“Location”
Best hotel to stay at if you want to be near the beach, we took our 3 year old, easy access to beach & the small play ground. Our room did have AC, a large jacuzzi tub, small refrigerator, room safe & okay bed. Our balcony was over the street by the pier so it was a bit nosy when the bars let out and people made their way home - but with the doors closed, you really didn't hear alot. There is no pool, just a large hot tub and the free breakfast is just juice, bagels & cereal. It is a perfect location for walking around by the docks & taking the auto boat to Balboa Island. I hate to pay for parking - but just like all the other hotels in CA - hotel parking is $25 a night for valet, $15 a day for the public parking next door or take your chances at the parking meters. We really liked this hotel & Expedia does have good room rates. We plan on returning soon.
“Quaint”
Not huge rooms or overly decorated but very charming and perfect for the couple who wants to stay right downtown where you can walk to all the fun... Difinitely made the weekend for us...
“Very Quaint”
Wasn't sure at first when reading some of the reviews prior to booking but it was so much nicer than what some people had said. The staff was amazing, very helpful, courteous and effecient. The location was superb. No pool as indicated in reviews but a large (and smaller) spa/jacuzzi which was located high up so the view of the ocean was great. Maybe it was because of the time of year, but it was very quiet and peaceful.
“Life on the beach”
Balboa Inn was a treat. Unique. A quite neighborhood, friendly and helpful staff. I had a bright sunny room and enjoyed waking up with the windows opened and the breeze blowing off the beach. Delightful.
“So Happy With Balboa Inn : )”
Loved this hotel. Location is GREAT. Staff was wonderful. Building is so beautiful. Easy access all over hotel. Heated pool/spa has a view of the ocean and peir. We are going back for sure. Thank you Balboa Inn.
“Will go back”
I don't understand most of the other reviews. Its not the fanciest hotel, but its not supposed to be. Its an old hotel. My room was clean, bed was comfy. Its pretty expensive for what you get, but its about the only hotel in the middle of one of the most expensive real estate markets on earth... Its a perfect location. I would definitely go back.
“As close as you can get”
I have come and stayed at other hotels in the area but always had to drive to get to my favorite cantina. I read all the reviews and was always turned away from the place by them but I got such a good deal on a room and yes some of the things that were said were true, no AC but had celling fan and opened the windows, yes it was a little loud in the early moring from the traffic I shut the windows made it better. It is an old hotel and you have to know things will not be as if it was a new hotel. I loved it becasue I could walk to the beach walk to Cabo Cantina walk all around have dinner and never had to get back into my car. It was a great time and with the deal I got I would do it again
“great location”
This is an older hotel with some of the downsides of that - smaller rooms and bathrooms, for example. But the room had fireplace to take the chill off and was in the back of the hotel so it was quiet. Decent continental breakfast. Parking is a serious/expensive challenge. Valet parking available at hotel for a fee; parking in paid parking lots is the only other option. But all of these small concerns are worth it for the location - across from the beach and park, near food and shopping and ferries.
“Great Experience!”
The property is not air conditioned, but the ocean front location makes up for it. It was a great choice / experience.
“comfy”
the hotel itself was charming and clean. Very close to the ocean, shopping, and drinking. We parked the car and never used it again. However I am upset that Expedia did not mention the $35 a night charge for vehicles . The only unhappy experience we had on our 2 night stay was the kitchen staff yelling out the alley door late into the night, the hotel has no air conditioning so our windows were open on the 3rd floor and we were kept awake. But that won't stop us from going back.
