“Best place to stay in Manaus!”
We had a great time at this hotel. The hotel was very beautiful but quite old. The wood trim in the hallways was something you will not see too often in hotels in the US. This was a very good experience. Don't miss the breakfast buffet of native Brazilian foods. It was terrific.
“Comfortable hotel but expensive and not convenient to city”
The Tropical Manaus is a very nice, but expensive, hotel. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was very large with a great shower. Public rooms were comfortable and well maintained. The included breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of hot and cold choices. The hotel is pretty much a destination in and of itself and as such is not convenient if you need to do things in the city. Cabs were very expensive, so we had to eat dinner at the hotel, which limited our choices. We had hamburgers and fries which weren't that good and were overpriced. I contacted the hotel by e-mail four or five times over a couple of months period before arriving trying to get information about services, tours, transfers, etc. but never received a single response. I even contacted the tourist board asking them to have the hotel respond to my questions to no avail. DO NOT EXPECT THE HOTEL TO BE OF ANY HELP IN PLANING A VISIT TO MANAUS! I was annoyed that the hotel charged us to leave our bags in storage while we took a day trip before meeting our cruise. The hotel did not provide the type of friendly, helpful service we expected and was too far town, but it was very comfortable and felt safe.
“Nothing Special”
While our stay at this hotel was satisfactory overall, it was a bit disappointing based on the price. The pools were small and the building generally seemed a bit out-dated. Many of the TV channels didn't work. The hairdryer in our room didn't work. It was an expensive taxi ride to get anywhere else in the city. We were charged for storing our bags for a few hours after check-out (anytime after noon - apparently before noon there is no charge), which seemed unnecessary based on the price. We were also charged a "service charge" for our meal, even though we ate at the restaurant (not room service) and there was already a tip included. The only reason to stay here would be if you are booked on tours with Fontour, as we were - otherwise, I'd look somewhere else.
“We especially enjoyed the outdoor pool area. The lighting in the rooms and halls was not good at al”
Internet service was not very satisfactory and I had very limited knowledgable assistance in accessing the limited time of internet use daily.
“isolated, bit crowded, too busy, only worth it, at Expedia's excellent rates”
Service mediocre and expensive because it it is too far from town, too busy in July, most staff spoke little english, pool and restaurants are too crowded and noisy.
“Heeeeere's Johnny!”
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hotel, but if you had to be in Manaus, this and the Park Suites are probably the only hotels worth staying at. It's a cross between old world charm and seen much better days. Most hallways look like interior shots for The Shining - "Make it a double Jeeves".
“Out of the way. Waste of money”
The only redeeming quality is the pool. It's old, smelly, expensive and out of the way. The rooms are terrible and the beds are the worst part. My bathroom sink didn't even work. What a waste.
“Not worth the top dollars I payed!!”
Simply not worth the money I payed(brazilian standard) because: hotel not well kept, dirty, mold smell, breakfast terrible, service terrible! I think I will try Tropical Business next time, there you at least get a buatiful view over the river if you are lucky, even thou the owners are the same and standard/service the same(when I read the reviews)
“Not impressed”
dated and dumpy
