“A Pet Lovers Best Friend!!”
We had an amazing experience during our stay! We had our family dog along on this trip and the hotel was great about having him! When we checked in they gave us a doggie bag full of dog treats, dog bone, water, and dog waste bag. In addition to this, they hotel had no extra charge for pets which is really hard to come by. They also allowed us to leave him in the room alone while we went out. They simply took down our phone numbers in case they needed to reach us in regards to him. They even offered to go check in on him! They were great to stay with!! The room service was also fantastic!
“Lake Break without Sand”
This hotel is a piece of Madison history. Its located right on Lake Mendota and the view from our room was beautiful ( I believe all rooms have a view of the lake). We were in the older section. The bathrooms were in great shape without being remodeled. The bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean. The lakeside restaurant was busy with guests having cocktails at sunset, boaters coming in for sandwiches. . Best of all we could walk to downtown to campus shops, bars & restaurants. The hotel's underground parking kept our car cool, and would be a blessing during a snowstorm. The only negative comment was that the elevator was slow, at least it wasn't the Tower of Terror.
“above and beyond”
The hotel was everything , and more, than we could have asked. Just perfect Recommendations for places to go and places to eat, ,service. meals etc. They even mailed us a forgotten object such that we received it the following day. If i had any problems it was with the exercise room, really, the equipment did not work well.
“Glad I went before the redevelopment”
We had a suite in the original tower - living room with attached bathroom, and down a short hall, a large bedroom with another bathroom. (I learned later that two rooms had been combined to create the larger suite.) The rooms were small (by modern standards) but exceptionally well-proportioned, with windows in the right places and small-scaled furniture. Both bathrooms had their original 1950's tilework (think pale pink and black) but the water temperature was uneven at best. All windows were operable, which was a plus. The lobby was pleasant and nondescript. The elevators were dingy but had magnificent decorative metal grilles inside the car. Overall, the rooms felt like an elderly relative's house - small, dated, but charming and efficient. A certain kind of traveler will love it; others may want to stay somewhere newer along the highway. A controversial redevelopment project involving the hotel was just approved by the City Council. Restoration of the tower is planned, so I'm glad to have stayed here before that all began.
“Lucky to be at the Edgewater”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Edgewater. Some may have issues with the lack of wireless internet but the 'wired' service worked just fine for me. Breakfast in the Admiral Room was terrific and if it's good enough for Sonny and Cher, it's good enough for me.
“Madison Best Hotel”
The service was excellent, it has a restaurant and bar when you can eat and have some drinks. There are some rooms with view of the Monona Lake. The rooms are very comfortable.
“Wonderful old feeling hotel with views of the lake”
It was a wonderful surprise to find a great hotel on the lake and be near everything. The food served was very good. Quiet and old world charm.
“Convenient hotel in WI state capitol”
Arrived at The Edgewater to find we had been upgraded to a suite with partial view of Lake Mendota. Suite was very comfortable with very comfortable bed, adjustable air conditioning, 2 TVs and kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and silverware. Decor was a little dated but who can afford to redecorate these days. We were in Madison for a wedding so it was nice to have an iron and ironing board. Free underground parking was nice also; we were able to get to the car without getting rained upon. Arrived a day early to sightsee, so it was great that the hotel is only 3-4 blocks from capitol building. State Street shopping and dining are within walking distance too. At days end (or any time of the day) relax and enjoy a well-crafted cocktail back at the Edgewater at either The Pier Bar & Cafe or the Cove Lounge.
“Would love to stay here again”
We were very pleased with our stay. The accommodations were excellent, and the location is perfect for visiting the campus and shopping and walking to restaurants. We found the hotel staff extremely helpful. Our room (a junior suite) overlooked the lake. We would love to return to the Edgewater and recommend it highly.
“What a Pleasant surprise”
When we first pulled up...my first thought was not good, however Never judge a book by it's cover. The staff was Awesome and Very accommodating!!! The room was way better than I could have imagined. Beautiful views, quite, clean and even 2 bathrooms....Awesome!!! I Will definitely stay there every time I go to Madison!!! There is Not one bad thing I could say about this place.
