Never Again!

Posted 12-Dec-2014
Pros: good size room
Cons: Staff training. When ever something went wrong the staff did not take responsibility or try to resolve the issue.
I am an Ottawa local and booked the Novotel for two nights for the weekend of my wedding, mainly because I was interested in the Albion rooms restaurant. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The 'honeymoon suite' was very comfortable and large but they failed to inform us that the wall between the shower and bedroom was glass. This wasn't a feature I was interested it and made it difficult for my fiancé to shower and get ready while I was getting my hair and make up done. The staff service was terrible. When I ordered a pot of tea from room service I was told that it would take 30 minutes because 'the guy who makes the tea isn't here yet'. We couldn't order breakfast because there wasn't a menu in the room. When we requested one the dinner menu was delivered. Our breakfast order was incorrect. The worst issue was when we requested a wake up call on Sunday afternoon so that we could take a nap before meeting friends for dinner. We never received a wake up call and missed dinner with our friends that had travelled in from out of town for the wedding. We were told that "the system had made an error". Overall it was a lot of work to stay at the Novotel and I would never do it again. The manager was nice enough to comp one night's stay but it didn't make up for the fact that our wedding weekend continuously interrupted by bad service.

OK hotel close to Parliament Hill and shopping.

Posted 10-Dec-2014
Pros: It is clean, close to historic attractions, excellent shopping and diverse dining establishments. Room came with free WiFi.
Cons: Rooms are small and ours did not have a fridge or microwave, which would have been useful.
Location: Less than ten minute walk to Parliament. Right across the street from a major shopping center. Three blocks from the Byward Market area.
Booked into hotel for long weekend because of its location and availability of a "superior" room at a special rate.

Close to Rideau Centre

Posted 26-Nov-2014
It was close to the Rideau centre and Byward Market, which was nice. Also, the attached garage was nice. However, the elevator going to the hotel was broken so we had to walk and we'd been shopping:( Also, the walls were paper thin in our room and the people next door partied until 4 am!! Had to call the front desk twice. Would have been nice if the hotel had recognized the inconvenience of that problem.

centrally located close to university of ottawa

close to market, but not the noise ! Easy walk to the University of Ottawa, excellent restaurants within walking distance, no need for a car or taxi if visiting downtown Ottawa.

Room without a view

Posted 17-Nov-2014
Pros: Excellent location, close to byward market
Cons: Detail cleaning in room
Location: Parliament Hill, Byward market
Disappointed to be on the top floor with a view of the brick wall next door. The bed linens consisted of only a duvet and a top sheet on the mattress. Detailed cleaning needed to be done in our room.

Perfect for tourists

Posted 15-Nov-2014
Pros: The location, the price, the restaurant, the bathrooms, the value for money
Cons: The room was a bit too warm; as well the rooms (though very well-kept) look a little 90's. Also the water bottles are mini-bar, which isn't mentioned
Location: The location is great; everything is at your fingertips-- the NGC is a 10 minute walk, Byward Market is 5 min away, and Elgin St. is a 10 min cab ride
This hotel is super close to Byward Market, Parliament, and the National Gallery. The prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is great. While he rooms could stand an update, the lobby and other facilities are beautiful. Definitely would book here again.

nice hotel for the value in downtown

Posted 14-Nov-2014
Pros: staff, location. Free WIFI and lobby computers.
Cons: rooms need a mini fridge. mini bar has items on a sensor that automatically charge your room if moved so you cannot store personal items in it.
Location: Byward market and Rideau center are right next to the hotel. Both are a must see for shoppers and foodies.
Rooms were clean, roomy enough and pleasant. Needs a mini fridge other than the mini bar which explicitly tells you that you cannot store personal items in it. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Free local calls would be nice too as there was a charge for local calls.

Nice Hotel close to Byward Market

Posted 11-Nov-2014
Pros: Friendly staff. Building and rooms are clean and tidy.
Cons: Service at the restaurant on first floor could be improved.
Location: Rideau Center next door. Close to National War Memorial and steps to Byward Market.
Had a great stay. Room was clean and roomy. Loved the location, right next to Byward Market and next door to the Rideau Centre.
