Too noisy

Posted 22-Sep-2014
Unfortunately we were on the same floor as a hockey team and right up til the 11 pm curfew it was non stop partying, banging on doors, doors banging shut. My husbands mother was gravely ill and we needed some quiet after a very stressful day at the hospital. Fix the doors so they don't bang shut and put guests on floors that don't accommodate sports teams

Central location

Staff were confused and lazy. Housekeeping did not make bed because there was a back pack on it.

Nicely refurbished room but a bit noisy

Posted 15-Sep-2014
Pros: Central location.
Cons: Windows and door need much better soundproofing.
Location: Huge shopping mall across the street. Tim Horton's just down the block.
It was quite a hike to reach the room from the lobby: up some stairs, down a hall, up some more stairs, along a mezzanine hallway above the pool, through a fire door, up another flight of stairs, through another door, down another hallway. Nicely styled room if you like modern dark colors: black granite counters, grey metallic wallpaper, etc. Very clean and in good repair. A tiny kitchenette with microwave and bar fridge was a welcome bonus. Hallway fluorescent lights blast in around the door which has large gaps around the edges--fortunately there was not a lot of hallway traffic while I was in the room, or else I imagine that noise would have been a problem. Old rattly metal windows let sounds in even when closed--I could hear every word of several conversations occurring in the parking lot.

Quick Business Trip

Posted 12-Sep-2014
IN town for one day on business. This hotel was conveniently located (halfway between each industrial zone in town), and great choice of restaurants. Hotel itself (as all Sandman) is comfortable and as quiet as can be expected being on a main road. Would definite;y recommend.

Strange...

Posted 9-Sep-2014
Pros: The proximity to shopping and the university is good.
Our room was "down" on the first floor. Street level is actually the 2nd floor. Our room was pool level, an indoor pool. We couldn't open our sliding glass door due to the smell of chlorine. We couldn't open our drapes as everyone on the pool level could see in. Plus, there's no windows to the outside. When we got up in the morning (after being woken up numerous times due to a very loud air conditioner), we had no idea what the weather was like. I would not stay here again unless I was guaranteed a room in the tower. Also, the hotel bar had one girl working the entire bar on her own. Service was very slow.

Convenient but was below expectations

Posted 4-Sep-2014
Pros: Location
Location: Close to UBCO
The Atrium rooms are miserable. Dark, smell of chlorine and you can't open your windows. The lobby bar was disappointing. The female bartender was not happy to be there, asked us to wait to order so she could take a break (there were only 6 people in the bar) and was dressed very inappropriately. Understood why there were no other patrons.

Nice hotel, close to restaurants, easy access.

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: Over clean and comfortable. Easy access. Good restaurants close by.
Cons: Replace the air conditioners.
Enjoyed to stay except for the air conditioning which was extremely loud. Had to shut if off at night just to sleep.

Clean and well equipped hotel

Posted 16-Aug-2014
We stopped over for 1 night on route from Banff to Vancouver. The hotel was clean and comfortable as well as being well equipped for an overnight stay. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was excellent and our server Courtney was very attentive, pleasant and obliging. All in all a good experience.

Communications Breakdown

Posted 27-Jul-2014
Pros: The counter staff tried their best to resolve the problems with bookings.
Cons: Fix the communications breakdown with online booking and put money into repairing this hotel HVAC system. Proper layout of parking stalls.
Location: In the heart of wine country and water playland. It's Nirvana.
We arrive only to find that there was some communications breakdown between Sandman booking system and Expedia and other online booking companies. We had a prepaid room through Expedia that was pretty expensive and the room we got was far below standard for what we were charged. The room appeared to be a renovated storage room. We were supposed to get a room viewing the atrium. Instead we got a poster on an outside wall. The floor of this room is so off level the dresser had a 3/4" shim under the front legs. The hallways were at a blistering heat because their ac system for the general areas of the hotel didn't work or were non-existent. The ac for this room they found for us was a completely inadequate little window unit that had to be on full power to try and cool the room due to the non-existent hallway cooling. Parking stalls for this hotel are way too small since most of the clientele drive full size vehicles. I had a difficult time to find a parking stall that I could fit my compact car in without fear of getting my doors dented due to the tight stalls. It has been a long time since I have had such a bad experience with a hotel stay but this one ranks among the very worst.

Great stay.

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Cons: Online, pet rooms should be designated as double Queens so that those booking can book that room opposed to a King.
We booked a room with the cheapest rate and put in the details that we were staying with a pet. When checking in, the King Size Bed rooms did not accept pets. This information was not available online. All other pet rooms were booked (double Queens). They made it right and booked us into a King room and allowed our pet in. Glad to see them make it right without much fuss.
