After reading the previous reviews about this hotel I wasn't expecting much. But actually, I was blown away by the hotel. We had a beautiful room that opened onto a small swimming pool that was shared with 5 or 6 other rooms. The garden areas are really well cared for. The hotel has its own but of private beach. The breakfast buffet was of a really high calibre. We are in the restaurant on two evenings, and the food was amazing. The hotel has its own boat service where they will take you out for snorkel trips, or water skiing. Twice a week they have a glass bottom boat. Would definitely recommend this hotel, and if I return to Mauritius, would stay there again.

Good value at a reasonable cost
Ocean Villas is a simple family budget hotel and, as such, provides good value for money. The initial welcome was a little cool, but the front desk got warmer, and a few issues we had with the room were solved well and fairly promptly. We were early and our room was not ready, but it was ready right at the official check-in time. The front desk was flexible and helpful with a late check out time. The complex has a tired feel to it and is in need of some TLC - a roof scrub and bit of whitewash on all the outside walls would help the external appeal greatly. Our room, billed as renovated/contemporary, was nice but a bit tired - quite spacious and with a good-sized bathroom. The hotel has natural, simple, well-kept gardens and it lies directly on a very pleasant small and quite private beach with great views of the Bay and with some water-based activities. We had the evening buffet several times, and they were all very good - reasonably wide choice, well cooked, varied and tasty. The breakfast buffet was also varied and decent. Our one a la carte evening was disappointing, the food mediocre and the service slow (no desserts delivered to anyone until the entire restaurant had finished the main course).The evening entertainment was not always to our taste, but it was nice to have it provided and the guests seemed to enjoy it. The piped music during the day was good (lots of well-known international songs, locally recorded and to a fine reggae rhythm.

The last thing you want to do when you arrive at a hotel is to fill in an on-line check-in, particularly when you are a foreigner who has no internet. It takes forever to accomplish. Much easier to hand over your passport for photocopying. Our room was nice and quiet with a lovely pool view. The bathroom spacious with a bath and a shower. Unfortunately, 2 days of our stay we were without hot water and had to use an inferior bathroom at the other end of the complex. Windows in our room needed a good cleaning. We took advantage of the glass-bottomed boat trip which we enjoyed. It was too windy to sit on the beach while we were there but we swam in the pool. Vegetarian food was great the first night with a good choice. The second night was a great disappointment. Very little was on offer. For about £24 it was a waste of money and that was without drinks. Despite notices warning of stray cats and dogs, people were still feeding them and the cats were a real problem begging at the tables in the restaurant. Very safe on-site parking.

I stayed in one of the ocean view rooms and it was honestly worth every penny. The room was cleaned every day with tea and coffee replenished too. The food was delicious. A great variety and the seafood was to die for. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was my first ever solo trip and I’m glad it was here I went! They also offer complimentary boat trips with snorkelling if that’s your thing. I was made to feel very welcome and they soon remembered what my drink of choice was- not sure that’s a good thing hahah. I would love to come back but maybe with some company just so someone else can see how lovely it is ☺️

The place was nice. I did not like that the queen bed was fitted with two twin mattresses. The staff was courteous. The bathroom did not have courtesy shampoo or shower gel. There were only one hand towel and no wash cloth. There was no coffee maker or coffee in the room. We expected at least a complementary bottle of water.

Great hotel with nice facilities. Staff were helpful but sometimes a little slow to respond. Rooms are comfortable and have all the necessary facilities but in some places a little dated and worn. The communal areas are generally maintained to a high standard. I would stay there again.

Nice hotel for a budget stay
It was a nice hotel if you want something on the beach in grand bai but at a good price. The rooms are a bit outdated but they are ok. Buffet breakfast was really good with a wide range of food, very fresh and very tasty. I would stay here again if i want to save bit of money.

The rooms are nice, although there is not a mini bar as advertised, only an empty fridge. Kettle with tea and coffee but no milk and we were told we need to "buy it ourselves". No room service Generally nice friendly staff and massages excellent and well priced but the hotel itself is dilapidated, needs a lot of work doing to it, some of which is in various stages of completion already and the middle of the hotel is a giant building site so the relaxing sounds of birds chirping and waves lapping against the beach are ruined by the chorus of angle grinders and hammers that start around 8am. There are piles of junk lying around the grounds in most parts of the hotel as well that ruins the experience. Breakfast buffet is passable but the dinner buffet or table service are terrible - bland, greasy and overcooked. No dinner drinks included either, not even water! Pest control is an issue here also, stray dogs and cats wondering around the grounds and always in the dining room and staff make no effort to discourage them. It is open on three sides so lots of birds swooping around and pecking at the bread table. Cockroaches and ants plentiful as well. The pools were ok although the advertised Jacuzzi pool was not working and the smaller pool near to the sea was having a wall built in front of it so there were metal rods sticking out everywhere and piles of rubbish next to it. Unsightly and unsafe for children. Luckily we only stayed for 4 days but I feel sorry for guests spend

Comfortable beds, working aircon, bathrooms have hot and cold water with good water pressure. Main floor has powder room, equipped kitchen, living room are large. But all equipment TV, fridge, kitchen counter and cabinets are old, we were told that they are renovating block by block. The pool is ok for kids and adults, restaurant are bar are decent. Staffs are friendly and ready to held. All in all we like it, the beach is few steps away, the lobby is fine and staffs are friendly.

We booked last-minute on a friend's recommendation and booked a beachfront pool-view room. We were far from disappointed and very, very impressed! The room and facilities were comfortable but the view was just the cherry on the cake. Good staff, plentiful breakfast, free watersports. Nice.

My stay at Ocean Villas was for business across a 5 night period. I was on my own. I think the resort caters well to families or couples on a budget. I was disappointed in the reception team and their service (specifically the young woman who checked me in - not a good first impression for the property). The Food&Beverage team was great and I enjoyed my meals. The property location is nice, beach is nice (small) and garden is like a jungle. The rooms are a bit tired. Specifically the villa to which I was "upgraded" the first night, needs maintenance and cleaning (there was a dead, decomposed gecko hanging behind the bathroom door). The second room to which I was moved was kept nice and clean by housekeeping. Some maintenance needed for the lamp shades on the ceiling light and bedside tables. Overall it was an okay experience (wiFi was only good in the second room). The main disappointment was the reception staff on arrival and throughout my stay - they have the opportunity to make or break it and that particular agent was there all week and not quite welcoming.

We have rented bungalows at Ocean Villas for our family of 4 at least 5 times over the years as our kids have grown up. The bungalows are duplexes and some have a full kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and all have close proximity to the beach and Grand Bay. We love the flexibility of having the beach. a very nice pool, a beautiful garden environment, and a full service restaurant and bar all in the same location. Clifford, the director, is on site every day and makes sure that all the hotel operations are functioning properly and he interacts with the guests and takes care of any issues immediately. Wireless internet works well.

very good location
the hotel is very nice, the room was even more of a very good surprise!! It was my partner 25th birthday surprise, I booked a room with ocean view, and we've got a room with pool and ocean view on the top floor!! couldn't ask for better!! We were both so happy and really enjoyed the room and the view everyday! Being seated on our balcony for sunset was pretty good after a quick swim in the private pool ;) The only disappointing thing was the reception staff, who we thought were very rude, not paying attention to you when you walk to the reception desk, and seem not enjoying giving you any information about the surrounding area...pretty much: do it yourself. Also disappointed with the staff meant to promote the hotel activities such as snorkelling, banana boat, kayaking...They dont do anything and when you do an activity with them it goes too quick that it seems you're disturbing them.. On the other side, the bar staff was nice, which was much appreciated for a drink at the end of the day. Overall the hotel is very good, very well located, nothing too fancy and really good to relax and enjoy some time off with the simple things :)

Holiday and wedding celebration. An excellent venue, staff members could not do enough to make our son and daughter in laws day perfect, they went above and beyond their call of duty to please us. I We would highly recommend ocean villas as the best and good value for money. Thank you staffs Greece, Kieran, Andy, and holistic therapists for massages to help us relax throughout our stay. Thank you Clifford, Joel and Alexander for your support. Very much appreciated. We were sad to leave Mauritius, it's heaven on earth.

Dont book - hundreds of hotels nearby
Firstly the surroundings are a bit away from Grande Baie so i was extremely disappointed as there are hardly facilities/amenities outside the hotel as i thought. The hotel was dead quite and no vibe at all - i visited 3 other hotels, especially Coralia Mont Choisy and gosh what a difference! This left me so disappointed coz i almost booked this hotel during my preparations. When i asked the receptionist why is this hotel so quiet she merely said it was off peak! The room we were shown to had a big flight of stairs to get there and when we requested a ground floor room one could tell she was becoming defensive and snapping that this is what we booked for and didn't request.....(i had to tell her im not fighting, just requesting a better room lol). The same lady was encouraging us to take a taxi that was so exhorbitant in price, so if you stay there please make your own arrangements for touring. This was a Chinese lady. Telephone in room never worked despite the fact that i reported it on day one. The rooms were kept and maintained spotless and good facilities in the room... At the restaurant the food was great, staff there was great!!! Especially the Indian lady that would make my eggs to perfection each day and always a smile on her face just made my day. She was caring and even guided us on our tours. I booked for complimentary glass bottom boat and two other activities - think it was snorkelling and scuba diving but only taken on the boat.

Things started a bit rough during our initial stay. We had been given a room with a plumbing issue aside from other issues. At first we were not getting any real assistance from them over the phone. So after our first night, we went and kindly spoke to the reception who was really kind and sympathetic...I wish I could remember her name!!! Well, they made up for it and made sure we were in great care for the rest of the stay. Thank you!!

The hotel is very well situated, walking distance to many other restaurants. The food at the hotel is not good at all. If a little bit more attention is given to the cleanliness, it will be excellent. Some of the staff don't care, for e.g. , there are big signs do no use the towels from the rooms at the pool, use only the pool towels provided, but they do not provide them, when you ask them for pool towels, they say they will bring it & do not pitch up at all. Also they have a security that walks around, he has no uniform, so u don't know who he is, and sometimes he sits outside playing this loud music on his phone.

Good location. Grand Bay is the best location on Mauritius in our view. Hotel staff were excellent. Breakfast good. Room was clean but very dark and needs modernising with better use of space. Very limited facilities if you want to eat in the room. Pool was small but nice. Beach was nice but would benefit from being cleaned up and tidied up at the start of each day. We felt that with a bit more TLC the whole site could be improved.

Great vacation value in Grand Baie!
We have stayed here 3 times in the past 10 years. Excellent value for families. Clean rooms and spacious "villa" style apartments with living room and full kitchen. Nice pool, bar and restaurant. The half board with breakfast is a good combination. The hotel has a sandy beach with sunbathing and fun beach activities but it tends to be windy in winter (NE exposure). The pool is very nice and great place to relax and convenient to the villas. There is a spa that provides a peaceful escape from other activities. The hotel staff is very knowledgeable about activities in the area and can make local arrangements for rental car, day trips, or sightseeing. They are very helpful and pleasant (particularly Jennifer at the front desk), and arranged a training session and open water dive for myself and my daughter...

the hotel staff was great, very cordial and helpful.The food was great ,the sea view room was amazing with a very spacious balcony. We had a very nice excursion trip to ambre island, our speed boat driver along with his collegue were very fun loving to talk to. above all the CEO of the hotel Mr. Clifford made our trip a memorable one and i expect to see him in the near future very soon.
