Bumped for migrants.
We booked our hotel months in advance. However, when we arrived, the hotel had been taken over by the state to house migrants that were shipped there from elsewhere in the country. We were never informed. We were told that we were contacted, but that was not the case. Our stay was meant to be within a few blocks of our destinations. However, we were re-booked at a hotel 16 blocks away. We would have spent the entire trip in a cab or walking for hours. When I asked for a refund, I was told that I couldn't receive one because it was within 24 hours of our scheduled arrival. Again, nothing was ever sent to us detailing what was happening. I am very disappointed and will never attempt staying at the hotel again.

Be aware of this hotel, they decided 3 days before my trip they would not honor our reservation. So we had to find another option last minute. Very unprofessional and inconvenient so last minute

The location and price of the property compared to others in the same area shows high value. The rooms are clean. Rooms are small, but everything one needs is present. Staff forget to give towels, floor mats and blankets. Had to request twice, but very responsive to requests. Check in and check-out were easy. Staff was always friendly. I would recommend booking an executive room to have more space, and request a room with a view.

A good place to stay if you just need a to crash at the end of a day of site seeing. Conveniently located but showing some wear and with few amenities. The windows to our room wouldn't close fully which allowed a lot of noise in from the street and one of the three elevators was out of service for the duration of our stay. Overall though the location is great, right next to Times Square, walking distance from a lot of popular attractions and there's a decent amount of restaurant options nearby.

This property was at a really nice location. The staff was friendly and let us check in early. Our room had a lot of hair in the bathroom upon check in and we saw quite a few cockroaches. After our first night out we came back in and flipped on the light and saw one scramble across the table. After that we saw 5 more between the bathroom and bedroom areas. The room was kinda cramped but we kind of expected that with a New York hotel. The elevators are very small and one was broke down the whole time we were there. There aren’t any amenities and no fridge in the room. There is a restaurant on one side and lounge on the other.

Excellent location in the heart of Times Square. Large rooms in comparison to other places we’ve stayed at in New York. Comfortable beds. Rooms are dark though, lighting isn’t great. No views from our particular rooms but staff are fabulous!

Kind Staff. Close To Everything.
When we arrived in the city, we stopped to ask if we could stow our bags. The gentleman at the desk was very kind and even checked to see if our room was ready. The room was not ready (but we were super early) but they let us drop our bags. The room was much bigger than I anticipated and it was so close to our theater and other tourist attractions. We would stay here again.

Great location. Room is a bit outdated but doable for brief stay. The bed only came with sheets so after one night of being cold I requested another blanket and slept much better. Staff was very friendly.

Small hotel French Restuarant across street- breakfast to dinner, Virgil’s down the street Barbeque, Longroom next door pub. Rooms are in older building. Well maintained let us check out at 2 as our taxi arrived to take us airport. Very clean bathroom good sized. Only 1 cup Hamilton beach coffee maker. With CUps coffee & tea sugar screa etc. it worked. Jonathan greeted us at Checkin smooth. Tiny elevators but the worked overall great time

The location of Hotel Mela is excellent, the Times Square is just a 2 minutes walk. There are many bars, restaurants, shops around. We walked to many famous spots, super convenient. Since it is at the center of Midtown, it is safer to go back to the hotel a bit later, say 10:30pm or 11:00pm. The staff are friendly and ready to give helps. Alan helped us to upgrade to a larger room making our stay at New York more comfortable. The room is clean. Amy gave us her sweet smile every time she came to clean the room. Jo Jo was very kind to arrange our transportation to the airport. The room is not very big, but it is New York, totally understandable. There is a small coffee machine, I used it to make an instant coffee everyday. There is a safe in the room to keep our laptop and other important things. The Wi-Fi is fast and free (Some 5 star hotels ask for extra fee for Wi-Fi). The wardrobe is big enough to hang our clothes, and a couple of drawers to keep other things. The queen bed is big enough and comfortable. Since everyday we were busy visiting famous spots outside, the room and the services provided have met our requirements: a clean room, comfortable bed, hot water shower, fast Wi-Fi, self-made instant coffee, and friendly staff. To improve: the reception hotline had better extend to 7*24 mode; A brochure of brief introduction of Mela and New York; Replace paper cup to glass cup if possible. Add thick glasses of window to avoid the noise outside. Thanks !

The first night was rough as we were given a superior queen room that didn’t have a desk for us to work remotely. The AC didn’t work and the phone didn’t work either so had to go down to the front desk to report all the problems. The staff kindly switched us to a different room with full size bed and a desk. Facility is very limited in this hotel (just small lobby and no others) but the location (one block away from Times Square) is unbeatable. Would recommend for adult groups but not for family with small children as the room size is small as clearly stated on the Expedia page.

The hotel is not a 4 star hotel as it is on your site. Very disappointed. The hotel room smelled of mold and dirt. The bsthroom more then the room. The furnisher was also very dirty and old looking. The chair looked as if it was taken out of a dumpster. The elevators in the building took 10 minutes to come. The bedding was thin and see through. The towels scratchy.On a better note. The A/C worked great and the bed was comfortable. Only stayed one night so it was torable. For the price this was not a great deal at all.

Thank you Hotel Mela, my daughter and I felt safe and location was extremely convenient. Room was descent, we had hot water and AC was great. Jojo offered to keep our luggage while we went for breakfast, came back and we didn't want to leave. Definitely going back. Its not a lavish hotel, don't expect fancy, expect convenience with friendly staff to greet you at the door.

Stay for the location, little else to offer
Hotel Mela's biggest advantage is the location. It is so conveniently located for anyone who wants to spend their time in the theater district. It's also a short walk to multiple subway locations, so that was nice, too. Beyond location, the hotel was mostly so-so. The service at the front desk was inconsistent. Some folks were incredibly nice, others were quite unhelpful. The room itself smelled weird, and there wasn't anything special about it. But everything worked fine, and I did appreciate that. The furniture was sort of falling apart. The elevators were at times hard to catch, but that's not unheard of in NYC. The TV did provide good enough channels! And the wifi seemed to work well. While the bathroom wasn't particularly nice, it was clean and the water pressure was good. The towels were pretty pitiful though.
