The hotel is in a fantastic location with sea views and just short walks to all of Ortigia's main attractions plus trattoria's bars and the daily market which is a must see.
You can easily walk to Syracuse and the Archaeological park and the hotel is very helpful with offering advice if you require it regarding public transport if you wish to venture further a field.
The free soft drinks in the mini bar and the free drinks provided in the reception area were a real treat and a lovely touch along with the basket of fruit in our room on arrival.
The breakfasts were amazing, the choice of fresh fruits were particularly outstanding.
Sadly our holiday was spoiled due to my sustaining a fractured bone in the foot. However the hotel staff went over and above the call of duty in assisting us. They took me to hospital when it happened, loaned me some crutches and organised wheelchair hire, sorted out all the disability assistance needed at the airports Sicilian and UK side which all went without a hitch. They arranged all the taxi hires we needed which were many and were caring and supportive and I can not thank them enough. In particular Gianluco who took us to the hospital initially in his own time, Veronica and Desiree on reception who sorted all the logistics for us, and not to forget Katoushia and Aisha in the Ristorante Sul Mare who looked after us so caringly at breakfast, finding us an easily accessible table to sit at and just being so sweet and sympathetic, they are pure gems.
This is our second visit to The Grand Hotel Ortigya and it wont be our last. It is a wonderful hotel, has beautiful views over the sea from the terrace and is clean and efficient in its running. The Spa is also certainly worth a visit. The restaurant is a treat. More expensive than you will pay in the local restaurants but worth the money for a special occasion. Excellent service too. The hotels private beach is a gem. It has been improved since our visit last year. There are now proper flushing toilets and changing facilities on the beach and a refreshment area that serves light lunches and drinks at reasonable prices.
My boyfriend and I read reviews for many hotels in the area, before picking this hotel, on the coast in Ortigia, the most beautiful part of Siracusa. It surpassed all our expectations! It's a beautiful, quiet hotel with exceptionally friendly staff. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a breathtaking view of the coast. Breakfast, served in a sunny room facing out to sea was delicious, with an array of foods to suit every palette. I would really recommend this hotel. I don't normally write reviews but was so impressed by this hotel I decided to write one.
Absolutely fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and eager to make my stay as perfect as possible. The hotel is clean and incredibly charming. Right on the water with great views both ocean-side and road-side. Sits right in the heart of Ortigia with easy walking access to all of the major landmarks. The restaurant upstairs is very nice and the breakfast buffet was delightful. The spa is a little pricey, but professionally done.

As soon as you step inside the entrance lobby, it feels as if you are in a boutique hotel that blends perfectly with the streets of Ortigia. This is only enhanced by the exposed stone features and quality furnishings in the other public areas on the ground floor. The library/lounge is particularly delightful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, (room 9), with an airy lounge and shared patio balcony. Plenty of space if a little functional. The small kitchen area and fridge came in handy for the odd lunch or aperativo.
"Nice B&B in Ortigia, Siracusa's historical centre"
We spent one night in this B&B in Ortigia, Siracusa's historical centre. The B&B is in a historical building, but the rooms seem recently refurbished to a good standard. The staff was very helpful, and the location was convenient (walking distance to the main square of the old town, short driving distance to the archaeological sites and some nice beaches).
