9 happy days in New York

Posted 14-Apr-2014
Pros: Good facilities, very clean, large rooms, in a quiet area.
Cons: We were happy with everything.
Location: See above
My daughter and I have just spent 9 happy days in New York. Everything went very smoothly. We were a little shocked at the size of the 'plane we travelled in, having never crossed the pond in one so small ( 3 seats on either side of a very narrow aisle), However it transported us there safely which is all that is needed I suppose. We stayed at the Wall Street Inn. It is a lovely wee hotel, spacious and very clean, the rooms and bathrooms are large compared to most NYC hotels. It provides a 24/7 supply of hot drinks and pastries and at breakfast time they also offer boiled eggs, bagels, croissants, peanut butter, cream cheese and jam more than enough to set you up for the day. It is situated in lower Manhattan , in the financial district close to the new Freedom towers, Battery Park and the pick up point for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We were quite far out from mid town but we purchased a weekly subway pass for 30 dollars that gave us unlimited travel for the week. It was easy to use and we felt safe travelling on the subway which was bright and clean. One small drawback, because we were staying in the financial district at the weekend most diners, cafes etc did not open until 11 am as the bulk of their customers are the workforce and do not work at weekends. We had a great time. We are aged 65 and 32 so it is suitable for all ages. .

Nice, clean, comfortable hotel in great location.

Great access to subways and in quiet (for New York!) location. However, it isn't a long journey on subway to any of the big attractions. Great restaurants and bars nearby and a wonderful patisserie behind it. Would definitely recommend.

Nice, clean hotel

Posted 6-Apr-2014
Pros: Free WIFI, complimentary breakfast, close to subway lines.
Cons: Some rooms are a little small for two people.
Location: Close to subway lines. Many good restaurants and bars just behind the hotel. The Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry, Wall St., Brooklyn.
The front desk employees could have been a little friendlier, but overall my stay was pleasant. The room and bathroom were clean. Free WIFI was great. The complimentary breakfast was better than expected. The cleaning staff was courteous and friendly. This was my first time staying in the financial district and based on this experience, I would do it again. There are multiple subway lines just blocks away. If you like Brooklyn, it's just minutes away by train. There's a variety of good and affordable restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, also pharmacies, shops, and many tourist attractions.

Great, reasonably priced hotel

Posted 14-Mar-2014
I was a bit dubious about booking this Hotel as usually reasonably priced hotels in NYC tend to be either poor quality or tiny rooms. However I'd find it hard to fault the Wall Street Inn as the room was great with a large comfortable bed and a very nice bathroom. Also it has several sensible details like USB power outlets etc. Totally recommended

Tired hotel needs updating, with plumbing issues

Posted 1-Mar-2014
Pros: location was near my meeting, that's about it
Cons: cleanliness, staff, wireless, plumbing and smell
Location: wall street, battery park, 9/11 memorial
The first room smelled of sewage, even in the bedroom. At first, the hotel staff wanted to "have housecleaning check it out," but a nicer staff member gave me a 2nd room. The 2nd room had a toilet that wouldn't stop running. I tried to fix it myself, but was unable to do so. The staff had it fixed when I returned. I continued to note a bad smell in the elevator, but the room smelled fine. The room was very cold; I tried to turn up the thermostat but was only able to adjust the fan to blowing cold air harder or slower or turn off. The bathroom was icey cold, but I wasn't spending too long in there anyway. The carpet and items in the room seemed old and not too clean. I had asked if the new room was quiet. The response was: yes, except in the summertime. When I was in the room at night I discovered why. The back of the hotel is juxtaposed with a bar with noisy people on the street. Wireless never worked; in the morning I told the front desk. They blamed it on Time Warner (although it hadn't worked the night before either). I told them the Downtown Free Wi-fi alliance was working fortunately. Breakfast is fine, though minimum continental, no major efforts for this hotel. Price was expensive, so will stay at another hotel next time!
