“Excellent Budget Option, Near Wineries”
I have been going to the Shaw Festival for years, but in this economy, it's hard to justify those pricey B&B's and overpriced lunches-for-two...The campus offers a great alternative. It's close to many wineries, near the highway to the Canadian Falls, about a 20 minute drive from the Festival Theatre, and has a fridge, sink, and microwave that allow for mini-meals. My only real complaints: the breakfast was stark (tiny apples and oranges, toast, bagels, cream cheese, and beverages) and the bathroom has horrible lighting (had to plug two lamps into the bathroom to apply my makeup). I would definitely return--but would pack some peanut butter for my breakfast bagel. The bedss are cozy, the basic cable nice, and they accept pets.
“basic but clean”
This Residence is located on the Niagara College campus. There are only double beds but the price is good. The two bedrooms are very clean as is the bathroom. The front desk staff is very helpful and the included breakfast is good. They give you a coupon for free wine tasting on the campus. Plenty of free parking.
“Simple and good”
All that I wanted was a decent place to stay. It had two bedrooms a washroom and a small kitchen with microwave and fridge. Both bedrooms had cable connection and internet connection.
“will definately return”
We have stayed there 3 times already, and will definately return.
“Took a chance & glad we did”
We were looking for a reasonable place to stay on a visit to the Welland Canal and to the Shaw festival. We read the previous reviews and decided that for the price we couldn't go wrong. We were very pleased with this "hotel." It is a dorm during the school year that they rent out during the summer. There are two bedrooms in the suite, a bathroom and a kitchen area with a microwave, a full-size refridgerator and a table with chairs. Each bedroom has a double bed, a desk, and a TV. The price is for the suite. It was clean, quiet and very reasonably priced. Had everything we needed since we really didn't spend alot of time in the room. There is no common seating area, but we were fine watching TV in the bedrooms. The only inconvenient part of the set up of the bathroom. The lighting is dim (not great for applyiing makeup) and unlike most "real" hotels, the sink is not outside the bathroom so that someone can use that when the rest of the bathroom is in use. You can use the "kitchen" sink for tooth brushing. We did not try the breakfast, but it looked good. Apparently, several of the colleges in Ontario do this same thing during the summer. We definitely plan to check out other locations next summer. What a bargain, especially for families. If you want a fancy hotel with chocolates on the pillow, a pool, and extra pampering, this is not the place for you. If you want a clean, basic, comfortable place to stay for a very reasonable price, this is a great choice!
“Shaw Fest accommodation”
We stayed at the Niagara College residence which is close to the Skyway over the Welland canal at St. Catherines. The campus is focused on vitaculture and gardening and it is set in a semi rural area. The accommodation is arranged in clusters of two bedrooms and a common kitchen/bathroom We had a two person unit to ourselves. The room was clean and well maintained (including airconditioning/TV). The breakfast in the morning was good with bowls of fruit, hot/cold cereal, coffee/tea/juice, bread/bagels, etc. I would recommend this location for anyone on a budget attending the Shaw festival as Niagara-on-the-Lake is only about 20 minutes away via the Niagara Stone Road, through Virgil.
“Very nice location and close to everywhere!”
Nice place and comfortable talking about close and if you are willing to only sleep and visit around places it is very nice because is to close to the road of you want to go to Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls or Toronto.
“Niagara's best kept secret!”
This hotel is Niagara's best kept secret. Yes, it's NOT on the main drag, and YES, there's no pool....but if you need a safe, clean, decent place to stay, you can NOT beat the price. The fridge/freezer and microwave came in handy. Also: there is a laundry room for those who would like to pack light. The facility was clean, the breakfast was simple fare that is in any standard "free" breakfast. And actually, this was the freshest I've had in my travels this summer. Beds are a bit small, seem to be a standard bed so if you are a larger person, this could be an issue. If you need a hairdryer or iron however, plan to bring your own. We wish we had time to visit the student run winery, brewery, restuarant and greenhouse while there. We also liked that we were supporting an educational facility and students. We would most definately go back.
“Can't beat the Price”
If you like to stay away from the big cities this is the right place. It is a 20 minutes drive to Niagara Falls. Very relaxing and quiet. I was impressed with the condition and maintenance of the hotel since this is a student dormitory during the school year. The price is excellent.
“Good overnight stay”
Can't beat the price. Suite had kitchenette, bathroom, and two bedrooms each with TV and a double bed. Clean and basic, perfect for a brief overnight stay when you don't need hotels "extras" such as pool, spa, gyms etc. Continental breakfast offered a variety of goodies. Definitely a good deal.
