Wouldn’t recommend for a couples retreat
Our room had sand and didn’t seem like it was prepared properly before our arrival. Also didn’t have an iron and ironing board. They told me I need to pay one of their staff to iron my clothing for me.

Rooms are old and uncomfortable, beds need to be replaced, equipment is broken and not replaced. Staff are very friendly and helpful, but our overall view of the facility was of poor quality.

We had a very nice time, thanks to Alfred the manager and Holo, our bartender, waiter. We had an unpleasant experience with other guests, that did not adhere to the rules, but Alfred immediately made a plan, which made the evening very pleasant. Holo has been so friendly and gave us superb service throughout the evening and at breakfast. It is really such a beautiful place.

Close to home getaway
A bumpy start with our initial room experience. The response and reaction from Mapula ( the manager) in particular was outstanding and I am very thankful and appreciative of the effort that was made to ensure our stay was a fun one. The staff are excellent, the food was great. Very relaxing time indeed.

A holiday to remember
We celebrated our anniversary and they made everything so special on the day.... The place is so relaxed and quite and you can really relax with the person you love. We enjoyed our stay from day one till the last day. Was very sad to leave. Will definitly recommend them and come back some day....

The stay was awesome. But for a 4star rating, the condition of thee bed is in a terrible state. New quality beds needs to be purchased. 2 days later and I still have lower back pains. Service at restaurant was not up to scratch but was sorted after Manager assistance. But lovely overall experience and would love to go back.

We experienced good hospitality. The room was clean and the service friendly. The mattress however, was shocking. It was absolutely warn out. The breakfasts were good, we had supper on Saturday evening and the eisbein was fridge cold in the middle. They had it watmed and replaced our sides and gave us discount. On Friday evening the hotel was fille with lively clasical music but the rest of the weekend they only played african music. It just didn't suit the surroundings... On the website they show a beautiful clean tennis court and volley ball area, which is now actually overgrown and not useable. The gardens need attention. The grass wasn't even cut where our room was.

We were allocated, most probably the worst room available. Room 15 is extremely small, it really is a concocted room. The mattress was overused and hollow and extremely uncomfortable. The toilet kept on running through the night, very disturbing. Although the hotel knew that I am a diabetic, no sweetener were supplied. They further allocated our spa booking to another couple with the feeblest of excuses. We were supposed to go in 10h30, but were moved to a 12h15 slot, which inconvenienced us, as we had other arrangements which we had to cancel. Positives: 1. Joey was very professional, friendly and accommodating in moving us to a far better room with a proper mattress; 2. Special accolades to Alfred. He was the star of the staff. He arranged the spa treatment to be moved to the new slot. He really went the extra mile in arranging for us to watch the rugby Saturday afternoon, even when they had a problem with their power supply. His service gets a 10/10.

Shangri-la past its best
Shangri-La is an old place and it shows. Our room was dark and smelly musty. Also the carpets were dirty. The gardens however were lovely.

Reception staff very unfriendly and no people skills. Carpets in the room was filthy. Baby cot was dirty, I made them clean it with soap and water. They had a dirty torn sponge as a mattress. Grounds where very neat and tidy and gardens beautiful. Breakfast on Sat was good. Food and waiters helpful. Sunday food was terrible. Lacked flavor and taste. We where required to pay for our cappuccino as it was not part of the breakfast buffet yet on Saturday we got it with breakfast. We did speak to the manager and he did not have much to say. All cups where even smelling eggy as well as plates.this was my put off not to return to the establishment.

I thought it was good value for money! The atmosphere was stunning and romantic as well as the food were very good! I visited the lodge more than 10 years ago and just loved how management had changed the hotel! A good place to spend Valentine’s Day!

Check-in was quite awkward because the guy at reception initially checked us in at room 14 and after being called by a lady at the back office, he then changed us to room 43. Concerned about this sudden change which was not even explained, I asked the guy what the change was all about. He said his manager instructed him to change us to room 43. And that to him room 43 was the better room. Room 43 looked like it had not been used in a very long time, this was evidenced by the dust and mosquitoes in the bathroom shower cover. The carpet was quite dirty. There was no telephone to call in room service. There was no fridge and no microwave although the design in the room suggests that there should. It left us wondering if we were no moved to 43 because of all these things were missing there and wanted to reserve 14 for other people. Breakfast was good but all other food purchased from the menu was far from impressive. A mexican pizza for example that I ordered was with no jalapeno and this was not even explained by the waitor. The carbonara pasta was also quite bad I must say. the setting of the hotel is in quite tranquil surroundings however we were woken up in the morning by garden services staff as I believe room 43 is right next to the toolsroom. From about 7am, they were walking right infront of our room and chatting to one another.

Our second stay were a disaster. We booked and pay for a luxury room they gave us a standard room. Complaining didn't help. There were no water in bathroom. The breakfast were served late and the standard of the food were not good. We were terribly disappointed because location of hotel is nice

Calm and beautiful romantic place
Spacey bungallows - perfect bed. I personally did not like the shower - only showers from the top and no moving shower. But calm and very beautiful place - feels in the jungle, big walking area with animals and wild nature and interesting gardens. Spa center, pool - averything you need to relax. Also good for children. Good restaurants, perfect breakfast. There is a braai restaurant where you sit around the fire and watch the meat getting ready. Really nice place - we will go again. Only deception - no decent coffee.

We generally enjoyed our 1 night stay. This was a stop over en-route to a game lodge and used this hotel to break the long drive. I would recommend their dinner this was by far the treat of our stay. Great dining experience, great atmosphere and amazing food. The general areas of the hotel were beautiful but when you get into your room there is much to be desired. Very dated decor and in a serious need of an upgrade. The bathrooms especially need some work.

Staff needs training. Aircon did not work and buckets were placed under the aurcon for dripping water. Linen had a urine stain on it and had to be replaced. Tea was served (in a teapot) and was cold.
