“Not Impressed”
The pool was closed, along with the activity center, for at least two days. The staff claimed that such was indicated on the website, but was unable to find where the pool being unavailable was made known to prospective travelers. Because the pool was closed for 2-3 days, and because no lawn chairs were available to use outside the pool area, and because the property's location wasn't at a usable part of the beach in Kihei, the property was, in effect, rendered useless while the pool was undergoing maintenance. Also, the room was decorated in pink carpet and tacky and worn home furnishings - that alluring, grandmother-from-fifties style (not to knock grandmothers generally). A pretty sub-standard experience. At the rate charged, the question would be how much more per day would it take to stay at a sufficiently better property, which I'll look into next time.
“awesome”
fun place , very relaxed ,
“Excellent hotel, at a great price”
This hotel is in a great area and has a very large yard for walking dogs, playing games, sunbathing. Its on the shoreline, not good for swimming but good for paddle boarding. The pool area and grounds are great, and spacious. Rooms are quiet and roomy. Great hotel for the value.
“Best value in Maui”
We chose the Maui Sunset because of it's central location. The grounds at this complex are amazing. The lawns are lush and green. The pool facilities are larger than other condo pools and you have the ocean as your backdrop! The units themselves are smaller, older, but very functional. We did not spend a lot of time in the unit because we are very outdoor oriented. We do not go to Hawaii to stay indoors. Everything in our unit was clean. Our only beef was that the unit we were in did not have a cooler, beach chairs or other things we could borrow. Luckily the unit my sister stayed in did so we did not lack for essentials. The 1 bd unit we stayed in (as well as the unit my sister was in) has sleeping in the form of a murphy bed, pull out sofa and the bed in the bedroom. If travelling with kids, this is ideal as the siblings do not have to sleep in the same bed. There were a few families that stayed in this complex but most of the residents are an older, friendly crowd. Many stay for months at a time. There is quite a bit of wind at this location. My family did not mind though as it was very cooling after visitng other stifling hot locations such as Lahaina. We would stay here again. Getting a partial ocean or full ocean view is worth the additional money.
“Was a great pick for the price I could afford.”
Really liked the location and all the room had to offer, only thing that i have to complain about was that there was something in the bed and kept biting me. Every night I would check the bed and didn't see anything, and every morning I would have new bites on me. I don't know what It was but my bites were pretty big and gross.
“"Beautiful place"”
The condo Maui Sunset is a very nice place to stay and if possible I'd like to live there!!!!!
“We were very pleased, though a bit noisy for sleep”
Overall was pleasing and satisfying. Since it is near a big road, it is very noisy at night and so it is difficult for a sensitive sleeper to get good rest. But I would go back! :)
“Would go back again.”
The Maui Sunset is an older place with some of the rooms being quite dated. Renovated rooms are very nice though. Overall the place is clean, the grounds are immaculate and the location is great. Don't expect a 5 star resort because you are not paying for one. I would recommend this place for someone who wants a clean comfortable room with a great location. Close to the beach, shopping and dining.
“Would love to live there if it were quiet.”
The room was excellent and the owners left very convenient Island items like boogie boards, umbrella & ice chests. Being able to do your laundry, cook, and vacuum was a great bonus for a week long stay. The beach at that location is good for a view but not for swimming; too much broken up coral to bang you feet up on, or knees if you try to swim; it's shallow for a long way out. The location is great and close to many of the great beaches so the fact that the beach at the hotel is not the best is no big deal. If you need dead quiet to sleep then you may wish to look elsewhere, otherwise you'll love it.
“Wasn't that great.”
As a room on beach, it was ok. Did find 3 live waterbugs roaches? (big) in room. Front door lock was worn out or keys were bad. Staff said you just have to wiggle the key. Both AC filters appeared to have never been cleaned. This is true for every room I've ever been in on Maui. Filters need cleaning folks! Great green grounds, very nice pool and tennis courts. Beach was a mess with algae and smelled horrible.
