Recreation
A sundeck houses a freeform splash pool, four barbecue grills, and a poolside cabana that can be rented for private parties. Guests also enjoy two lighted tennis courts, a Ping-Pong table, shuffleboard, and a fitness center with free weights, cardiovascular and weight machines.
The Royal Kahana is adjacent to a sandy swimming beach, and whale watching is available in winter. The five championship golf courses of the Kapalua and Kaanapali Resorts are within three miles. Ocean activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran cruising, and kayaking are also available at the resorts (surcharge). Sight-seeing and whale-watching cruises, deep-sea fishing excursions, and water-sports rentals are available at Lahaina Harbor, 7.5 miles away.

Our room was freshly remodelled. It was clean and freshly pointed. Pool and tennis court are basic. Beach is also OK, somewhat rocky and littered ith seaweed. I am always afraid when I book sight unseen, but the hotel lived up to my expectations.
“Great room; I'd stay there any day!”
We really enjoyed staying at Royal Kahana. I didn't expect much from a 2.5 star hotel, but I was very pleasantly impressed. We had a one bedroom ocean front room, and it was very spacious and comfortably set up. The view was unbelievable! Whether you're there for a short stay or a long one, the room should suffice! (Also, for those of you who don't like bugs, we didn't see any at the hotel :).
“Can't wait to go back....”
Wow !!!! Location, location, location. Over room overlooked the ocean where we could easily see whales, dolphins and beautiful turtles in the ocean and along the shoreline. Room was well equipped, clean and comfortable, loved the outdoor BBQ area. tours were arranged by the 'wonderful' Daisy Mae, Expedia Tours, Maui. Tour operators were always on time for all the pick ups from the Outrigger, Royal Kahana and very friendly people. We recommend the Eco trip to Molokini, absolutely amazing and a must to see. Local buses were a great way to travel to all the local areas, restaurants, shopping malls and out door markets. A big thankyou to all the wonderful staff at the Outrigger Royal Kahana.
“Great place to stay”
The Outrigger Royal Kahaina was a great place to stay. The condo itself was cute as a bug's ear and I hated to leave. It had all the amenities of home including a furnished kitchen and two TV's. The oceanfront view was fantastic with whale spotting from the balcony. The parking is plentiful and free, it was very quiet and away from the madding crowds. The staff was super friendly and everyone was very helpful. I can't wait to go back.
“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”
We've made four visits to Maui and stayed at a different place each time (for various reasons); our recent stay at the Outrigger Royal Kahana was probably the best experience we've had. It's difficult knowing exactly what to expect if you haven't stayed at a place before; while you can get some idea from pictures, etc via the web, I'm sure they can be misleading. That was not the case with the Royal Kahana--if anything, it turned out to be better than expected. I reserved a one-bedroom ocean-view room--what we got could have been considered ocean-front at many places...we could watch the whales right from the lanai. The suite was unbelievably roomy; everything was clean and in good working order (we prefer to stay in a condominium to have a washer/dryer, kitchen, etc). The personnel at the desk were always very pleasant and helpful. We took advantage of the tennis courts available, using the rackets/balls available free-of-charge (we didn't play at night although the courts are lighted). The location turned out to be great--with outstanding beaches relatively nearby, restaurants and stores within walking distance, and Lahaina only a short drive away. Like almost everywhere in Maui, the parking spaces could have been bigger, but there was ample parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Outrigger Royal Kahana!
“Royal Kahana is Great!”
Our trip to Maui was excellent. It didn't start so great at Hertz, but that got straightened out as well. The Royal Kahana Outrigger was exceptional and really stood up to our expectations. We have read "bad reviews" about it on other sites, but our experience was great. The "condo" room we stayed in was excellent, clean, the necessities for cooking were there, it was clean and well maintained. The view from our lanai starting from the sunrise and whales in the morning to the sunset in the evening were incredible. We can't wait to be able to afford to go back !!!!
“A week wasnt enough time!!”
This was my second time to Maui, my husbands first, and we had a wonderful time. The first time I visited Maui, I stayed in Kihea, and although it was beautiful, I loved the location of the Outrigger much better. I cant wait to go back! Everyone at the resort was friendly. Our room was always clean when we arrived from our activities. We would definitely stay here again,
“good for the price”
This hotel is a old, but was very clean. Everyone was friendly. We slept with the window open, and listened to ocean. There was no need for air conditioning because of the wind. The kitchen was very useful, we used it everyday. The beach isn't that great, but there are many other places to swim. The hotel was quiet, and not on the main highway, so there wasn't a lot of traffic.
