An unusual hotel. It's a five minute walk to the Archeological Museum and then again into the centre of the historic part of Naples. About half an hour to walk down to the harbour area. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was VERY firm. Basic continental breakfast of a morning. Kettles available in the room on request. Nearest restaurants/bars are in Piazza Bellini (10 minutes). Plenty of snack bars around Naples during the day.

We´ll be back!!!
Staying in Le Stanze del Vicere we experienced a very familiar atmosphere face-to-face. There was always time for a short chat with Senior Maxim and Signora Pina. And every day we also got some support in italian and neapolitan language. All in all a very relaxed atmosphere!

OK Hotel
Overall, Naples is on a very low class side so don't be surprised by the surroundings. We enjoyed our stay but at first glance the hotel was disappointing. Room was authentic. Bathroom big but mould on the ceiling, bath leaked badly and the toilet was not cleaned properly. Minimal breakfast. Very friendly staff which is the most important thing! The man at the desk (there all the time) helped us with a taxi to the airport and looked after us very well.

Not what you expect, in a good way!
I were very pleased with our stay there. I was a little skeptical when I saw the gate. But Maxine greats you and your hear the story of the building and go in it is nothing else but a good surprise. Maxime the manager runs the hotel a lovely man that accommodate what we needed since we were just staying for one night. It is a historical building from the 1700 and full of character with frescos ceilings original doors etc. But the room and bathrooms are quite modern and cozy. Only things I would reccomend if you have mobility issues is not suitable it is a 3 flight walk up other than that. Nice!

I have stayed here about 5 times and simply love the place. You'll find modern elegance and comfort in an historic crumbling palazzo (check out the Vanvitelli designed staircase). Service is second to none.

Awesome little spot
Le Stance is not much to look at from the outside and walking up Via Stella from the metro, you begin to think you made the wrong choice. Just when you think you passed it, there it is. Max buzzes open the gate and you ascend what was once a beautiful staircase in a famous home. Once inside, everything changes. You walk out of the mess that is Napoli in to modern rooms with beautiful beds and fantastic bathrooms. Max is a very nice host and sees to your every need. We did take a taxi back from the city each night as Via Stella was not a road we wanted to walk up after dark. A taxi from the port costs around 15€

Nice Hotel
The hotel and staff were great. I would recommend getting dropped off close to the hotel as the roads are a little steep and the hotel has a lot of stairs, it can get a bit hard carrying your suitcase but if you have just a backpack or something of the similar you will be fine.

Beautiful and good value for money
The hotel was once a palazzo so tall ceilings, elegant breakfast room etc. It was spotlessly clean and Max, the manager, was very helpful and spoke several languages. The neighbourhood may not be the best but the hotel is secure and close to Museo tube (which we only used twice - the rest of the time it is as easy to walk down to Piazza Dante) and there was a great restaurant nearby. I'd definitely stay here again.

Just ok
A second stay due to our flight out of Italy prompted us to choose this B & B. The many steps are a lot yet we did have help from the staff. The A/C worked great but was noisy, although we were thankful for it. We had a deep tub with a shower included, however we ended up with water all over the floor. Not sure why as there was a shield. All in all, it was fine, however Naples is not the nicest in this area.

lock and key
Beautiful room on a safe street, despite its bustling nature. We were a little put off about the key situation - Max, the owner, holds the keys while you are out even at night time which would make us feel bad about how late (if so) we stayed out. He insisted he didn't mind staying up and waiting for us but it made us uncomfortable. Other b&bs that do this usually have a 24hr open desk. Otherwise, highly recommend.

2star boutique hotel; a joke!
How can this hotel is marked 5 or even 4 stars? 2 would be maximum, when you travel around and go to real 4 stars. They are palaces comparing. You must not go there if you have bad knees or back. It is very high up in a derelict house and stair case. The hotel is called a boutique hotel; if one knows what is a real boutique hotel, it is a joke really. Reception tiny, messy, no maps no tourist documentation, extremely basic. The host was ok.

Interesting little hotel
Staff are very nice and approachable in a fairly lively town. If you've not been to Naples before or don't know the area I highly advise using Google Maps and having a read about it as it could come as a bit of a surprise based on your expectations! That said after you get over the initial surprise, I never felt unsafe in Naples and it does have a certain charm. The hotel is well located for the Museum which is well worth a look if you are going to Herculaneum and / or Pompeii. As a couple of people have mentioned there are some very good 'local' pizzeria /Osteria, Max can point you in the right direction! If you are getting a taxi from the airport, get the price agreed before leaving!! You can get the metro to the Museo Piazza Cavour stop and walk up the hill but it is quite a walk up hill with cases.... If you are going to leave your room key in the hotel then use the hotel safe just in case! My advise with Italy in general would be take your time and remember it might not be quite like home! For instance a credit or debit card is a strange and unusual thing even when trying to buy things for official government sources.....

Great hotel in a nice area
The hotel is located quite close to (metro) station Cavour, about 5 minutes walk. The hotel staff is very friendly, fluent English and Dutch and the rooms are cleaned daily so overall it really is a very good hotel. Napoli has a bad reputation but we stayed 11 days and had no problems what so ever. The area around the main station is not that bad as well, just be a little vigilant. Breakfast at the hotel was nice and if you need any help with directions just ask the hotel manager or indeed any Neapolitan and they are very happy to help. From the main station take a metro or train to Cavour and go through a little park. Just before the park ends on your right is Via Stella.

Location in middle of everything
We had a wonderful time at this hotel. Maxim was the best manager ever. We stayed there for 4 nts and were able to get to Capri, Herculaneum, Pompeii, Amalfi coast (use SITA bus in Sorrento) easily. Our luggage didn't show up for 4 days & Maxim went out of his way to help retrieve it. First impression when you arrive was a little frightening but hotel was beautiful old palace. We are 2 women who never felt uneasy about area. Excellent pizza right on same street, Starita Pizza. Always long line out front so we ordered to go & it was ready in 4 min. Then took back to hotel & ate in dining room. I will stay there again if in Naples. Maxim was a jewel! Very informative, helpful & entertaining.

Surprising find in historic Napoli
Naples is like marmite. You love it or hate it...and we loved it. Look beyond the noise and grime and discover layers of amazing history back to the time of the Greeks. Naples is a city that demands to be explored. Venture along and beneath its web of tiny streets and be amazed.

Small quirky hotel behind the museum
Run by Max and his helper - only 6 rooms and up two floors of a 16thC building. Max fills you in on the history of the building and helps out with local info. Basic but fine breakfast, aircon and lots of hot water - all great.

You need to come inside to appreciate it
Driving up to the hotel, first time in Naples it is a shock as the area is littered with garbage and the building is very old. You need to be fit to carry luggage up the many steps to arrive at the boutique hotel lobby. Only six rooms, all modernized and well kept by the housekeeper and manager. Breakfast provided either in the courtyard or large modern common room. Ceilings are fresco from when this was a Count's palace in 1700's. View of the street you can watch the comings and goings in a small area of Napoli. Close to restaurants and museum. A gem. Grazie.

Beautiful Hotel Near Museo Archeologico Nazionale
Naples is a hard city for some people to get use to, it's unlike any city I have been too. But I wanted to go to see the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, and Le Stanze was a perfect place to stay at. The hotel is well maintained by the owner, who is also really helpful (he walked us to a great restaurant the night we stayed). The room we stayed in was probably the nicest we had during our week long trip to Italy. Very modern bathroom, and really comfortable beds. Most of the place has been modernized, except for the stunning dinning room. The period ceiling paintings really are beautiful. My only complaint is that the place is a little hard to find on arrival, as you have to get buzzed into from the street. The hotel takes up one floor in a huge apartment complex. So you also have to walk up a few flights of well worn stairs to get to the hotel. The surrounding neighborhood seemed safe, though it's so hard to tell in Naples. This place has the perfect combination of old world charm, and modern convinces. I would definitely suggest this place for anyone staying in Naples.

Beautiful atypical hotel run by lovely people
The location is perfect, a 10 minute walk from the historic centre, and in the middle of a bustling, typically Neapolitan neighbourhood. Our room backed on to a tranquil garden. The building is beautiful, the rooms very large and comfortable with excellent air con. We even had a jacuzzi bath! We ate breakfast in the garden or in the beautifully decorated breakfast room. Max was friendly, helpful and always obliging (especially with early check-in and late check-out). Overall excellent value and a truly great place to stay - thank you! Highly recommended if you prefer character and charm over the big impersonal hotel chains.

Peaceful haven in Naples
This hotel is located on a narrow side street just off one of the major roads in Naples. The entrance and stairway might put off many people but you soon realise this is part of the hotel's charm. Rooms are very comfortable and quiet. Note, you need to use stairs and will need to be given a key to get in and out of the building.

A big surprise
We were a little scared about the neighbourhood when our cab dropped us off. But once we met Maxim and the primary housekeeper (Pina sp.?) we felt so much better. They went the extra mile with Maxim literally walking us to a restaurant for dinner! The room was great, very modern and with a great common room for the guests to share. Quite a unique hotel, great service and close to the Museum of Archaelogy and a beautiful cathedral, the Chiesi Cathedrale di Napoli, just off the Via del Fiore. It's an amazing building and a must see. Sadly we only had one night in Naples and could have used another. Thanks Maxim for helping us meet our 4 am cab for the airport!

Our stay in Naples!
One should be ready for a unique experience when staying in this hotel. It has only five rooms, I believe, and is really labeley a Bed & Breakfast. When arriving, one is on a one way street so the taxi is blocking traffic when unloading and loading you and your luggage. Entry to the hotel is through a large steel door which is always closed and locked, so it's necessary to ring the front desk upstairs for someone to come down, unlock the door to let you in, and then assist you with your luggage up the stairs and into the small reception area. Maxim, the only real employee other than the maid, is very helpful. The building where the hotel is located is an older, elegant building once belonging to a Viscount or someone important. The hotel just occupies a part of one floor. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The breakfasts, which are included, are just average, with a small selection of items available. Also, there is no restaurant, so it's necessary to go out for all food item after the breakfast is served. Usually the guests are out sightseeing so this is not a major problem. I would stay at this hotel again, mostly because Maxim and the lady at breakfast, who is also the maid, are so courteous and helpful. They add so much to the facility.

I've stayed at Le Stanze del Vicere' 3 times, and I can't say I feel any need to try another hotel. This place is one of a kind. Unique Naples experience in historic gem
This lovely renovated hotel on the third story of a 17th century gem is deceiving from the exterior however a real delight. We enjoyed our four days in Naples and found the location ideal for our daily excursions around the city. We walked to the train station with ease. Maxime, the manager, and Piña, his assistant, were very welcoming and helpful. Both take a personal interest in guests' comfort, in preparing simple but adequate breakfasts, ensuring clean and comfortable, well-appointed rooms, and giving great advice on best local eateries. Max was always very helpful and a pleasure to visit with. Museums and trains are within walking distance. Food outstanding. Archeological Museum jaw-dropping amazing! Naples drivers are kamikaze-trained; traffic lights and stop signs are pure ornamentation and generally ignored--this is true in most areas of the city.

Lovely old building with modern rooms
I loved the old building and view for the courtyard. But not the modern floors(husband liked them). Room was clean, but floor broken, shower blocked, wi-fi slow or non-existent, no kettle provided un-like advertised. Breakfast was ok and in a nice dining room. Manager really friendly and talkative, which was great after so many no-English speaking receptionist we had encountered on our holiday so far. but once we were left outside and couldnt come in because nobody opened the door. The nearby archeological museum was great and also old city is close by.
