Great Location!

Posted 3-Jul-2015
Went for Canada Day 2015. Good clean hotel. Room with 2 double beds was not large but certainly suitable for 3 of us. Never used car for the 3 days we were there, walked everywhere. So close to everything like Byward Market where there are tons of restaurants to choose from. Walked to Parliament Hill, The Mint and the Art Centre and Rideau Mall is across the street from hotel. Ate breakfast at hotel on last day, kids under 16 eat free so great deal and food was great. Highly recommend this hotel.

Wonderful hotel

Posted 2-Jul-2015
Its a wonderful hotel in terms of design, room quality and location. However, 3 points I didnt like: 1- the gym or fitness room is sooo limited and small. 2- the free wifi internet in the rooms was so slow and limiting. 3- the shower had no shelf to put the shampo or shower gel, no option other than holding it or throwing it on the floor.

Can't beat the location

Posted 28-Jun-2015
You couldn't ask for more in terms of location. The Novotel is right next door to Byward Market which hosts great shops, bagels (!!!), coffee, restaurants, locally-farmed goods, and more. The newely-opened restaurant within the hotel is also fabulous. Great food (a tad overpriced), and really nice to take up to your room if you're feeling like a lazy night in bed. The lobby of the hotel is lovely and modern, but the rooms are tired and tiny. It's also strange to me that they don't offer rooms with two queen beds - only doubles. The one thing that really generally turned me off was that staff showed absolutely no interest in helping my friend and I with our luggage as we tried to wrangle our luggage cart and my small son who was TOTALLY OVER IT. A friendly smile, and a 'can I help you with that' goes a long way.

small room with the unpleasant view

Posted 25-Jun-2015
Pros: location
Cons: decore
Location: good location
I didn't like the room, outdated décor, overall was ok , but I was not impressed. Not a "value for the money". Beds were comfortable.

Nice downtown hotel

Posted 22-Jun-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Rooms are very tiny, typical of a European hotel.
Location: Biward Market has a lot of nice restauraunts.
The hotel is ideally located to downtown. Close to the market, parliament buildings and the Rideau shopping mall. It is also close to the Shaw convention Centre.

City highlights are easily accessible.

Posted 22-Jun-2015
This hot is located at such a great spot that everything is easily accessible. Just by crossing the street you can go to the best eateries in town. We ended Up eating at the Aulde Dubliner which is a great restaurant, a less than 5 minute walk from the hotel. All in all a great experience. Recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Ottawa.

Good location, attractive lobby, thin walls.

Posted 18-Jun-2015
Pros: Location, lobby.
Cons: Old TV, thin walls.
Location: Mall, House of Parliament, etc.
Spent one night there last week. Good location, near Rideau Centre although that part of the mall is undergoing renovations. Lobby quite attractive. Rooms could use an upgrade --- look a little dingy. Surprised at how thin the walls were. When I turned off my TV, I could clearly make out what was being said over the neighbours' TV. I thought they were blasting it but went out into the hallway and they were not. So if you are bothered by noise... Not a great view from my room but an okay hotel for a night.

Many things broken, told the front desk, not fixed

Posted 18-Jun-2015
Coffee maker didn't work (carafe too short to open filter basket drip valve). Shower stall leaked, making floor slippery. Toilet handle kept sticking, not allowing tank to fill, water kept running. Avoid room 637 Front rotating door in lobby badly timed, had to dodge and weave, and pinched roller suitcase on way out. Told front desk about problems early in stay, nothing fixed. Oh yah, bought "high speed internet" didn't work.

Staff were friendly.. room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a little pricey. Can get a good breakfast down the street for 5.00. Would stay again. Close to everything.
