“Relaxing February break”
The hotel was always clean and tidy. The public areas were well organised and of good size. We enjoyed the live music in the Captains Bar and being able to relax in the library or on the balcony of the Bar. We used the pool and jacuzzi which were clean and uncrowded. They helped us to relax tired muscles from walking the levadas. The hotel catered well for my coeliacs disease by providing gluten free food. All in all a friendly and relaxing stay, thank you to all the staff.
“I can't praise this fantastic Hotel highly enough.”
Situated within 2 mins walk of everything, this is a peaceful and beautifully maintained Hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Live music in the bar every evening. Two ring cooker and fridge in the room with all basic equipment to self cater if you wished. Excellent breakfast and bar meals, we didn't eat in the dinning room, as we were still full of breakfast!! Amazing swimming pool and gym.
“Our Holiday Experience in Funchal”
The Hotel was in a good situation with superb ocean view, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Excellent choice for breakfast. The rooms very spacious and comfortable. We had a wonderful time and would certainly go back.
“Great hotel - bad Flights.”
I don't want to write too much about the hotel as I would like to keep it a secret! A lovely hotel in a great location by the old town facing the port area. Having said that, it is not for young people or teenagers. Almost everyone was over 50, lots over 60 and some over 70 (I'm 67). The wonderful thing about the hotel was the standard of service - and it was always quiet, whether at meals or by the pool area. The food (buffet breakfast was extensive and an enormous choice of good quality - probably the best buffet breakfast I've experienced The staff were terrific - efficient, professional and friendly and probably enjoyed serving appreciative and 'well-behaved' older clients - not to say that young people can't be all of these things. The location by the wall of the old town of Funchal was marvellous as 20 metres away were a host of good quality restaurants of all descriptions. We ate out every evening and found a couple of restaurants that were reasonably priced with good friendly service and good varied menu (+ complimentary drinks). Three which stood out were O Tapassol, Le Jardin and 'O Region' (for fish) - all next to each other. O Tapassol was our favourite (eat upstairs). The hotel food menus for lunch and dinner looked great. A fixed 3 course, with several choices, for only 12.50Euros. An extensive buffet dinner for 22Euros and A La Carte dishes. The entertainment was fine and nightly. An Italian Duo from Naples (husband & wife) were great. Perfect for over 50's.
“Perfect base in Madeira”
This was a lovely hotel in an excellent position to enjoy the delights of Madeira. The staff were helpful, the breakfast buffet was excellent. We will stay here again when we next go.
“first rate.”
Great hotel, friendly staff, centrally located on the front and in the old town, handy for everything, great restaurants all around and cable car 2 minutes walk from hotel, all in all a great place, would go back.
“Great location”
The location is brilliant - by the sea yet you can step out of the door straight into the old town. There are 20 bars and restaurants within a short walk. Everything is clean, comfortable and efficient. The staff are great. But it's not a place for beautiful people - it can be a bit like an upmarket old people's home at times. Don't be put off if you are a young couple - you'll still have a great time, but it's not really the place for children and teenagers. There are plenty of sunbeds and a clean pool for cooling off, but not much use for training for the Olympics. Choose a sea view room if you can. They are quieter at night and have a great view of the cruise liners coming and going.
“wonderful hotel in Funchal Old Town”
This hotel is gorgeous throughout with beautiful grounds and is in a fantastic location overlooking the port used by the visiting cruise liners. We had a nice sized room with a hob, sink, utensils and full sized fridge. The balcony did overlook the local park where the local men played cards all day and a homeless man slept with a few stray dogs but we personally found them all entertaining and not particularly noisy. You couldn't hear them with the patio door closed and the air-con doesn't work with the door open anyway. I would suggest paying a bit more for a room with a sea or garden view though. There are many lovely restaurants within minutes walking distance and the cable car too. The buffet breakfast and the spa were both great too. Most of the guests were over 50 and there are no children so the whole stay was sophisticated and very relaxing without being stuffy.
