New York Hotel

Posted 29-Aug-2014
We had a great holiday and the hotel was in a good location to get around New York. Would have liked tea and coffee making facilities within the room rather than having to go down to the business centre on the ground floor. Air con unit very noisy, although did the job, but also disrupted sleeping. Had a room with 2 double beds to accomodate the family which was very spacious with a large bathroom. Overall though a good hotel with friendly staff.

Beautiful building...furnishings run down

Posted 27-Aug-2014
The hotel itself left me with a great feeling- great staff and the building has so much character. Had the best night sleep there I've ever had in NYC which is hard to get in the noisy Murray Hill neighborhood! The only downside is that the furnishing in my room were very run down. The bed runner was pilling, the desk was chipped, the chair leather was torn...just run down. I was able to overlook these flaws, however, and enjoyed my stay. The lobby is gorgeous, and the buildin is beautiful itself, just the old/broken room furnishings need to be replaced.

Very good value

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: My room was comfortable, the staff at the reception and the concierge were good.
Cons: I really had a problem with the airconditioning, although there was a control panel. It was blowing like crazy (but I did not call for help)
Location: Very close to a subway stop, but also one block away from 5th Ave.
Nice hotel at a good location if you want to take in the sights of the city. Although I came prepared for the trip, the concierge was very helpful in giving me the right advice and the proper directions. The staff in general was very friendly, including the housekeepîng staff, but I do not recommend the breakfast, food was terrible and staff totally unfriendly (why does nobody wish you a good day as you enter?).

Sleeping in the closet

Posted 7-Aug-2014
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Check in times, room size and comfort, the room was very uncomfortable.
Location: The location is okay, although the subway stop near it is being worked on.
First of all, I had a conference to attend and was scheduled with agenda items from noon until 10 pm, I called the day before to request an early check in and was told I had to call the same day. If you don't know, their check in time is 3 pm. I called that morning, was asked my name and put on hold, when they saw my expedia reservation I was told that I could not check in early but could keep calling to see if anything was available. I went to the hotel at 11 am and asked in person explaining I wanted to just freshen up a bit and drop my bags, they told me I couldn't check in until 3pm but they'd hold my bags. This ruined my entire day stressing over getting into the hotel not having a place to relax, checking in so late, it was very frustrating. When I finally did check in, they gave me a very small room, seriously the size of a walk in closet with a shower in the corner, for the price I paid I could have stayed at a much better hotel.

Dear Tim, sorry to see that your stay was less than pleasant. We make every effort to accommodate early check-ins, which at times can be difficult depending on our occupancy the night before. Again, please accept our apologies for not being able to meet your expectations during this stay. Sincerely Vic Freeman

Good location

Posted 6-Aug-2014
Pros: The location
Cons: Tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a ramp by the entrance for luggage as we had to carry it up and down a marble staircase.
Location: Near the Empire State Building
The bedroom was very small with an enormous bathroom. Very small window that we couldn't open even though we were on the 8th floor. Felt very claustrophobic. Disappointed that for a 4 star hotel there was no tea/coffee making facilities so we had to get dressed each morning to get a drink. Although we put the do not disturb sign on the door this was ignored by cleaning staff on both mornings we were there.

Great Hotel

Posted 5-Aug-2014
We have stayed at these magnificent hotel on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The location is within walking distance to the Flatiron Buiilding and Madison Park where there is the fabulous Shake Shack( expect long lines) and Eataly Food Hall. It is also within easy walking distance to the Empire State building and Macy's. The subway is less than a block from the Carlton. The beds and linens are luxurious. The hotel is sophisticated without being stuffy.
