“Enjoyable Stay”

The staff is what makes an outstanding hotel, and the staff at the Maria Isabel from the people behind the desk to the bartenders in the lobby bar are first-rate. This hotel was built in the 1960s and I guess was the leading hotel in Mexico City for decades. There are newer hotels, but the Maria Isabel is still one of the leading hotels, and you can get good rates. The restaurant, the Manhatten Deli, has a really good breakfast, but you can also get an outstanding (less expensive) Mexican breakfast next door at Sanborns. Sunday morning, I saw families there, Monday morning, it was more office workers stopping off on the way to work. They have a bar on the upper level that opens in the afternoon. The red tourist bus stops on the other side of the Angel Monument every thirty minutes. Takes about fifteen minutes to get down to the Historic District. Had an enjoyable lunch at the rooftop restaurant on top of the Majestic Hotel overlooking the Zolaco. Riding the Tourist Bus back to the Angel, it is then about five minutes to the Anthropology Museum. Two other highlights were the Frida House (Blue House) and the Trosky House which are in the same neighborhood. The movie, Frida, would be good to watch before your trip. The Tourist bus didn't go there, so I took a hotel car, which is more pricey than a regular taxi, but a lot more convenient and safe. The driver will wait for you. Speaking of safety, I never felt at all in danger during my time in Mexico City.

“Great location.”

Mexico is one of my favorite places on earth, and the Maria Isabel Sheraton Hotel is one of the many reasons why I enjoy Mexico so much.

“Very Satified”

Overall the hotel is great, location, condition, room. Be aware that if you use the hotels taxi and tour services you will pay 2-3 times as much. For example we used the hotels taxi to go to the Diego Rivera museum and the cost was 280 pesos one way. We took a regular taxi back at a cost of 70 pesos. Like wise we used the hotels private guide to the pyramids and was quoted a price of $185 US even though the hotel doesn't take US dollars anymore. When asked if we could pay in pesos we were told yes but they would use the exchange rate of 12.2 peso/dollar even though the exchange rate was 11.2 pesos/ dollar. When we got to the pyramids the guide told us the entrance fee was not included even though the hotel told us it was. We refused and the hotel backed down and paid the entrance fees. So I would recommend not using the hotels services as there seems to be either individual or corporate moneymaking at the expense of the guest.
