“Great off-beat hotel minutes from Red Square”
An excellent stay for young spirited travelers, who are not too consumed by the usual hotel amenities. Simple, artsy, clean, just what you need, in a perfect location, and for a great price! Minutes walk to Bolshoi Theater, Red Square, cafes, and restaurants. We barely had to use the metro to get around, but when we did - there are plenty of stations around the hotel. The restaurant - bar on premise has great atmosphere and food. Many reviews mentioned noise coming from the bar - we heard nothing, and had a great stay. Laid back & artsy are key words.
“Hidden gem in the heart of Moscow, simple quality with a Russian arty twist.”
It was just what i needed with just a bit more style than i expected. Conviniently located in the heart of Moscow, modest entrance which is shared with a raving nightclub at night and an arty cafe at day, cosy and comfortable room, good size, smartly done and stylishly decorated shower room. I didn't expect that from a 2 star hotel, very pleased.
“Great Location and Value”
The location and price of this hotel could not be better. It is very, very close to Red Square. The hotel itself is fairly avant-garde, and may not be suitable for older people or those traveling with children because there is a club on the first and perhaps the second floor (hotel is on the third). We were out late with friends most nights, so we were never bothered by the goings-on below. Helpful tip: look for the elevator to the left as you walk in. We didn't know there was an elevator until after we hauled our suitcases up the three flights of stairs.
“winter trip”
The location is superb! The room and overall design is pretty cool. It is a nice place to stay during weekdays. But on Friday and Saturday night the music and cigarette smoke coming from the downstairs club would upset even the most undemanding guest
“A work in progress”
This Hotel is to some extent a work in progress. It has an interesting decor, quite funky. Being in Moscow during a very hot summer ( 42C, 36C at night), the rooms were not geared up for it- No airconditioning. A fan in the room was relatively ineffective. The budget rooms have no natural ventilation, which proved stifling in the heat. I would suggest you specify a room with a window. The room was clean and functional and, but for the weather, would have been comfortable. Great position in the centre of Moscow, only a couple of hundred metres from Red Square/ Kremlin etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. A good budget option, but think twice if temperatures are high.
“Great if you're not spending much time at the hotel”
Hotel is perfectly located, 2min from Red Square and Kremlin. That's the only positive side. The room we had was very very small, we couldn't walk. The bed was comfortable, nice power shower but small bathroom again. Toilets were smelly. No TV, no phone, WiFi available in the bar. Breakfast is said to be free but you have to give a tip to the lady so breakfast is about £4. It's disgusting, no need to try it. Staff was polite but we never talked to the same person in our only 2nights stay. Visa registration is not free !!! Yes there is a bar on the 2nd floor and a night club on the 1st one. But I have to say, we were not bothered by the noise. Plus, the bar is kind of nice for a late drink (open until 6am). I would recommend it to anyone who is not spending time at the hotel. Don't choose this hotel to relax, you won't be able to.
“Not Impressed”
i stayed in this place for 5 nights. after 2 days, the staff stopped cleaning the room; the TV never worked, and all my attempts to make the staff look into it did not succeed. it is a VERY noisy place - it was very common to hear VERY laud phone conversations in the hallway next to my room at 3 or 4am. plus - there is a beer bar on the ground floor and a theater on the first - so expect a lot of heavy beat till 2am. in short - if you plan to get any work done in this place - forget about it. the place should be marketed as a dorm (what it functionally is). the location is terrific.
“Not for the faint-hearted hotel in a nightclub---Visit Artel's website before reserving...”
Artel is located INSIDE a night club. If you're 21 and intend to stay out all night, with the option of continuing an evening of partying 50 feet from your room, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere. The staff are 'cool' and friendly, but you have to be prepared for checking in to a hotel whose idea of decor is profanity spray painted on the walls. Check out Artel's website--they're very honest about what kind of establishment they're running. Yes, it's cheap and incredibly located. But be prepared for drunk people to wander the halls at 4.00am knocking on doors (the front desk, located in the main stairwell, is frequently unattended), for the hotel to smell of cigarettes and for the thumping of the club's base to continue all night (and all morning). The rooms without windows are bizarre to sleep in---you can't tell if it's day or night, and the rooms don't have clocks. It really screws up your body's rhythms. Some rooms have cheap mattresses, and double beds are often two twin mattresses put together (i.e., you end up sliding between them in the night). The bathrooms are sort of clean, as are the rooms, but everything is bare bones and the sheets are old and holey. Again, if you're going to Moscow to go clubbing, this is the place to stay--you'd almost have to call it a punk-boutique hotel. But Artel isn't for the faint-hearted, and certainly not for families/young children, only for the hardcore club kid.
