“Excellent Value”
We just got back from a 5 day stay at The Verve and i thought it was unbelievable what great value it was. People are unhappy with the location but its a 5 minute walk from the metro which my Fiance and I used morning, day and late at night and never had a problem. It has security cameras and there is always a lot of people around so you never feel intimidated or alone. The walk to the Metro is on open busy streets and very easy to find and as mentioned, just round the corner from the hotel. $2 will take you straight into Manhattan or you can pay $7.50 for a day unlimited use or $25 for a weeks unlimited. The Verve as everyone mentioned is a very well maintained hotel with large rooms, flat screen tv and satellite. The complimentary breakfast was excellent to feed you up for a days shopping. The only tiny bad thing i can say about the hotel is the excercise room is literally a room with a excercise bike and a treadmill...but when your walking round Manhattan all day, who needs more excercise. I have and will recommend this hotel to anyone, you will save a lot of money staying here and using Metro rather than staying in a hotel in Manhattan
“" Long Island City Jewel "”
The staff was great and always helpful. The surrounding neighborhoods are full of neat little restaurants with great food and diversity. I felt totally secure my entire stay. The hotel is not located where you would expect, but the location is great, in a really neat neighborhood. You cross the 59th. street bridge and you're in Manhatten. Subways close to the hotel. The ride from La Guardia is only 15 minutes to the hotel, 5 miles. Stay at the Verve on your next trip to NYC, you won't regret it.
“Best Choice for Manhattan on a Budget”
I found this hotel after becoming discouraged by the exorbitant prices of Manhattan hotels. A five-minute subway ride across the river, this clean, comfortable hotel was half the price of any decent hotel I could find in Manhattan. The neighborhood is a bit empty on weekends, but is safe, and well-lit at night - my wife and I never felt uncomfortable walking the two blocks from the train station back to the hotel in the evening. The front-desk staff were friendly and helpful, the bed was large and comfortable, and the room had a big flat-screen TV and a fridge. It was the perfect spot to come back to after a long day of walking around the city.
“Clarion Collection”
I thought that the hotel itself was great...but I don't think I will stay in Queens next time. There's not much to there breakfeat but it's a nice snack to start off your morning. There was also no food vending in the hotel but the guy at the front desk gave me some fruit and things from the dinning area witch I thought was very nice of him.
“VERY NICE PLACE TO STAY WITH YOUR KIDS”
It was our first time at NYC. Me and my husband and my two kids stayed 4 nights at the hotel. It was a 5 minit walking distance to the subway and the subway ride to the downtown was approx 10 minits. The hotel was very welcoming, clean and the staff at the reception were very helpful. The breakfast was a very good one too. The neighbourhood was ok. We walked back to the hotel really late but did not feel threatened. There is basement car park for a minimal charge. We will deffinetly stay again.
“Brilliant Place to Stay...”
My girlfriend and I recently got back from a six night stay at the Verve. The hotel definitely lived up to all our expectations! The room was clean, the service was friendly, and the breakfast was a good way to start the day. The wi-fi worked perfectly each time also. Our room even had a view of Manhattan which was quite spectacular! I was a little concerned about the location of the Hotel after reading all the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised about the hotel's surroundings. There is a high school right across the street, a corner store down the road and a few diners in the immediate area. I would say the area is definitely closer to a residential area than industrial. The subway is easily accessible and you can be in Times Square 15 minutes after leaving your hotel room. We found the 39th Avenue station to be the most easily accessible but the Queensboro Plaza station was also close. We cabbed from Manhattan late at night and found the majority of cabbies knew how to get there. Don't just say "Verve Hotel", say "we are going to the Verve hotel at the corner of 40th Ave and 29th street in Long Island City." Also add, "take the Queensboro bridge and get off on 21st street". The cab ride should cost no more than $15 dollars, unless you are going right during rush hour. Any cabbie who tells you he cannot get there with those directions simply does not want to take you (they cannot refuse any trip within the five boroughs.).
“Excellent alternative to expensive Manhattan hotels”
The Verve has a justified reputation as the best small hotel in Queens. Located between two nearby subway stops, it's just across the East River in the Long Island City neighborhood. The hotel provides many amenities, incl. in-room refrigerator, safe, wall-mounted TV and quality furnishings. With five soft pillows and a comfortable bed, good rest is assured. Complimentary breakfast, 3 available computers, and all-night coffee self-service are some of its other features. Staff is very helpful and can provide transportation options. Restaurants are plentiful farther north on 36th and at the N-line's final stop on Ditmars Avenue; suggest Latin or Greek because those neighborhoods are distinctive for their cuisine. Only serious complaint might be about noise - not just the steady rattle of the subway a couple of blocks away, but also because the lobby is open 24 hrs/day and some guests don't seem to understand that rumbling in at midnight may wake others. Breakfast is varied and plentiful, but bakery goods seem day-old and the popular waffle irons may yearn for a better waffle batter.
