Although the apartment was ok and clean, it is not what I was looking for. It is advertised as a hotel room and it is not. I wasn’t informed I needed to do an online check-in otherwise I didn’t have the code to enter the building. I didn’t know I had to wait outside on the street until 3:00pm to get a code to enter. I didn’t know their “lobby” was in another address very far away. So I was on the street until found wifi from a shop who told me they were frustrated bcse this was a continuous situation of miss information that customers were getting every time they booked this place.

Could be better
Problems getting into the hotel. When we arrived no one on site to give us keys and it took us time to contact people to tell us how to get the keys. Once in things went better. Stairs to second level ( bedrooms) were long and had no rail to help with navigation. Would not recommend if over 50.

Modern and spacious for 5 people. Great location, walking distance to Prado museum and city center. Very nice to have 2 bathrooms. Beds were comfortable. Entry codes were sent at last minute and our phone service wasn't working, so a bit clunky check in.

Close to most sites. Easy to hail a taxi if needed. Lots of food choices. Felt safe with lots of police presence, there was a police station close by. Wish they had a dryer. We could not hang laundry outside because it rained a lot during our stay. Wish we had a face to face contact during checkin. We did not do any cooking but it looked like there were plenty of pots and pans to do so

Our family vacation in Madrid
Check-in was a bit difficult, but they were responsive over the phone and we did manage to check-in after about an hour. The place can definitely use some updates to the bathroom, shower door was not closing in the downstairs bathroom and the upstairs shower the water was backing up. Beds were comfortable, but some of the radiators didn't work in the apartment and it was colder in the first floor bedroom. Overall this place was OK but can definitely use some TLC.

The Space within the unit was good....But the condition of the unit was definitely not up to standard. We could not lock the lower washroom door as it was jammed and the handle on the inside was broken. Also one of the bedroom's headroom was all scraped up and the surface was not pleasant to look at... The main area of disappointment was the lack of Service and Courtesy. When we arrived at the building we could not get in as there was no one there to welcome us. We tried to email and to text but nothing worked. We only managed to get into the building when a guest was kind enough to let us in and gave us the telephone number to make contact.. When we did make contact the person from SmartRental said that we had to make a payment of Euro 200 in case we damage something in the condo.I said ok and gave my Visa number which he said did not work. so i gave my Master Card which he said also did not work. Then Smartrental said i would have to make the payment in person and to do that i would have come to where he was located. He gave me the address of his location. I got a Taxi and after a 15 minute drive ( one way) I got to the location where two guys were sitting behind a Desk in a Hallway. This looked to me as being rather suspicious. Anyway I gave my Visa Card, and for whatever reason the Visa card worked this time. ( It did not work when I was giving the number over the phone) I only hope this was Not a scam, because I left the Unit in perfect condition ( as i found it )

Made me walk 25 minutes with my family standing outside because their log in app failed. So not use this property. Please for your family's comfort, safety, cleanliness please do not use

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, STAY AWAY FROM SMARTRENTALS
First, the apartment they gave us was not the one we had selected when booking the place. The apartment they gave us was much darker. The biggest problem was that it only had 3 beds, despite of being 4 people in our group/family. When I called SmartRentals, they asked me to use the sofa bed in the living room. Problem was that the sofa bed: a) didn't have an actual mattress, and b) was old and filthy (see pictures). They did send a mattress after a while, but all beds were very uncomfortable in general, so bad nights all along. Finally, and I know this is not critical, but speaks to the poor quality of service... they only gave us one roll of toilet paper for the entire stay! So all in all... worst experience I have ever had with this type of rentals. I tried to have them move us to a different apartment, but were completely ignored after giving them my feedback. I strongly recommend staying away from any SmartRentals location.

Smart Rental Chueca, Calle Santa Barbara, Madrid.
We were very disappointed by our stay here. Smart Rentals cancelled our booking at Atocha but assured us the apartment was of the same size and quality. Instead we stayed in a very dirty apartment which was noisy and the second bedroom was too small for two people to stay in. The condition of the furnishings and flooring were poor. Indeed we felt dirtier after taking a shower as the floor in the bathroom was so filthy. The toilet seat had been glued before but broke in two after the first days use.There were bare lightbulbs in the apartment, the cushions for the outdoor seating area had disappeared and the safe was broken. The communal areas were worse with heavily soiled flooring and rotten waste smells throughout the stairways. The apartments are sharing a building with a restaurant and bar which means the place is very noisy. We heard noise from the bar still at 3 am. We complained to SmartRentals whose answer to all our complaints was that “it’s legal under Spanish law”. We doubt the unhygienic conditions are. It cast a shadow over our visit but Madrid is a fantastic city..just stay somewhere else! Expedia please help us get a refund.

We enjoyed our visit to Madrid. The location is very close to the Prado, other interesting sights and many good restaurants. The staff at the desk was very nice. The apt is not fancy, but perfect for our visit. My only complaint is that there was very little hot water, about the first 15 seconds of your shower. There is not always a person at the desk so you need to call or email if you have questions. Our first taxi driver had no problem finding the location, but, several of them were confused. Keep your google maps handy to assist them if needed. There is a washer, but, not a dryer.

Buyer beware
At the original time of booking in February Madrid Rentals only had pictures that appeared to be for one rental unit. Since our complaint they have added many more photos highlighting the fact that this building houses multiple units that they offer on premise. The VRBO sight for the last two months does not show any reviews for this property and I am not sure if this one will be posted which should be a red flag for you. Due to a computer prompt from VRBO on behalf of Homeaway to complete our booking after a payment was made, we believed our card was declined so we used a second card to secure the booking. This was after checking with VRBO who initially claimed they couldn't find our original inquiry. The result was our booking two apartments two days apart and this VRBO sight booking only allowed for instant booking with NO REFUNDS. There was no option to get money back on this listing. Multiple calls to VRBO help department (who were very responsive and tried to assist) and Madrid Smart Rentals left us with no relief from the second apartment booking which was not refunded despite our attempts to explain the computer error two days apart. I spoke to the manager Javier who was polite and stated he understood and would look into it. He chose to email me and they stood by the fact that their are two bookings and no refunds and wished me luck with our booking agent.(VRBO) I am still waiting for an investigation on my behalf with my credit card company but Madrid Smart Rentals on this location has no reviews for the last two months. They refused all attempts to cancel the one of two booking by me, VRBO and the local law enforcement agency who called in on my behalf. That is their business decision so you make up your own mind on whether you want to do business with them. They do have a front desk staffer (Christina) who was attentive and tried her best to assist us but her efforts were also rebuffed by management. The apartment was adequate and (this is not sour grapes) it was fine for a run of the mill non residence/corporate run unit. The location was central enough but there are plenty of owner occupied places that I believe will give you a more personal and less corporate feel than we got from this organization. I can not recommend doing business with a company that refused to show reasonable accommodations given the circumstances. George

Well situated for city visit
The hotel was fine for our needs and we really enjoyed our stay, Staff were excellent. However we would have liked a broom or dustpan/brush to enable us to sweep floor, there was also no drying cloth for washing up. Our last night was a little noisy as the people in the room above us appeared to be wearing clogs and spent most of the time walking between rooms

Staff was excellent!! The location is in a noisy area. Lots of noise thru out the night, including bar crowd, trucks and cars. Beds and pillows were not comfortable at all. hard to get a good nights sleep here. Good Wifi. Be careful of the stairs.

Christmas Stay
We truly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it. We would definitely stay here again. One thing to be aware of, we are a family of 5 and we had to spread out our showers throughout the day. Hot water runs out after about 2 showers and the water turns ice cold. We learned the hard way! Other than this, our stay was pleasant and Cristina was a great hostess. The apartment was large enough for our family and had a great kitchen. There is a small washer but no dryer. You have to hang up anything you wash on a provided drying rack. Location was great. A couple of blocks to the Metro station. We love Madrid and would return to the SmartRentals!

This is our second stay in 2 years. We love the properties and the location. It is the most central to everything we want to see and the neighborhood has so many restaurant options it is overwhelming. We eat every night in our neighborhood no matter where we find ourselves in Madrid. Our only criticism in this stay is the room was a bit warm. In the other properties we have rented that was not an issue.

The checkin was a problem as no one was there when we arrived. The reception is open for limited time. Rooms are nice. Its like a fully furnished house. Bedroom is too small.

Moreover, at it's says at Hotels.com, we have a reception on site with limited hours and if you are planning to arrive after 7pm you need to call to our office in advance, otherwise, we can't know when you're coming. Anyway, we have, also, a emergency contact number running 24h, in case, some problems may apear during your stay. Good condition but rubbish wifi
The free wifi was rubbish as it seemed to disappeared in the evening til the morning. The tv channels were all in Spanish.
