“I wish I could stay forever”
I fell in love with the Newcastle/Gateshead area. The Copthorne had a lot to do with that. The staff were exemplary, the service beyond compare. We were treated very kindly. The bartenders were very nice, even when being teased by "Yanks". I would recommend this hotel to anyone that asks! I wish we could go back tomorrow! Cheers...
“Nice in Newcastle”
Can't beat the location on the Quay. Newcastle is the go-to location for stag and hen parties in the UK. On weekends you can expect to see odd costumes and well-lubricated party folk about. Internet access is a bit strange. You can access it from the TV through your room at an exorbitant rate or buy a daily wireless access card for 2.50 pounds and use the wireless in the lobby. Much better than the typical European hotel hosing.
“newcastles finest!”
i was extremely pleased with all aspects of the hotel. great views, friendly staff, clean crisp rooms, and the pool and hot tub just tipped the scales. would love to go back.
“a very nice place to stay”
The room was picturesque, overlooking the river, and the hotel is very good. The restaurant hotel had an excellent prix fixe menu, but there were really no options for light food or an a la carte meal. Breakfast was not included, and is rather expensive for what was offered. The window admitted far too much sunlight, and there was no option to shield from this except to draw the very heavy shade and darken the whole room, a drawback of the architecture. Overall, I recommend this hotel.
“location and service”
The hotel was all we thought it would be and more. Fabulous view. Within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Would definately go back.
“Will go back”
This is a very attractive hotel on Newcastle's Quayside with helpful, friendly staff and a good buffet breakfast. For those without mobility problems, it's less than ten minutes' walk from the railway station, down a fairly steep hill - fine going down, not quite so fine coming back up! The only slight niggles we had were an unnecessarily complicated closing mechanism on the window, and difficulties adjusting the air conditioning, but the room was spotless and beautifully decorated. An unexpected bonus was that we were able to get into it when we arrived at midday.
“fantastic everytime”
The only thing i would say the hotel needs to address would be the bathrooms- they are in need of soom decoration.
“Could do better”
The hotel is in an excellent location on the quayside and the room was large, comfortable and had a great view. Staff were very pleasant and helpful but breakfast was a shambles. It was Saturday morning, 45 minutes before the end of the breakfast period and whilst the dining room was half empty we were told we had to wait for tables to be set up. We waited 15 minutes. We had to find staff to ask for coffee, tea spoons and bread. The "hot" buffet was luke warm. I hope it was just a bad day!
“Great location, great view.”
Love the location of the hotel. Nice lobby. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were spacious, however could use new carpeting as there were a few stains in them. We also dined in the hotel restaurant. Service was poor. It took very long to get our food, however they offered us complementary drinks due to the long wait.
“It was OK. Very happy with location but disappointed by state of bathroom.”
I like the location, a short walk away from the Millenium Bridge, The Baltic, Sage, waterfront bars / restaurants and City Centre. All rooms overlook the Tyne and whilst the view on the opposite bank isn't great, I like water. The reception area, dining room, bar and bedroom are all fine and spacious. Staff were great. The one thing that disappointed me, especially given the status of the hotel, was the bathroom where there was black mould around the bath edges and dirt around the extractor outlet - a clean bathroom is a key indicator in my book.
