“Overall good, but needs so work on details.”

Overall our experience was good. The service of the bell staff, concierge and housekeeping was very good, especially the young man who came to make up the sofa bed for our son. While the front desk manager could not help with the problem with the TV continually going off (his only solution was to wait for the maintenance man the next day) the young man from housekeeping not only took care of the bed but also went the extra mile to look at the TV and find that the power supply was loose and fixed it. The "welcome home" from the bellmen each time we returned and their super service went a long wayas well.

Getting there
May be our last time to us Spirit Airline. The lack of courtesy and service of the on plane staff was only exceeded by the gate crew in New York.

“Great location in Mid-town”

Most people don't spend a lot of time in their hotel rooms while in NYC, which is good if you're staying at the Affinia 50. It's not bad - just not all that great. But, the location is perfect for accessing all the mid-town tourist spots and restaurants; plus it's a breeze to ride the subway or catch a cab from there. The staff is very friendly and helpful - went out of their way to help me with several things during my stay. But, there were some problems: the room were overly warm and not able to be controlled with the thermostat - had to sleep with the windows open. The items we used from the refrigerator were never replenished. And the bathroom is like a closet - kinda hard in a suite configuration with 2 women and 2 kids. The Club Level has nothing but water and coffee and couches - no snacks, etc. I'd go back here, but only for the location.

Events and shows
Go see the Radio City Rockettes Holiday Show if you can. Awesome!

“Excellent overnight girlfriend getaway.”

Stayed overnight on a girlfriend getaway to NYC. Highly recommend the junior suite. Well-appointed, attractive room, comfortable queen beds. Nice seating area, generous desk and convenient kitchen facilities. 2nd floor concierge/lounge wih free coffee was a surprising bonus as main lobby area is minimal. Midtown location can't be beat. Pleasant desk staff. Definitely recommend and plan to return.

Area recommendations
Everywhere...it's New York! If you're a first timer, stick with midtown, take a tour and see the highlights. If weather permits take the 90minute harbor cruise or the 2 hour Circle Line cruise around Manhattan. Then plan your next trip and focus on one or two new neighborhoods per visit -- they each have unique charms. Keep your eyes open, look up and notice the fabulous architecture--old and new. Soak it up and enjoy!
Getting around
Carry a water bottle to stay hydrated. Keep a map that shows hotels in every neighborhood so you can easily find a restroom.

loved Affinia, except for the busy traffic noise. I was on the 7th flr and it was quite loud.

“Will recommend and use Affinia 50 when we return to NYC”

Just a few blocks to 5th Ave. Bus service right at the door. Subway available 1 block north on 3rd Ave. Good restaurants, delis and convenience stores within easy walking. We weill probably drive the next time as parking was just across the street. Having the conveneince of the kitchen was great. Wifi in the clubroom on the 2nd floor was not inconvenient, that's where the complimentary coffee & tea were. The staff were very courteous and attentive to our needs. Can't find a fault with the Affinia 50

Area recommendations
For shopping, we liked uptown, from Macy's 33rd St +/- north. The stores were nicer and the street vendors had better quality, selection & prices than Chinatown and the "downtown" stores. Take a "hop on hop off" tour, then purchase a NYC transit card and do the sites.
When to go
USA Thanksgiving is always a magical time in NYC.
Dining
We ate in restaurants and delis "uptown". Great food, good value. Asro Deli, Junior's Eatery, Carnegie Deli, Lasagna Italian Restaurant, Angelo's Pizza, Devon & Blakely 3rd Ave & E49 St.
Events and shows
Radio City Music Hall, the Rockettes, probably the best deal in town.

“Good location for midtown NYC”

Good location for mid town, easy walk to many locations and close to subway stops. Hotel staff was terrific, very responsive to all our requests--stopped drain I shower, extra blankets, and special pillows. All were friendly , professional, and helpful. The concierge was very knowledgeable and gave us great advice on travel plans and restaurants. Our only complaint was the construction taking during the night-- it was very loud and disturbing. The windows did not really keep out any noise. Earplugs solved this for the remaining nights we stayed.

Area recommendations
We went to see the thanksgiving day parade. We also shopped the 5th ave area, toured memorial and historic sites, and saw broadway shows.

Great price and a great location. We really enjoyed the Manhattan experience - easy walking distance to Rockefeller Center and subway, all kinds of restaurants (and prices), and shopping.

“Had a great experience!”

Hotel was very clean, service was great and surrounded by awesome restaurants. Essa's bagles a must in the morning. PJ Clarks fantanstic burgers and more. This is a perfect hotel because it is only a few blocks from the very busy area so you can go back to your hotel and relax. Lot's of taxis if you need one and nice to get out of the bustling street to a nice calm night. Great with kids because Suite was very large and easily accomodating for our family of six.

“Not What I Expected”

The Affinia 50 has been our hotel of choice for the past 4 years. I love the spacious clean rooms and comfy beds not to mention great location. Most of all however, the friendly customer service at the front desk and business center made the stay so enjoyable that we kept coming back. This most recent visit was a disaster. We arrived at 10:00am to check in and to deposit our luggage with the concierge. I was not surprised to learn that our room was not ready since it was early. I left my cell number and expected a call around 2pm. By 4:30pm -- with no phone call, we returned to the hotel only to learn they had no record of our checking in nor our cell number, blaming it on the front desk crew working the morning shift. After much delay, we were given a room with no apology. The room technically was fine, except that the thermostat did not work and if you like sleeping with 80 degree heat, then this is the room for you! Not a great experience!

“Great midtown Manhattan hotel”

I chose the Affinia 50 hotel due to its proximity to the location of my conference in midtown Manhattan. Based on the nightly rates compared to surrounding hotels I was expecting an overpriced rattrap. To my surprise, however, it was an extremely nice hotel with an excellent staff who made me feel at home. The room was exceedingly comfortable, the staff courteous, and the surrounding area was safe.
