“Hotel w100 yards from the railroad station and just fine!”

You can see it immediately in the square as you exit the terminal. The staff were great--we were in a railway mixup that meant 6hours on the train from Rome and we called ahead to Ideal--no problem--then the next day the desk clerks made sure our reservations for Pompeii were confirmed and made sure we had the meeting place clear on a map--just going the extra mile every day for us. Breakfast was simple but ample; there was no coffee urn, so you need to request extra coffee if you need it--it isn't the hotel's fault that Garibaldi square is a little iffy after dark, but the room had a balcony and we enjoyed looking at all the activity even if it was too cold to sit out there. As in all hotels in Europe this past year, decreasing the laundry and conserving supplies is always appreciated. We will stay here again when we return to Pompeii.

“Hotel Ideal is Almost Perfect!”

The Hotel Ideal is located very near the train station in Naples which is so convenient. My single room was freshly painted and the bathroom newly renovated and clean. The front desk clerk gave me a map of Naples as soon as I arrived and enthusiastically directed me to the sights. All the staff members are very friendly, charming, and helpful. A tasty breakfast buffet is served in a special dining room. The bar features free Internet service and is a good place to meet other travelers. The downside? Unfortunately, the neighborhood around the train station is seedy and the bed in my room was small, but typical of budget hotels in Italy. Overall, the hotel is an excellent value and I had a very good experience there.

“Hotel Ideal à Naples : très correct, seule Naples ne parait pas "idéale"…”

Rien à dire sur l'hôtel en lui-même; le personnel est plutôt agréable, les chambres sont propres, la décoration est simple et il y a la climatisation. Il y a un bar avec accès internet gratuit (cela peut-être utile quand on s'est fait tout voler…). Seule la situation n'est pas très agréable : à 2 pas de la gare, le quartier est quelque peu tendu… Mais Naples, malgré son charme évident, est dans son ensemble une ville peu accueillante et agressive, voir franchement hostile. Je ne parle pas seulement des vols dont on peut être victime mais aussi de l'ambiance générale qui se dégage de la ville, de l'esprit "sans foi ni loi" qui règne, de l'attitude et du regard des gens, même si évidement ce n'est pas une règle et que notre expérience nous est propre.

“Good value for the price; excellent location”

We stayed in a small inner room on the courtyard on the first floor above mezzanine. The room was clean but small. It met our needs, since we were away from the hotel all day on various excursions. The linens were changed only once during the week with towel change and cleaning everyday. All staff were very helpful and kind, especially given our limited Italian skills. The breakfast included rolls, cheese, ham, three kinds of cold cereal, expresso and cafe americano. The breakfast room was very clean and well run. Hotel location near the Statione Centrale was ideal--access to Metro, buses, and trains with a two-block walk. There were 2-3 good restaurants within a short walk along with convenience stores and a pharmacy for daily necessities and ATMS were convenient as well. On weekends the Piazza Garibaldi has a big street sale with a variety of goods. Concerns about pickpockets in the area are probably exaggerated, since we didn't see or hear about any real incidents. There was a strong police presence after dark. The only downside was the construction in the center of the piazza, but that should be completed within a year??? Thanks to Expedia for listing this Hotel--no problems with reservations or payment.

“Basic but nice”

Very basic hotel right in the Piazza Garibaldi. The room was fine and breakfast was included, and the staff was helpful. The location, however, is less than ideal--right in the middle of a noisy piazza that contains a bus depot and a train station. The hotel itself isn't noisy, but the piazza can be a little rough on the eyes if it's the first thing you see in Naples. Make sure you get away from it and into the city--there's a metro stop right next to the hotel.

“Convenient , great value”

We stayed at this hotel when touring Pompeii. It is very close to the train station. Although the neighborhood is not good, we felt ok. We walked to the old town area to get pizza in the evening around 8 – 9 p.m. My teenage daughter was little scared, but I saw mothers walked with baby strollers on the sidewalks, so I thought it would be fine. Indeed it was not that bad as we were told before we went there.

Location of Hotel Ideal is why we picked it. Steps away from the central train station (great for a day trip to Praiano) and it is easily visible from the city centre as we drove in. The parking garage is conveniently located around the corner and operates 24/7. The restaurant downstairs was excellent and we ate there often. However, besides the hotel quality and service which was great, the area was not as nice as the other italian cities we have visited. We wouldn't suggest walking outside late at night, but the market nearby during the day was nice to visit. Overall, it was a very clean hotel with friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff and we would definitely visit again.

ideal place to stay as we wanted to travel around on the train, room was quiet, nice clean bathroom, towels fresh every day. We were very glad of the the air con. Very helpfull staff.
