchers when we checked in and charged us the full price anyway. That was the only dissappointment.
“Very nice”
New wing of hotel is clean, accessible and modern and very nice. Staff extremely helpful about locations. Hotel wonderfully located in town. Prices very reasonable. Recommend!
“outstanding”
I had a wonderful stay in Oxford at the Mercure Eastgage. It is very conveniently located near tourist sites and Oxford University. I visited with professors at the university and toured Oxford, so the hotel was extremely convenient for both. The hotel service was outstanding. The hotel is also near restaurants and shops so you don't need to go far to find what you want. The breakfast at the hotel is also first rate. I could not speak more highly of this hotel.
“small central & comfortable”
We had a small attic room overlooking Magdalene College tower & Botanical Gardens. Bed & room very comfortable & quiet. Excellent central location and worth paying for the Hotel parking. Didn't eat or drink in hotel as city facilities within minutes walking. Will go back.
“No Oxford blues”
We had booked the hotel through the Expedia site and were expecting a decent hotel and location. The location was excellent, on Oxford High Street but situated right in the old university area. The hotel, although on the street, was very quiet with no noise from the street. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and there were no problems with the hotel's facilities. The room was situated overlooking Merton Street with a view onto an old college building. The romm was spotless and the daily cleaning was excellent. The hotel was quiet, probably due to the fact we visited just after a Bank Holiday weekend, but the overall impression was of a first-class hotel I would gladly visit again.
“Excellent hotel in the centre of Oxford. Would definitely stay there again.”
Exceeded my expectations. Great room, great service, great location.
“Great city centre hotel”
just off the High Street in quiet lane. easy walking distance to restaurants etc for the evening and walking tour of city centre in the morning. very good breakfast. The room was nicely furnished and the bed was very comfy. We thought it was excellent value for money
