Located on a private island in South Male Atoll, Maldives, Velassaru Maldives can be reached by a 25-minute speedboat ride from Male International Airport. Velassaru Maldives features 129 open-plan bungalows and villas with some located over the lagoon. All provide ocean views and direct access to the lagoon or beach. Built with teak, stone and thatch, the island-style accommodations have simple décor, vaulted ceilings, and expansive walls. Guestrooms offer LCD televisions with cable channels, iPod docking station, home theatre system, and DVD players. International direct-dial phones, Internet access, and in-villa safes are included in all rooms. The 4.5-star property includes individually-controlled air conditioning and ceiling fans. Bathrooms have bathrobes, complimentary toiletries, and hair dryers. Coffee and tea making facilities, minibars, and complimentary bottled water are also included. Rollaway beds, nightly turndown service, and housekeeping are provided.

Recreation
This Velassaru resort features an infinity pool with views of the beach and ocean, a sauna, a fitness centre, and tennis courts. In addition, the property offers snorkeling and other water sports. A PADI certified dive school is onsite.

The resort spa includes 10 over-water treatment pavilions with unobstructed views of the ocean. The spa also includes a Yoga pavilion, a boutique, and a pool. “The best kept secret of maldives”
My tenth visit and the most serendipitous. Great staff bar none. No complaints. Amazing snorkelling. Any mistakes were graciously taken care of. The saying : the customer is always right is true here.
“Beach Island Contemporary Luxury”
Velassaru is a beautiful, comfortable and contemporary resort. Stayed in a water villa, very comfortable, clean, private deck to enjoy stepping into the sea, watching colorful fish and stars at night. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, would call us by name and recall our previous orders and preferences. Always a pleasure to have conversations with them. Resort has a very relaxed atmosphere, casual dress, acceptable to be barefoot. Sand covered floors in many of the buildings which are open spaces. Food/drinks were very good, happy hour was nice although I don’t recall if the beach bar had it. Dinner buffet was very good with a different theme, food selection each evening. Sea water was crystal clear and a spectacular color. A lot of fish visible from shore and on the walking decks. Swimming and snorkeling was very good, seeing a lot of big, small and colorful fish. The corals were limited, some very pretty, overall good snorkeling right from the beach. Only negative comments. View off one side of island isn’t great, towards a distant industrial island for Maldives that had a steady cloud of smoke coming from it. Would be nice if bottled water was provided more often, without a charge. At check-out the boat transfer cost was higher than rate on Expedia reservation, they corrected the amount without any issue. Completely enjoyed the resort atmosphere, décor, music, people, food and our time there. Highly recommend The Velassaru for a Maldives destination.
“excellent hotel”
I have just returned from an excellent few days on the Maldives island of velassaru staying in the hotel Laguna.The hotel staff couldnt do any more for you and nothing was too much trouble.The rooms were cleaned twice aday with ample clean towels and bedding.I would recommend this hotel.
“Great Resort - IF You Can Get at Good Value”
Fantastic resort with fantastic service meals etc. only thing that stung a little was the exorbitant holiday pricing but was the same with all the resorts. If you can get for a good value then I highly recommend.

“Laguna Maldives”
I stayed in one of the overwater bungalows, and the extra cost I am sure was worth every penny. The accomodation itself was excellent, although a little external decorative upkeep would not go amiss, although this does not really detract from the accomodation experience. The food in the Italian and Chinese restaurants was good, but not excellent, I did not try the buffet restaurant. The real food jewel was the barbeque restaurant and not only was the food of an extremely good standard but the setting and service were also noticeably better. The biggest let down of the resort was the service. On several occasions we asked for various simple and normal things, varying from a drink at the bar to laundry cleaning or restocking of the minibar, and although the service was promised the product or service did not arrive, requiring further requests. This I think is compounded by the fact that a standard 10% service charge is tacked onto the bill and so the personnel do not feel the need to improve their service levels to attain additional money. Improved service does not get rewarded by additional tips, thereby removing the need to enhance the level of service provided.
