“Very comfortable place”
How refreshing to stay in a small hotel that is not run by a large corporation! The staff here really care about the hotel and its guests. The Groves is not glamorous or "boutique", just a comfortable, friendly hotel near York city centre (about 10 mins walk) in an old Victorian mansion. Breakfast is terrific too (their continental breakfast is not just an afterthought). I enjoyed staying here and would definitely stay again.
“Lovely quiet hotel in a nice location of York.”
Interesting older building nicely restored. Very fresh clean bathroom.Easy walking distance from centre of York (5 minute walk) Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfasts! Free parking a bonus. Very comfortable stay.
“Would love to go back”
Excellent staff and clean and neat room. Perfect.
“Brilliant”
Very comfortable hotel/ guest house. Beautiful street and house. Very comfy room - clean and good facilities eg beds, TV, tea/ coffee etc. Great cooked to order breakfast. Free car parking on site. $5 Wi Fi for whole stay and $7 for a load of washing and drying. 10 to 15 min walk to town - flat and pleasant and near York Minster side of town. Only very slight problem was nothing very close in way of restaurants for dinner but we found excellent pub on way to town and ate there most nights. An excellent base for touring York. Would highly recommend.
“It would be the first place on our list if we visit the area again”
From the moment we arrived we felt ccomfortable at this hotel. The staff, without exception were friendly and helpful and our room was one of the best we have had anywhere. The hotel's situation, just 15 minutes walk from the Minster made it a perfect place from which to explore the city. It was also conveniently placed if you wanted to explore the surrrounding area. Free parking and cheap WiFi access enhanced our stay.
“Good location, 10mins walk to city center”
Quiet neighbourhood, friendly family feel to B&B, they offer free wi-fi which I needed but I was in a room furthest from the main lobby and wi-fi was intermittant so I went to lounge a few times to use my netbook, breakfasts were hearty, easy access to city center and main railway station was short taxi ride. I would use this B&B again.
“Lovely stay at the Groves”
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at the Groves along with our friends - York being halfway between their home in Edinburgh and ours in Surrey. We very much enjoyed our stay in York, and this hotel added to the positive experience. It is set in a very leafy and quiet part of York close to the school attended by Guy Fawkes, and is about 10 minutes' walk from the city centre. It has a lot of character - unlike many hotel chains that we have stayed in - and is clean and welcoming with friendly and helpful staff. Our room (no 21) was on the first floor and was light and very clean with plenty of hanging space for our clothes and a large TV, and a bright bathroom with an excellent shower and natural light (unusual in hotel bathrooms), plus tea and coffee making facilities. Our friends stayed on the ground floor and I would say that their room was bigger than ours. They had a twin room whereas ours was a double. I believe that one can choose a bigger room for an extra charge which we might do on another occasion. The breakfasts were excellent. There was a choice of full English/vegetarian or Continental plus smaller options, with a choice of eggs and toast/cereals/fruit juice/different jams etc and as much tea and coffee as one could drink. The bar area was pleasant and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again. Our stay there was a very positive experience and we will have very happy memories of our time there.
“Great little B&B for a great price”
My partner and I recently stayed at The Groves for two nights. They are having the B&B refurbished at present but this did not effect our stay. The staff were lovely and we were warmly welcomed. We arrived earlier than the check-in time but that wasn't a problem as our room was ready. Also on our day of departure check-out was at 12pm but we did not have our train booked from York back to London until 6pm however the B&B were happy to keep our bags in their office during the day until we were ready to leave. The staff were happy to help and explained to us where the Groves was located on a pocket map (which were on the reception desk for guests) and how to get back into the city centre. The B&B is approximately 15-20mins walk from the train station and its about 10-15mins walk into the city centre. This does depend on how fast you walk though and where in the city centre you are going too. The B&B is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and we were not disturbed by any noise outside or in the B&B. Breakfast was delicious and very filling. There was cereal, toast and fruit available as well as a number of hot options including a full english which set you up for a day of walking and sightseeing around York. All in all it was a great little B&B for a great price.
“Great Location and hotel”
A wonderful hotel with great staff. We had a room in the annex and it was large and comfortable, and the bathroom massive. Breackfast was very good. The location was also good for York centre it being only a short 10 minute walk. Try the hotel it will not disappoint
“We will be returning.”
My 12 yr old daughter & I stayed at The Groves and we could not have asked for a better place. The recently refurbished hotel interior looks great. The location is perfect, a level 15 min. stroll from the Minster, in a quiet cul-de-sac. The staff were friendly, kind and spontaneously helpful. As a vegetarian the quality of the breakfast was way above what I usually get at a non-veggie hotel. And the beds were comfortable!
