“Great Downtown Location”
Friendly, terrific location for BART, Chinatown Restaurants
“I love this Hotel”
Great hotel, great service, affordable, clean, convenient, etc. Strongly recommend.
“Great value for money.”
In terms of value for money, its perfect. However, the room doesn't have a refrigerator, microwave, and closet (in case they matter to you).
“A perfect place to stay to take the bar exam!”
I stayed here to take the July 2010 bar exam and it was perfect (not to mention much cheaper than staying at the Marriot and I didn't have to deal with lines or delays that my friends at the Marriot dealt with!). I thought the staff was fantastic and the room was very clean and had all the amenities I wanted. The only con was that my room did not have a fridge or microwave, but I still managed just fine. I would recommend bringing earplugs because the noise from the street can be loud at night and if you are a sensitive sleeper the earplugs will make a world of difference.
“good choice when visiting San Francisco”
i am satisfied with this nice hotel, very clean, bed room is small but is big enough to fit in my needs. bathroom and closet is big and comfortable. i will stay there if visit San Francisco next time,
“Nice place”
I stayed at this hotel for a conference in downtown Oakland. The hotel was excellent. Rooms were clean, the service good. There is a little outdoor mall right down the street with various restaurants. Unfortunately, things close early and most of the stores are closed completely on Saturday. This makes it difficult if you are not interested in fast food. The neighborhood was okay - lots of banks and stuff. I could not tell much about "is it safe or not" because I did not walk around at night....
“Decent stay-great price, clean room”
The hotel was clean and quiet. Quaint and small. Internet acess was available. I was unimpressed with the cleaners the next morning as they were conversing loudly outside my room while I was still sleeping for a bit too long... However, the hotel room suited my needs.
“Clean/Quiet/Cheap But Not Wired”
The hotel is FINE...clean, quiet, inexpensive. Only problem? It's not WIRED and no cell service. Yes you can sit in the lobby and get wireless -- fine if there's no vacuuming at that hour. But unless you're still on ethernet, you can't get wireless in your room (not even if you pay for it) and you can't get cell service. At least I couldn't. Bars on my one window. Felt a little bit like a sensory deprivation chamber. Soda machine was sold out. The area is dodgy plus +. Didn't feel comfortable walking around the block to the one liquor store/deli in the area. The management is very nice though, nice bathroom and the price is right. Just come prepared for no contact with outside world.
“Great value for Bay Area”
The Clarion Oakland was a great value for the Bay Area. The hotel was clean, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooms were nice. The handicap-accessible rooms don't have edges on the showers, so the water spills out onto the bathroom floor, which was one down side. The hotel is close to a BART stop and many restaurants, coffee shops and Lake Merritt. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Oakland/The Bay Area.
“Good price, clean, close to BART.”
The price is right at this hotel - clean, comfortable, pleasant staff, and my room even had a small microwave and fridge. The carpet is old and seemed a bit dirty in my room and throughout the hotel - everything else was great. The hotel is very close to BART for convenient access across the bay area, but after dark there is barely anywhere to buy food or go out to eat - and forget it on weekends. You can walk 20 minutes to the wholefoods to stock up for those nights you'll be home hungry and late. If you're a jogger, you can head over to Lake Merritt - not too far away.
