Property Amenities
Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is nestled amid towering pine trees and native vegetation within the Walt Disney World® Resort, just two miles from Magic Kingdom® Park. Guests check in at the rustic Reception Outpost, which has a stone fireplace, wood-beamed ceiling, and rocking chairs. The large resort borders Bay Lake, and log cabins and paved campsites are situated throughout the woods, connected via a series of roads. The property is extensive enough that it offers its own on-site transportation system: along with bicycles, guests can rent motorized golf cart–like vehicles to get around the grounds.
In addition, complimentary transportation (via motorcoach and water launch) zips guests throughout the campgrounds and to all Walt Disney World® Theme Parks, water parks, and the Downtown Disney® area. Campsites are available with full (electric, water, and sewage) or partial hookups (electric and water). Air-conditioned comfort stations with restrooms and private showers are located near all campsites. There are also laundry facilities on site.
The resort offers lots of recreational activities. A white-sand beach on Bay Lake isn't far from the marina with boat rentals. Over at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, a blacksmith prepares horses for the daily trail rides while kids enjoy the petting farm. Pony, hay wagon, and carriage rides are available. And located throughout the resort are fishing spots, tennis courts, jogging trails, two pools, a game arcade, and volleyball, shuffleboard, and tetherball courts. Several dining options include musical shows and meals with Disney Characters. Poolside dining is available in season, and a country store with camp-related groceries is on site.

“Great”
Everything was A+
“Great place for country folks to stay”
We are rural types, and in some ways, the prospect of a Disney World vacation was a little overwhelming. We loved this resort, though. It is relatively quiet, and we had a lot of space. It is very big, and we spent a lot of time walking, but we enjoyed that part. The trails are nice, and we saw bunnies, squirrels, birds, and even an armadillo! We really want to go back sometime!
“Great Place to stay with young kids”
Ft Wilderness cabins are manufactured homes that look like a cabin. There is a kitchen and small living/dining room area (& murphy bed) and a seperate bedroom with a queen bed & bunk beds. Since most disney properties are REALLY expensive for a suite, this is a great compromise. I recommend renting a golf cart to get around the property (my 3 year olds favorite part of the trip!) There are also camp sites here and plenty of wildlife (rabbits, armadillo, etc). The campfire was fun, but I pictured a roaring campfire, but it is stadium seating with two small fire pits on the side. They sell Smores and hot chocolate, but bring your own to avoid the higher prices. The older kids really seemed to enjoy the night movies. There are two pools here (nothing fancy) and a small beach area. Our kids really enjoyed the Hoop Dee Doo Review. There are also horse carriage rides in the evening, and pony rides during the day. You can take the boat over to the Magic Kingdom which is nice (another kid favorite). I would recommend watching the fireworks from the beach...if you go to the Magic Kingdom, the line for the boat ride back is long. Only one restaurant on the property, but the cabins have a full kitchen so bring plenty of food (there is also a small store with a decent amount of food/drinks). Overall, a great place to stay that the kids will love and for a reasonable price!
“Fort Wilderness Campground is a great place to stay”
We brought our family to Disneyworld and stayed at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. This was our 7th time to Disneyworld, but our first to Fort Wilderness and I'd highly recommend it. They have a full kitchen and dishes so it's nice to be able to make some of your meals outside of the expensive food in the park. The bus system makes it easy to get to any of the parks. It was nice to return to the quiet of the camp after the crowds of the park. Felt like being at summer camp!
“Great place to stay”
Great place to stay - would recommend highly!
“Great Place”
It is just that. A great place. When you've had enough of the crowded parks, standing in line, and noise, this is the place to be. I love Disney and all it has to offer, but it gets overwhelming with so much activity all the time. This hotel allows you to take part in fun activities as a family and slow down a little, without having to stand in line. There's so much to do here, you can't get bored. The service was great, the food was really good. We rented bikes, walked the trails, went to the campfire and singalong a couple of nights, saw the movie one night. It was alot of fun.
“Can't wait to go back"”
I grew up staying at Fort Wilderness Campground every year. We stayed in the cabin this year with our small children. It was so nice having a home away from home. When I say this I mean a nice size dining area, a kitchen full of all major appliances, dishes, and cooking equipment, a living space, a spacious bedroom, and a deck with a grill and picnic table. We never got in our car to go anywhere. The Disney transportation system was fast and easy. The campground has so much to offer that you can spend days just playing in it, with shows, restaurants, taverns, playgrounds, pools, and a very fun campfire sing a long and movies. I would highly recommend this to anyone. We will continue going back for many years to come.
“great for families with kids”
my mom and i took my 4 year old son, and 2 1/2 year old twins to stay and there was so much to do without even going to the parks!!
“Didn't want to leave”
These cabins are perfect for families of all sizes. Plenty of room, comfortable beds, very clean. No cramped hotel rooms or busy elevators. Transportation was great with very little wait. Saved loads of money being able to cook. Staying on disney property is wonderful. Also plenty of entertainment on the grounds.
“Great for family with Grandparents and Baby”
My wife and I stayed at a Fort Wilderness Cabin for three nights with our 15 month-old son and my parents. We were able to set up a portable crib in the bedroom behind the bunk beds and section it off with some clothesline and a blanket. We slept in the bedroom with baby, and grandparents slept in the murphy bed in the living room. Having a detached unit was nice, as we were not as worried about the baby bothering the neigbors.
