“A day at Chancellor lodge”
Easy located, straightforward check in, clean room, quality for money!
“What do you expect from a hotel?”
The staff offer a warm and friendly introduction to the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and some of them are spacious, by European standards. My main gripe was that the temperature controls of the shower tended to have a mind of its own. The facilities on site are limited, e.g. no gym or leisure facilities. The breakfast provides an excellent start to the day.
“Good value”
We booked a 'double room' at the Chancellor Hotel and Conference Centre for our stay in Manchester. The double room featured in the sample photo currently posted on Expedia.ca does not match the room offered. It was a very small room with a double bed, 2 to 3 ft. of clearance around the bed, a small corner closet, a desk with a TV and a chair (which could not really be moved around because of the limited clearance) and a bathroom. As we arrived with multiple suitcases, we had insufficient room to store our luggage. This room would have been ok for one person and for the purpose of sleeping only. As one of us would be working in the room during our stay, we really needed a bit more space. We went to the front desk and inquired after the availability of a larger room that better suited our needs. The clerk was extremely helpful and arranged for us to stay in a much more spatious room for an additional 10 pounds per night. We were very happy with the switch. Every morning an elaborate English breakfast was offered in the restaurant portion of the hotel (included in the price for the room): Coffee, tea, yoghurts, fruit, cereals, milk, cheese as well as a wide variety of traditional English breakfast staples-bacon, sausages, black pudding, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and toast.
“Crampus campus”
My wife and I chose this hotel due to its proximity to the Uni halls of residence where our son is staying. very convenient location for this application and quite easy to get to the City centre by frequent and cheap bus services. Reception was not good, a surly and unwelcoming operative at the desk - no smiles or even attrempts to make us welcome. I would say it was OK for 1 night but wouldn't want to stay any longer. Although a double room, it was incredibly small, designed for one person but certainly cramped for 2. The room was also way too hot and we had no control of the heating.
“Not bad for 3 stars”
You enter the Hotel to the rear into the car parks. On any literature I had seen you see the lovely frontage/gardens and I thought I had come to the wrong place so be aware!! Room sevice options are listed but there seems limitations to when this is available, I asked for a sandwich at 9.40pm, to be informed the kitchen was closed. Likewise when I asked for a cafetiere of coffee in the bar,but I was offered instant!! I only got a peek over the garden from my room but had a great view of the venting and roof! However my room was spacious and clean, but I would ask for a different room next time. Can only comment on breakfast, this was very good and lots of choice. No idea as to when Dinner was available and no information was forthcoming. The reception staff were very helpful: ordering taxis, suggesting places to visit etc,. I thought it was good value for money and would stay again.
“Go here if you want to re-live your uni halls of residence days!”
Small pokey room with about a foot around the bed. Bathroom shower was so hot you couln't stand under it or so cold it was like ice - constantly flicking to hot and cold when anyone else turned a tap on! The walls are so thin all you can hear are other guests coming back from a night out and doors slamming. Very disappointed - not worth the nightly rate. Stay in the city centre and pay the extra 30 pounds it costs to get a taxi to and from the centre!
“Chancellor's Hotel”
Busy hotel in university grounds, lots of sports going on outside in the weekends. Hotel room very small, could barely walk around the bed. No elevator to second floor. I found the staff pleasant and helpful.
“Not impressed”
Hotel room is too small ! Staff is not friendly. Location is isolated.
“A complete nightmare”
A friend and I arrived at the hotel which is a university establishment for students and looks like it. My reservation was mistakenly given to someone else with a similar name. We were then given keys to a room that someone else was residing in. Thankfully they were not in the room when I opened the door and saw their belongings. This created a completely unsafe environment for both of us and we promptly ordered a taxi and went to another hotel paying 3 times the nightly rate due to a Manchester United game, but we felt safe.
