The location of the hotel is superb-on the waterway. The hotel has plenty of parking with quick and very friendly check-in. The room was spacious with very comfortable beds. The pool and the restaurant/bar attached to the hotel were superb - provided a very relaxed, laid back Florida ambience. After the Theme Parks it was wonderful to spend a few days relaxing, watching nature at it's best, and enjoying the holiday atmosphere of this hotel. The free breakfast was great - plenty of choice and a plentiful supply of food. To miss the rush, get there before 9.30am.
Staying on a houseboat is very different. Very quiet and comfortable. If you're looking for the Ritz Carlton experience, this isn't it. This is the true experience of the original Florida Keys, before commercialism took over.
Very nice place! Very clean room and nice staff. Bummed that the tiki bar by the pool was not available due to renovations, but I'm sure the renovations that are making will update the place even more. We will be back!

We didn't really do much at the hotel. It was just a place to lay our head. However, after seeing the canal and the water activities available, it made the money worth while. The rooms are clean and the staff obviously does the best with what they are given. The rooms are in much need of updating. The bathroom was rather small so if you're a big guy, good luck. Really though, the place was quite tropical. It was one of the cheaper places I found and well worth the money. If you want to park your boat in the water behind your room, this is the place to go on a budget.
The staff is great, rooms could be a little cleaner but nice upon first inspection. Small pool but great lounging (don't let the iguanas scare you). No cell reception and tiny TVs help get you doing other things like walking the dock or going for a kayak ride where you can see multiple species of fish, turtles, and we even saw a small nurse shark. Great location for sunrises right off your balcony. Wish they had more hammocks but relaxing and moon-gazing is super tranquil. In the summer months, the dead sea grass smell was intense but I'm sure winter months are much better.

Hawk's Cay Resort is a wonderful experience. The property we rented there by Duck Key Vacation rentals was comfortable and accommodating for our family of 5. Our three teenage sons were also happy with the activities available, though it would be nice if teen night were offered more than just on the weekends. Diving in the Keys was a great experience. Would have loved to go deep sea fishing, we almost did but when we reached our fishing destination the seas were too rough, but it was a nice ocean ride out to the spot and we were fully refunded what we paid to go deep sea fishing. We would love to return to this resort and will recommend it to everyone we know.
In the central Keys Marathon is a relatively new city, though the area has been developed for a while. Tourists flock to Marathon to sunbathe on Sombrero Beach. Fishing and scuba diving are also popular here.
