The staff were absolutely wonderful. The only reason for the four star rating was because our room had no WiFi. The hotel had WiFi but our room was too far from the source.

Maria makes you feel at home…
Maria was the perfect welcoming host- friendly, interesting, intelligent. This modest hotel had wonderful old Munich charm, excellent location close to old town and convenient to highways, amazing breakfast, and terrific Italian and German restaurants within two blocks. Bathroom was very small but we loved everything else. Best beds for sleeping too.

The mattress was damp and smelled of urine. There was only a thin sheet on it. I had to sleep on the duvet cover so I wouldn't feel the dampness of the mattress, and my nightgown and hair smelled horrible the next day. The staff said they didn't smell anything, so I got no compensation and looked like a liar. Even without that, the place is dingy; you get the feeling you're going to fall through the steps on the staircase. There are several floors and no elevator. The price was exorbitant because of the Oktoberfest.

It is great for being a Hostal. Be aware that there is not check in after 17 hours. The cleaning room end around 11am. Breakfast is fine. Choices are limited. The best is location: great neighborhood and great public transportation.

We are grateful we only had to stay one night. The address given has been closed off. We had to walk around the block to find the rear entrance and were met by a dog. The common area carpet hasn't been cleaned for a long, long time. The decor appears not to have been updated since the 50s. Not enough room to open a suitcase anywhere except on the bed. Windowless hallway didn't have lights on. We had to find our room in the dark. We had to use a regular metal key to unlock the door and then to lock it from the inside. Grateful there wasn't a fire as trying to find key and unlocking it to get out of the room probably wouldn't be possible. Old stove in hallway makes it tight to walk.

It was a nice place and a good location. We booked a room with a full size bed and initially got a room with two single beds. We asked for a change which we got. The room was so hot it was impossible to get a good nights sleep.

A hidden Haus in the Au
I really love this location, and the laid-back atmosphere that the owner brings to this place. It’s like you are staying at a family house. I’ve stayed here several times and I would do it again. On this trip, the owner actually gave me a couple of Euros to put in the parking meter - really not expecting me to pay her back. I did, but she seemed surprised. The only thing I can mark this hotel down on....is bed comfort. It’s a bit hard, but then again...it fits with the “old house” nature of the place that seems so nice to me.

Old-fashioned hotel with excellent breakfast
Our introduction to this hotel was not great. By the way, they don't tell you that the hotel is not actually at the address where it's listed! It's actually on the next street over. However, a nice resident of the hotel stuck her head out of the window and told us where to go. The owner had left a note for us, all in German, and we had to check in on our own. All this was inconvenient but this place has a fabulous breakfast that I highly recommend. It was rather hot in the room, but they gave me a fan when I asked. The room is small but comfortable, very old fashioned. Oh, and really dreadful WiFi, in case you care about that. We ended up really liking it, but it is definitely quirky.

Lovely hotel
We are so happy that we stayed at the Hotel Mariahilf. The hotel is full of charm and warmth and Maria is a wonderful host. We stayed in the quadruple room as we had four people and the room was perfect. It is furnished with beautiful antiques and we really felt we were part of history. The hotel location is perfect for exploring the city and Maria was very knowledgeable about the area and was a great help to us in deciding where to eat and where to go. We had a rental car and Maria has parking available and made it very easy. We were in Europe for a week and this really was our favorite place that we stayed. Maria's sister, who is a sweet dear lady, provided a wonderful breakfast every morning and we felt very cared for while we were there. The entire staff was helpful and just as charming as the hotel itself. We would absolutely stay here again and would not want to stay anywhere else.

Cute little hotel with lots of early 20th century charm and a few quirks. Nice breakfast and breakfast room. Lobby area smells of cigarette smoke, but not a big deal. The neighborhood around it is very nice with narrow cobbled streets and older buildings with shutters and ivy. The large church nearby wakes you with bells in the morning. The owner and staff were all very nice as well.

Small, Older, but charming...
This hotel is an old building - with creaking wooden stairs to match! The rooms are dated, but comfortable. The WiFi did not have a good signal in my room, so I used it in the hall and reception area. The breakfast was what one expects of a German hotel with all the assorted cheeses, meats and such. The location is decent - on the outskirts of Haidhausen and bordering Lehel.

Wonderful location and staff, best breakfast!
We had a wonderful stay in this hotel as a family of four with kids aged 9 and 11. It was like staying in someone's home, so clean and comfortable and with such hospitable staff and the most incredible breakfast selection which was our kids highlight along with the resident dogs. It is also such a lovely area and convenient location with a bus to the centre of town across the road which came every few minutes and close to a supermarket, restaurants (including a beer garden), the Isar river and the Deutsche museum. Also free wifi which worked really well.

The hotel was very quaint and charming. It isn't too far of a walk to Mary's Square and The English Gardens (15-30) minutes. The lady at the front desk was extremely personable and hospitable. She took time to explain where everything is located and provided a demonstration on how to use the security code for the back door. Breakfast was plentiful and they even made eggs to order. The dining room was cozy and had the going to grandma's house type of feel. The wifi didn't work well from our room on the top floor. However, we were able to get good reception in the hallway or downstairs. I suspect this may not be a problem for lower floors. My only complaint is the smell of cigarette smoke but with the windows opened the smoke smell seemed to subside. To be fair, I will admit that I'm probably more sensitive to smoke than the average person.

A great way to stay in Munich
We had a 2 day stay here to start a 2 week trip in Germany. The room we stayed in has an amazing feel to it; spacious, inviting and luxurious. For the high-end traveler take note that the hotel is MANY years old and so a part of the charm of the place is the creaking floors and lack of a lift. The breakfast hosts where warm, charming and efficient. While the hotel is not "in the core" we found it accessible enough to take the brisk walk in to see the sights. Things that need management attention at his writing include a more intuitive front door lock (only 1 in our party of 4 could open the door after hours) and at the least a note about the bathroom outlet being deactivated by the wall switch as it's frustrating to leave a device plugged in all night only to find it has not been charging.

WOULD NOT STAY HERE AGAIN OVERPRICED.
I PICKED THIS HOTEL BECAUSE IT WAS NEAR THE MUSEUM I WISHED TO VISIT. IT WAS ACCEPTABLE BUT IT NEEDS A FULL REFURBISHMENT. DECOR AND FITTINGS WERE OUT OF DATE. THE CARPET WAS WARN AND THE BEAD SPREAD WAS MARKED.

Maria and her staff are just lovely. Very helpful. The hotel is older, and a little quirky. The location is great - just across the river, an easy ten minute walk to Marien Platz and the old town.

We were a family of 4 staying for five days. The hotel is very comfortable and has personalized service where you feel you are staying as a guest at your friends place. Decor is easy going with interesting corners. The people are very friendly and ready to help out with anything. The high point if the hotel is the breakfast room and the breakfast. I challenge you to find a better breakfast spread anywhere in the works. There's meats, cheese, pastries, cereals, fruits, juices, eggs made to order, and the list goes on. Loved it.

Beware of early check-in cutoff.
Terrible. Did not get passed the locked front and back doors. No answer to repeated phone calls. Hotels.com claims 7pm checkin cutoff but this critical information was not included in their email confirmation. Stood in the snow after long journey. Forced to find other accomodations without Mariahilf or hotels.com help. It will take a long time to forget this bad expereince.

Hotel antiguo pero con cierto encanto.
Es un hotel pequeño y un poco antiguo, aunque se está bien en él. El mobiliario también algo antiguo, pero puede tener su encanto. Para personas con dificultad, creo que carece de ascensor, nosotros subíamos andando a la primera planta. El baño es también un poco antiguo (y pequeño) comparado con los otros dos hoteles en que hemos estado en el mismo viaje. El desayuno muy bien y variado, con opciones suficientes para nosotros (fiambre, dulces, fruta, café, zumos...). Y el personal amable y correcto a la hora de atenderte. Si se llega después de las cinco, no hay atención presencial. Hay que avisar para que den instrucciones de cómo acceder al hotel y a la habitación.
