“Not impressed”

The people that work at the hotel are very nice and helpful but the room was not clean. I opened the ice bucket and it was filled with garbage and the cockroaches were everywhere.

“A place to get cleaned up, and store your luggage...and that's about it.”

Pictures were quite misleading, looked like a very well "updated" place with nice beds and comfortable surroundings...non of which were accurate. From staying in Jamaica to Vegas, we have stayed in just about every type of place available that didn't require us to take out a small mortgage to cover it. And from all the pics and misleading reviews, the Aqua Peal Waikiki is nothing like what you see on expedia or any other site. Rooms are ok size, have flat-panel tvs and that is about it... beds are like sleeping on cardboard covered stone slabs, we arrived to a clean room...however, having 4 of us (two adults and two kids)...2 towels just wasn't going to cut it. Upon seeing a cleaning person and requesting more towels, she was pleasant in saying she would take care of it... well, she left us NO TOWELS... and that happened twice! Front desk personnel is friendly and pleasant, parking is rediculous...$20 a night for "first come, first service, no guaranteed parking" is how they opperate. All in all, I definately will not go back, and will not refer anyone there. We made the best of our trip, and had a good time in Waikiki...but the hotel is definately lacking! As for location, it is close to the International Market...but there is a lot, of nightly screaming and yelling out in front of the hotel. We were woken up nearly each night from anyway where around 1 am... to 4 am with people out front yelling and screaming (drama central). Consider your options before you book this hotel

“Affordable, but small rooms.”

Checking on the website, I thought the rooms would be a lot bigger, but once I arrived, I noticed that my room was small and had the view of the parking lot. At least I was mostly outside exploring Waikiki. The bathroom could use a little work. The faucet was working, but the pressure of the water was weak and was spraying three different directions. The hotel did not have any types of amenities, just a little sports bar connected on the side. The parking lot was small (total of 15 cars parked). The price was affordable, even though I split it with a friend. I recommend this hotel to travelers that would only use it for sleeping and not the amenities.

Area recommendations
Waikiki is an excellent location to go to for leisure. In this city, you can find restaurants, bars, retail shops, and the beach. There are also fantastic malls at Pearl City and Ala Moana.
Getting around
The bus system is overpriced and is always crowded regardless of the time. There are many different bus systems that loop around Waikiki and transport you to other cities. The only problem is that the bus is defined by numbers (2, 4, 19, 20, etc) and there is no sheet that tells you where the bus is going to take you. You need to wait til the bus arrives to find out. Other options are to use the navigation system on your phone or you could just ask someone who frequently rides the bus. There is also the option of walking. Some stores are conveniently close.
What to pack
Surf shorts. T-shirts. Shorts. Shoes. long sleeves. Jacket. slippers. bathroom amenities (toothbrush, toothpaste, gel, deodorant, etc) money.
Must see
Pearl Harbor. Honolulu Zoo.
Shopping
Billabong. Element. T&C surf.
Dining
Dukes Waikiki. Hula Grill. Cheesecake factory. Buffalo Wild Wings. Hard Rock Cafe.
Nightlife
It's more convenient if you are over 21 years old. However, clubs like Zanzabar have specials on Friday or Saturday nights where 18 and over can come.
Events and shows
At around 5 or 6 pm, entertainers start performing on the sidewalks. Magicians, Dancers, etc. They expect a tip afterwards though.
Outdoors or beach
Beach right outside Waikiki. Rent surfboards for $10 an hour.

“good room for great price..”

i've been staying at this hotel for almost a month and i have found no problem with the hotel staff or the hotel itself. the hotel staff are extremely friendly and i have gotten to know a few of them. no favors were given of course. the cleaniness of the room and the round clock maid service good. they even came back despite the usual rounds just to clean up my room.

“A good stay”

We come here regularly for mixed business and leisure purposes. The location is ideal in the center of Waikiki, just walk 100 ft and you enter the International Market Place. The Bus station is even closer. The hotel can provide you with a bus schedule for all major attractions in Waikiki and Honolulu. The rooms are tidy and we love to sit on the balcony after dark. The atmosphere is great. If you need more towels, just ask the front desk and they bring it up. The staff is great in assisting you with any questions you might have.

Area recommendations
For a nice day during the weekend, go to Aloha Stadion, take a movie at Ward's center and enjoy the food at Denny's, the International Market place or any of the other great dining places. If you are here for the famous Waikiki beach, enjoy it all day long or just a few hours and do not miss the sunset and candle lighting. The beach is great for a beach walk as well. Most of all, relax and enjoy your stay.

“Great value, great location”

This was the ideal hotel for our family. We had a 3 bedroom suite with full kitchen for a one week stay and found the location and facilities to be very convenient. It was a short 2 block walk to get to the beach and there were plenty of restaurants nearby. There were a few 'dive' bars in the area but we always felt safe walking with our children, even at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful always obliging with a smile when we asked for extra towels. The parking at the hotel was limited but we never had issues if we parked our car early. The one time we got back late we had to go to the overflow car park which was just across the street. Overall we felt very happy with our hotel choice and would definitely stay here again if we return to Waikiki.

Area recommendations
Waikiki beach is a must! Kids really enjoyed the swimming and zoo nearby.
Dining
For beautiful seafood try azure on Waikiki beach - a bit pricey but worth it. Dukes next door has a fun, beach bar scene (try the mango-rita!).

“Worst Hotel Experience Ever!”

Hotel Staff was courteous and respectful, room wasn't even close to what was advertised, view was terrible and neighborhood was very very poor and noisy. Also parking was hit and miss even with reservation and they expected the guest to park two to three blocks away from the hotel which was extremely inconvenient.

“Aqua Pearl pros and cons”

First and foremost the staff was great. Our first room the a/c was not cooling the room and we were upgraded to a larger room with great air. Beds in both rooms were the same-firm. TV was larger in the bigger room. The hotel was right in the middle of downtown Waikiki-convenient but noisy. The hotel itself had only 15 parking spaces with overflow parking at 2 different garages 1 to 2 blocks away. Rooms had standard mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot. No wi-fi in rooms only hardline. Wi-fi was available down in the lobby and conference room. If you go to Waikiki to shop the strip this place is a good deal. If you are on Oahu to sightsee and go to the beach you should shop around. The best way to spend time on Waikiki beach was to either walk from the hotel(4-5 blocks) or drive east of the beach to the zoo and park there and walk back to the beach area(about half-mile).

Area recommendations
If you like the urban setting stay in downtown Waikiki. If you are more interested in sightseeing you should stay just about anywhere else on the island. You can get to the way more laid back north shore in 30 minutes or so from the airport.
