“Embassy West Ottawa”

This hotel is being sold off floor by floor to become a seniors apartment home. The room I had on the 3rd floor was already modified for senior living. ie shower - no bath, seat in shower, wide door for wheelchair, fake wood floor amd small kitchen area. The restaurent is now only for use by seniors and the promised exercise room does not exist as the basement has been taken over for senior events and therapy. The shower seat was already pulling away from the wall, the toilet was not set properly and rocked. The lighting over the bathroom sink was very bad, too low in brightness. Poor workmanship and quality. The elevator card security was understandable but a nuisance. I would not stay there again.

Area recommendations
The downtown hotels may cist a bit more, but they give easy access to the local sights and many restaurents in the downtown area withing easy walking distance.

“Satified with stay”

The hotel was clean and the emloyees were friendly. I didn't have many problems with my stay, though there weren't many towels provided. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.

“Surprised it was a seniors residence too”

THis hotel was clean, outside construction, but also a seniors residence with no facilities for hotel guests. We could not get breakfast close by and was not a kitchenette. no toaster, no kettle, no stove only microwave and fridge. I was quite disappointed as I was travelling with 3 children and was trying to make the trip more affordable. Very clean room and up to date facilities.

“Never Again!!”

Upon my arrival at the Embessy (west) Hotel (?) I found the area totoaly under contruction as was the hotel itself. Also much to my surprise the hotel was actually a combination Retirement Home and Hotel. That was a first for me and I am a seasoned traveller. I really thought i was in the wrong place. The front reception peson was not very "receptive" when I asked if this was the Embassy Hotle?...of course it is" he pointed to the sign on the wall. Needless to say I will not stay there again. Nothing to do with the facility as it was clean and the rooms were adaquate.

“Senior house, not a hotel!”

The room is alright, standup shower with the seat (as the building is designed for senior living!), toilet was a rocking chair and I asked to fix it twice and it never got fixed! The description doesn't say anywhere that it’s a senior house, but as soon as I got there - huge letters saying "Embassy West Senior Living". I mean it might be great for a senior with disabilities, who would appreciate the amenities, but for a business trip it was just awful! There is a HUGE difference between a three star hotel and a senior house...C'mon! If I would have known - I would book another hotel. The one thing in my head was - "who lived in this room before me and who might have died in it". Also, only one, slow elevator, cheep coffee, tiny $10 coffeemaker and weird smell throughout the building and even stronger inside the room. The freezer inside the fridge would not keep the temperature, no hooks in the bathroom to hand towels/robe/travel toiletries…I would NOT recommend staying in this place! STAY AWAY FROM IT!

“some surprises”

We had booked online, and were startled to see on the outside of the hotel a large sign welcoming everyone to the Embassy West's Senior residences. The elevator smelled of urine. There were seniors in wheelchairs roaming around, Our room had a lot of special equipment for semi-disabled seniors, like a call bell attached to the toilet and a seat in the shower. The worst part of staying here was learning to use the plastic card key to run the elevator.

“Decent and cheap place to stay short term”

Good service overall. We knew this place is becoming a senior home, so we were not surprised by seeing the elderlies there. The AC in the hotel room was not strong enough but perhaps it was our problem for not using it correctly (it's not as simple as a thermostat). Overall satisfied. The place is going to be converting entirely into a senior home, so if you plan to visit Ottawa and stay at this place, be quick, you got about a year left.

“"Hotel and Senior's Residence!"”

We arrived at the hotel and noticed the billboard sign outside the hotel that said "Seniors Living Residence". We then pulled into the parking lot and noticed two seniors outside the lobby doors; in wheelchairs, and they were accompanied by their caregivers (who were wearing nurses' uniforms). We wondered if we were at the right hotel? Unfortunately, we were. The person at reception (who was very friendly and understanding) told us it was still operating as a hotel (second and third floors only) - first and fourth floors for permanent senior residents. If we had known that this was a 24 hour, full care senior's residence for both independent seniors and seniors requiring 24 hour care; we would not have booked the hotel. From the lobby of the "hotel" to the layout of the rooms (assistive living devices in bathroom and bedroom); it simply looked and felt like a senior's convalescent home or retirement residence. You may be the type of person that is not bothered by your surroundings but this is not what we wanted or planned for - it simply changed the entire atmosphere of our weekend. We stayed one night only .

“Not bad. Might be good after renovation.”

Hotel was under renovation and I got the new room. Very well equiped but little noisy, specially the air conditioning and ventilation system on the restroom. No restaurant was available at the time due to renovation. Maybe good option after completion of renovation.
