First time in Madrid and this was a perfectly walkable location close to locals bars and restaurants. We explored a good radius and there was plenty to see, do and buy. I really liked the leather shoe shops and there was one cork shop which are way more common in Portugal. Check out El Mercado for a fast service but busy and fun food hall, but you also have cheaper grocery options like the Dia stores for fruits and such. Charcuterie is everywhere. The smell of pig is inescapable in some areas, so FYI, but I thought it was fine. You can find 2 euro wine in grocery stores and more expensive options in the shops. As far as accommodations, La Macarena staff was very polite. Our beds were made every day. There is no fridge. Our room was a two bed turned into a three bed which made for cramped quarters but were were happy with it besides when we tried to cuddle and the beds pushed together were a little gapped. I would recommend this place! We had a great stay!

Stayed here one night before flying home.
We stayed here on a Wednesday. For the price, our room was nice, with a private bathroom, 2 beds, a large window, free wifi, and a tv. Our room was quiet, clean, and the towels were large and fluffy. The room was small but it had a closet and in-room safe (which we did not use). The hotel is on the 2nd floor of the building and you need to press a button marked "la Macarena" next to the outside door to be allowed into the building. You then go up the elevator to the 2nd floor. Everything you need is nearby and walkable. The front desk is open 24 hours. We enjoyed our stay.

Small room but well facilitated. Perfect for a short stay where a bed, toilet and shower are required. Lots of street noise including a very noisy manhole cover overnight, but apart from this the hotel fitted the bill perfectly

The room and bath were very nice, albeit compact. It could be noisy, however. There is noise from the street. The walls seem thin so cross your fingers for quiet neighbors.

Surprise so close to everything
Room was hot, no a/c working. Ceiling fan did the trick. Quiet close to everything food shopping etc. Location second to none. Hard to locate hotel is located on 2nd floor only.

It's nothing fancy but we were happy with it. Small room but had good closet space. Bathroom was tiny (one person at time) but tub/shower was roomy enough. Beds were comfortable (we had two twins). It was quiet for our stay Tues & Wed. A/C was good and had a ceiling fan. Staff is on duty 24 hours. They were very nice and helpful. The night before we left they arranged to have a cab for us early the next morning to go to the airport. (which is a flat fee of 30 euros) Great location near the Mercado and Plaza Mayor. We went to the Flamenco show right across the street and really enjoyed it.

Great place to travel solo or a couple, steps to Plaza Mayor, right next to the stairs. Clean place, old building but charm, and the most important thing to say the shower was great the preasure of the water and heat ! Sometimes is difficult to find in this kind of Hostal even Hotels

The location was excellent and right in the middle of everything. Literally steps away from Plaza Mayor. Staff was friendly and the communication barrier wasn’t too hard to get past. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is in a busy district which can be loud sometimes but not too much as long as you close the windows. It is a good walking distance to most attractions which is why i chose this place.

What's not to like about this hostela. It's clean, comfortable and friendly, with the added bonus of being in a fantastic location in the Center of Madrid. It's so good, I'm gong back.

Be specific about room but great place
Overall would recommend this property. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The only issue was that we were a couple and they gave us a room with 2 singles instead of the double bed we requested. It was full and they couldn’t change our room. Be specific and would suggest to verify what room you will have. Location was really great!

Loved this property. It was centrally located, I felt safe, and I felt like I was taken care of. The property is old, but that's a part of the charm in my opinion. I really enjoyed that it was older, you can tell it was kept up with love and care. It doesn't feel weirdly sanitized like some hotels can be. It felt very 'mom and pop' and I really appreciated and adored that. Highly recommend if you are looking for a place that's close to the city center.

William on the desk was great. Friendly and very helpful. I had a very early flight and he got a taxi for 4am and helped me downstairs and on my way.

Problem with card machine when paying. They said payment rejected twice but on calling my bank it showed the payments had gone through. The guy would not have it and I paid cash. Still trying to sort it out. Otherwise ok service. Arranged a taxi for me at 5.45 am

It is the cleanest and cocktail hostel in the world. Polite and friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable. Everything works. Find out in which room you will live. Some rooms do not have a good view. Nearby are cafes and restaurants, as well as shops. It is in the old and beautiful area of ​​Madrid.

the staff and room overall were really nice. The hostel is very close from many tourist sites which made it easy to walk or take a taxi. Definitely will stay here again

Just on San Miguel by the Plaza Mayor, walking distance to all attractions and lots of good restaurants around. Very secured hostel with safe inside room, reception desk at 2/f, the g/f entrance door is locked most of the time, it looks exactly a private residence with door bell on right hand side. Our room has a balcony, so sometimes a little noisy from restaurants right down that close late at night. However the balcony has triple doors to minimize the sound. The nearest public underground parking at Plaza Mayor is quite expensive at €32.50 per night.
