“Sumptuous”
I arrived with a reservation made on expedia. But, I accidentally reserved the wrong day. IT WAS NO PROBLEM; They were delightfully non-burocractic. The walk from the hotel, along the cliff, to the mansions, is delightful. The room was spectacular. The food at the restaurant was amongst the best dinners I have had anywhere in the world. The room rates were a bargain compared to Boston. We went in early May. This was a good time because there were relatively few people at the mansions we visited. By the way, you can't really visit more than two mansions, so don't buy tickets for more.
“New England Charmer”
I celebrated my 50th birthday at the Chanler Cliffwalk in Newport, RI, and would not have wanted to stay anywhere else. My husband and I are world travelers and decided to stay in the US and are very glad we did. The valet welcomed us by name before we even got out of the car. There was a wedding going on, but we were given 100% attention by all of the staff. The grounds, rooms and dining rooms are all gorgeous. The location is right on the water and at the beginning of cliffwalk. The valet drove us to our dinner at the 'more famous restaurant' down the road without even a moments notice (and the meal was not even as good as the Hotels' dining room the Spiced Pear). I would Very Highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Newport area!
“If you want luxury this is your spot”
The staff was amazing. They were polite and extremely helpful, accommodating etc. they even offered to let us continue to use their shuttle service after we checked out. Room was clean with a great view of the ocean and I don't think ive ever slept in a more comfortable bed. My only complaint was the in room continental breakfast was a bit lacking.
“An expensive hotel but without an experienced staff.”
This hotel needs a more experienced staff. They lacked knowledge of even the basic important information needed for a resort town like Newport, RI. It being off-season, they had no idea what mansions were opened, closed or being renovated. When receiving a map for the town itself, I was given one of those annoying ad-littered cartoon hand-outs. Not helpful. My room was booked through Expedia and when I was asked by the receptionist why I had booked the room I did, I told her it was because it was one of the 2 that Expedia still had available. Dispite that information, the hotel double-billed me for the room, their attempt now in dispute with my credit card company. The room had a lovely ocean view, but it faced the sunrise and there were no black-out curtains. I got up at 6 am, finding towels to drape over the windows so I could sleep for another hour. They seemed surprised when I complained about this. The bathroom was all-Jacuzzi. There was no place to set down cosmetics or toiletries. There was also a TV in the bathroom that, if you used the Jacuzzi, you would have been unable to see. Foolish. This was a disappointing stay. The staff needs more professionalism. I will not be returning.
